yeah your right about the oc , but it does pick up the pace. Mask of the betrayer was great!! The thing about NWN2 though, for me at least was all the cool modules people made. There were some that had complete voice acting and did things so out of the norm with custom scrpiting. I loved that aspect of it. So much so that I started making my own. never published though:( Midnightshade29

True, the modules for it are excelent, unfortunantly it took the game two years until we finally started getting some good ones

[QUOTE="ohthemanatee"]

[QUOTE="Midnightshade29"] ME2 is a stripped down rpg lite - shooter type game made specifically for the console crowd. There was no reason they need to take away skill trees and loot. Sorry I like getting loot and building up my characters. As well as an epic story, wasn't me2 also just a bunch of side stories on how they all get together for part3? (haven't' played the game yet, and am still hesitant to do so for the reasons i mentioned)

Kotor 1 and 2 had loot, so did dragons age, there was no reason to abandon that, and take away the stat based combat. Without that you are playing a shooter with dialog...hence why so many rpg haters loved the game on this forum.

Midnightshade29

didn't you create a thread criticizing Mass effect 2 only to discover you hadn't even played the game?

I don't think i ever made a thread about it. Comment about it sure. I still want to play it, but I am still a little mad about the removal of loot. Which is why I am holding off to buy until its on a steam sale and I can get it cheap.

my mistake then

-But black isle is alive as Obsidian :) you are right about Squre though. Some games are just off latley. I did enjoy FF7: Crisis Core and Dissidia a whole lot, but they are nowhere near as good a dev as they were pre enix. Back in the PS1 era square was an unstoppable force that pumped out great AAA game after game for the whole length of the ps1 life cycle.

Bioware for me, so far this generation. Dragon Age: Origins is excellent.

I'll just list my thoughts on them all:

Square Enix: Arent as good as they used to be, so they are no longer the best imo.

Bioware: I thought ME1 was massively overated and i thought KOTOR wouldnt have been considered so great if it wasnt Star Wars, ME2 was great and fixed so many problems with the first game, Dragon Age: Origins is the best Bioware game i have played so far it was excellent so they are very highly regarded by me for it.

Atlus: Make lots of unique games and i really like what they are doing with JRPGs, them publishing Demon's Souls means nothing to me because i imported the game from Asia ages before the US release.

Bethesda: There games are quite good but there latest games i have played have been horribly buggy which really ruins the experiance.

Since there is no Black Isle or Troika on the poll and I don´t like to vote "other",I´ll cast my vote on Bioware.

and for Atlus they made GOY

Yandere

I see you haven't looked into how publishers and developers are two different things.

Also I have no favorite, different (good) RPG developers are good for different reasons.

Atlus does develop games. They develop the Persona, SMT, and Trauma titles. As for me I'll go with Bioware, black isle (..I mean Obsidian lol), Atlus (when they do develop games), Troika, Square-Soft (mainly Production team 4)

AHH...someone else like me who loves Black Isle and Troika games... Hopefully Obsidian can make the magic happen (as they are basically those 2 companies combined) with Alpha Protocol and Fallout new vegas.

He was talking about last years GOTY, and last years GOTY was Demon's Souls.

Bioware for CONSISTENCY

They may not have the best resume, but right now Bioware has been consistently releasing hits for the past decade.

Jade Empire was one of Bioware's best titles. If anything Never Winter's Night would be the "dud".

Indeed,I´ve been keeping my eye on AP for some time now,I sure hope they deliver us a great game. As for FNV,I hope they change the core of the game a bit, because although Bethesda did a good job with F3,I always thougth the game was on a lower level when compared with the old ones.

Yeah, but it doesn´t seem they care about handhelds that much. I don´t think any WRPG developer does.

Handhelds are JRPG territory.

side projects from a few interns? I'm talking the impeccable history Bioware has with console/PC RPG development. they nail the formula of character, immersion, gameplay, and narrative in every single one of their primary IP's.

Handhelds sell better here and I know that they hyped their Sonic Chronicles or whatever and it turned out not so good.

They are amazing console and PC devs but Square Obliterates them in handhelds

Of course they hyped it,I would only be surprised if they didn´t. But,you should also know that Sonic Chronicles wasn´t made by any of the main Bioware development teams(ME/DA teams).Like it was stated before, that was a side project.

Square Enix.... because they have created some of the highest rated RPGs in the history of the universe and to me RPGs are about story telling and they do a great job with that

Jade Empire has an 89 at Metacritic. Really, if 89 is their worst effort, they are practically gods.

I enjoyed Jade Empire quite a lot. It was better than some of their more acclaimed titles.

IMO, they are the best dev out there right now, regardless of genre.

Bioware is currently the best.

I use to love Squaresoft but they are getting awful at making RPGs. Some of their new games are ok but, when they drop buckets of money to make a game you would think it be at least be a great game. How can you mess up when you have a gigantic budget? Seriously, they made incredible games in the past and are swimming in money. They should be making better games now then they ever did. Instead it's the other way around.

Have to go with Bioware. Only they would release two uber-games within 60 days of each other (DA:O and ME2) and have both do so well in sales.

Between Square and Atlus (From Software) for me. Demon's Souls is amazing.
