To be honest, rpg's are my favorite. I didn't believe the 360 would get any jrpgs, but I was wrong. I cannot lie, I have been EXTREMELY impressed with the games on 360. I hate most western rpg's, but with amazing games, the 360 has brought me into some of the western rpg games.
The 360 surprisingly is doing well with rpg's. However, I am getting a ps3 just for FF13, so it better be like FF10 or 7 quality.
Anyways, 360 ftw! utnil FF13, lol.
and if it is multplat, then I just saved big money!
360 but neither is really any good. Microsoft buying up a few decent generic ones isn't that big a deal. FFXIII is the only hope for like a real "next-gen" JRPG anyways. So far it's just been prettier versions of the same ancient stale gameplay format.Lazy_Boy88
Yeah like Mass Effect, that game wasn't original and sucked big time.
I don't think that the system for FFXIII and FFversusXIII are in question anymore, PS3 will be home for both, and it's unlikely they will be multiplatform.
PS3's biggest enemy in the RPG genre is the PS2 really. Some of it's developers (Atlus I'm looking at you) see no need to move on to the PS3 since the PS2 still provides them with a core fanbase that they target.

yea Lost Odessy was really generic .

Have you played it? Its an old school RPG. Its the "been there done that" RPG.
I love those kinds of JRPGs though :)

yes im playing it right now. im almost done with disc 3. it has old school mechanics, but enjoyable. i find the story and the characters intriguing. I thought they did a nice job with how the gave each characters a personality and arent as generic like some jrpg games out there. Imo they really did a nice job with Kaim, Tolten, and Jansen.
The 360 has the best RPG line-up so far but that not saying much since neither The PS3 or Wii have gotten many yet. I believe more Japanese developers will switch back to the PS3 soon when it's userbase increases just abit more. The 360's JRPG's are pretty much 2nd class throw back RPG's except for Infinite Undiscovery which looks like it has great potential. The PS3 on the other hand has the 2nd biggest series Final Fantasy with games like White Knight Chronicles & Disgaea 3. The Wii is definitely going to get it's fair share also.
I expect this gen to look like this:
JRPG - 1st - PS3, 2nd - Wii, 3rd - 360.
WRPG - 1st - 360. 2nd - PS3, 3rd - Wii.
The thing that the PS3 has going for it in the JRPG department is that it's a Japanese console, so it will have Japanese support, as will the Wii. Still there is no clear winner this generation (so far). You need a Ps3, Xbox 360, Wii, NDS, and PSP (do not forget the handhelds) to get the full effect of the JRPGs. And you really need a PC as well if your counting WRPGs.
Raw deal in my opinion.

I LOVE Lost Odyssey so far, it reminds me of FF7-FFX...you know when Final Fantasy kicked @$$.
Speaking of anticpation, what the hell happened to The Last Reminant? Anyone hear anything from Square on this?
Disgaea 3 and Valkyria Chronicles are coming out this year for ps3, so that should be a start. Hopefully White Knight, FFXIII and FFVersusXIII all get released next year and not 2010. slapdash_monkey
I agree, Disgea 3 & Valkyria Chronicles are great titles... However am more interested about White Knight, hope it ends up being a great title... FF XIII, have no doubts its gonna be a great rpg...
arg! :x im so on the fence on which system to buy. seems like ps3 is going to have some great future titles, and then theres xbox360 which have both current and future titles that seem to be appealing. might just have to buy both, xbox360 now, ps3 later when ff13 comes out, but i cant' really afford both.
anyways, i'm dying to play assassin's creed. got a taste for it with my low end computer, which cant really play it, and decided to go ahead and bite the bullet to buy one of the new console systems since its cheaper than buying a new computer. i generally buy a system based on the rpgs, but i'm a huge fan of the fantasy genre, including sword play, etc. so i dont just limit to rpgs. sometimes i buy actions. based on this, what system would you guys suggest?
360 is definately the best atm as it has Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata, with Mass Effect DLC and 2-3, maybe more Lost Odysseys, Fable 2 and Too Human
PS3 has FF

I don't want to sound like a salesman, but if you like RPGs and the FF series, get the 360 because Lost Odyssey is a GEM and plays a lot like FFX. LO is the -real- FFXII I like to say.

Disgaea is already out and it's great.
Wait..you can't read and write Japanese? :|
[QUOTE="fenwickhotmail"]Leaving out a few for the PS3 aren't we? why change the sig man. go back to WKC.360 is definately the best atm as it has Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata, with Mass Effect DLC and 2-3, maybe more Lost Odysseys, Fable 2 and Too Human

If you only mean JRPGs, then right now it would be the 360, considering the ps3 only has one (very very mediocre) JRPG released in the US that's also on the 360. However, a few very major JRPGs are gonna be ps3 exclusive such as Star Ocean 4 (actually, we don't know on this one, but we at least know it's coming for the ps3, just not sure about the 360), White Knight Chronicles and by far the two biggest JRPGs on the horizon: Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII (DQIX will be as big, but it's a handheld game...dammit!).
Many of the 3rd party JRPGs will probably eventually be ported to the ps3 from the 360 such as Eternal Sonata and (not confirmed) eventually Tales of Vesparia. The reason is because JRPGs, obviously, sell better in Japan, and the 360 is barely existent there, while Sony and Nintendo are quite big. It's not likely to be the other way around, though, in terms of porting from ps3 to 360.
FFXIII will remain a ps3 exclusive. Not because I think the game couldn't be done on the 360, but because the engine was designed specifically for the ps3, so I have huge doubts they would spend all the effort to completely redo the game when it may not even sell well if ported.
If you are referring to WRPGs, well, then it's probably very slightly in the 360's favor. The vast majority of them (ie., Fallout 3, Oblivion, etc.) are multiplatform. Really the only one I can think of off the top of my head that one system has and the other don't is Mass Effect (and 360 will have it's sequels as well).

I also think that Atlus should have confirmed Persona 4 for the PS3 IMO.
Would have been a nice addition to the non existant list of PS3 RPGs.
Even though its still the beginning of the gen for the PS3 and Wii and neither has really showed what thye can do in the RPG area.
Developers have had more time to work with the 360 hence why they are releasing numbers of RPGs for the 360.( Namco Bandai im looking at you.)
And Final Fantasy is staying with the PS3.
[QUOTE="Ibacai"][QUOTE="fenwickhotmail"]Leaving out a few for the PS3 aren't we? why change the sig man. go back to WKC. Because I'm pumped for Warhammer. :D Besides, my Brother made this one for me. WHat RPG's are you talking about? the ps3 has NO RPG's yet. And the 360 RPG's are really good, thanks to bethesda and bio-ware WRPG's are just amazing now. And now thanks to Mistwalker, the 360 has some good JRPG's too. Lost Odyssey is just simply fantastic, I mean who cares if its turn-based, last time I checked it didn't change the opinion of gamers back when FF10 was released, yet FPS games are still rated high and offer no innovation whatsoever in terms of gameplay.animefreeze
I mean, sure there's only two worth mentioning, but they're both good.

lol folklore... and Oblivion was WAY to late on the ps3 it sold hardly anything.
Ok, being that I am a huge RPG fan and usually at least try to play EVERYTHING that even resembles an RPG I have been working on a list of RPG games I can expect or am currently shopping for/own on both systems.
Please take in mind that this list is a work in progress. Also, many games are truly difficult to say if they will end up being multiplatform before they are on a shelf. In this list I will put all that I have found "SO FAR". Mind you I am constantly updating it as I find out either that a game has gone multi-plat or was cancelled, etc.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND! This list was not written based on what you personally count as an "RPG". It is based on the publishers and includes all genres of RPGs. Also, if I forgot any no need to flame me. Just let me know,I will confirm and add.
