What a change from last gen,
PS2 got tons of RPG's I still have a bunch to get through even to this day, where Xbox offered me some interesting titles but to where near the level that my PS2 had.
This generation, while Enchanted Arms and Oblivion are nice. The reality is I had pretty well played them both on the 360 before they came out on PS3. LO, Mass Effect, Eternal Sonata, even Blue Dragon while the pickings are still far in between are solid and much to my surprise the 360 has become my go to console for RPG's
FF13 will kill any 360 games, hell white knight chrinicles also. these games will have huge production values and wont be released till thier finished unlike, microsofts mistwalkers games.PS3Breeder
What a surprise....
"Just Wait"
Should be the official PS3 slogan.
FF 13 will be PS3 exclusive.
Right now its 360 hands down. Mass Effect, Eternal Sonota(exclusive in NA and Europe) Lost Odyssey, and Oblivion
PS3 is Oblivion and Folklore....you could import Eternal Sonota
Later this year 360 has Fable 2, Tales of Vesperia, Infinite Undiscoverey, Too Human(Action RPG, but it might end up more action than RPG) and ofcourse the multiplats
PS3 this year is Disgea, Valkrie, The Agency(MMO) and WHite Knight Story
Next year its more or less the same
PS3 does have FInal Fantasy 13, Versus 13, and stuff that isn't announced
360 has Cry On( mistwalker RPG), and Champions Online(MMO, made by the City of Heroes guys :) )
Right now the rpgs are 360 but thats not saying anything.
Later it could be more comparable....right now neither side is showing a giant gap from each other. 360 is the current leader, but its not really a ton of games as much as just 3 good exclusives(360 vs PS3, i kow Mass Effect isn't exclusive)
I'll be honest, there are many who love Japaneese RPGs, but I personally don't think they're very much fun. I just don't like turn-based action, although the quasi-turn-based action from the KOTOR series was pretty fun. I am a huge fan of the WRPG or action RPG, such as Mass Effect and Oblivion, so take that into account as you read this post.
Obviously, Oblivion was multi-platform, but most indications are that it is slightly better on the PS3, and now that it has all of the DLC that the 360 version has, it's a plus for the PS3. I will say that I have the 360 version and it is still fantastic. Mass Effect is not available on the PS3, and despite being a somewhat flawed title, it is an absolutely amazing and fun game to play. Plus going to the 360 there. Fable for the original XBox had mixed reviews, with some loving it and others hating it (as with most games), but a great many gamers agree with me that it was a fantastic game and we expect the second one to deliver on the shortcomings of the first. Net plus going to the 360. Even so, with the consoles being out for a couple of years, I'm still waiting for that next great game that will be a time-drainer for me. Nothing has addicted me on the level of Oblivion, so I really would conclude that for both systems, there is a need for more good WRPGs. Again, I will leave the comments on JRPGs to those who enjoy playing them.
I must also admit that since I do not own a PS3, I don't pay too much attention to the goings on with that console, so take my comments for what you will. Since my wife and I finally decided to plunk down the funds for HD, however, the blu-ray capable PS3 has become a far more compelling option than before, so maybe I'll pay a little more attention in the future.

Even looking at the 360's list... are some of those games really categorized as RPG's here in gamespot?...
In any case, Persona 4 is not coming to the PS3; it is instead coming to the PS2. But I don't see why people wouldn't count it in, in a sense, that's what backwards compatability is for. Well at least for those that have it on the PS3.
Haven't really heard much on Suikoden and it won't be the third one :P. Also, you should put Valkyria Chronicles in there.

I own both versions of Oblivion, and the PS3 version only has Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine. All the other official mods are not there, which is why imo the 360 version is still superior. I'd pick Dunbarrow Cove and Wizards Tower over some small, hardly noticable graphical features any day.
i've been waiting awhile to see how the two systems were going to pan out and have a clear winner. seems like xbox360 might be coming out on top in this genre. still, wonder which system final fantasy 13 is going to come out in. might be both consoles. regardless, what do you guys think?lonewolf_kai
I think very few people care anymore where FF13 will come, in the unspecified year of its release, which could be any of 2009-2010 or even 2011
Xbox 360 is the only machine that actually does have RPG's, and a real avalance of them, PS3 has none, so it is like comparing infinite with zero in RPG's
[QUOTE="Lazy_Boy88"]360 but neither is really any good. Microsoft buying up a few decent generic ones isn't that big a deal. FFXIII is the only hope for like a real "next-gen" JRPG anyways. So far it's just been prettier versions of the same ancient stale gameplay format.g-rash
Yeah like Mass Effect, that game wasn't original and sucked big time.
