The recent article on Gamespot about RROD had a lot of interesting points. I, for one, didn't know that Microsoft quit making 360s for a few months to try and fix the issue.

Enough about the article though. What I want to know is what you guys think RROD's effect on the lauch of the next xbox will be?

I would think that Microsoft will make absolutely sure that there next machine will be up to normal failure rates at the very least. But do you think that consumers will want to take the chance again. It would certainly be reasonable for an early adopter of the 360 to be inclined to wait out the launch just to make sure everything checks out.

I, personally, would never recommend purchasing a console at launch for a variety of reasons. It simply isn't a good value for what you get at the time. But what are y'all's thoughts?

The RROD has damaged MS reputation. I for one will wait for at least a year before purchasing another MS console.

I think they have learnt their lesson. They would be insane to not have. The 360 would have been a much more profitable and successful console had they just made it reliable in the first place. To do that again would be.. dumb.

So no I wouldn't hold back for that reason, I would hold back cause I simply don't think its worth getting a console straight away. (the games usually arn't there to justify it)

If they did learn their lesson, I wouldn't expect another Xbox until at least 2013.

Why would you think that? Doesn't take 8 years to develop new tech.

So you wouldn't buy the next xbox because of Microsoft's disregard for its customers? Out of principle?

No, but it takes planning and careful consideration before making a console. The 360 had none of that. Even before the system was launched a MS engineer said the 360 had some considerable problems. I read that in a recent article here on Gamespot. What kind of company releases a product that they KNEW was defective? It's stupid. The 360 is doing fine in the software department, but the hardware was a failure even before the console launched.

Most likely if anything, the next Xbox would be the most reliable console ever made because of the RROD.

I say it like that because while I make no bones about Microsoft's offense in how it handled the whole situation, it wouldn't cause me to boycott the company because of that. Simply put, when it comes to my entertainment purchases, I don't have many principles. You can make a case against any of the big three being malicious to its customers. they all are. I would simply look at buying the xbox as a value proposition. If it has games that i want badly enough for the money, then Microsoft's dickiness isn't getting in the way of that.

The RROD has caused M$ over a billion in losses. The Next Xbox will launch with a near industructable body. You can be sure of it.

Every company makes mistakes, and MS probably has learned it's lesson. While I feel the RRoD was blown out of preportion, I usually wait until the hype has died down a little before buying the next one.

I'll buy the next XBOX.... but not on or near launch..... I'll wait 5-6 months (if I can control myself) and see if there are grumblings about a high rate of defective hardware.

My reason for not purchasing an Xbox 360 or a future Xbox is not because of the RROD. I've played plenty of games on the Xbox 360 at my friend's house and it's always been a blast! It's simply because I can't afford to own 2 consoles. I grew up with Playstation when I was 13 & have been for these past 10 years. There are great series of games that are continuing on the PS that I love and adore. Maybe down the road when I graduate and make sufficient money I shall get the "next generation" Xbox. Till then I say "Adieu to the Xbox."

I agree with this. One side of me says they probably learned their lesson by now. but on the other hand, it's still a 400$+ piece of equipment..

I think I "jumped in" a bit too early this gen (had RRoD twice) . It wasn't really a hassle imo but I rather don't have in the first place.

im pretty sure its not going to happen again because not only set gamers back when it broke,...it set themselves back.
