The Nvidia 7800s were known for failure due to heat issues, eventually they were replaced with the 7900s which performed better and operated cooler. One day my 7800GT died and I sent it back for warranty replacement, since the 7800 line was discontinued they upgraded me to a 7900GT.

After a little under three years of using my 360 I just got a new one free of charge from MS because of the RROD. It has the updated HDMI port. Why are people compaining about this issue. Who would no want a new console after three years free of charge?

Well my PS3 was freezing when playing GTA4, so I called sony. My PS3 was out of warranty (Had if for over a year) and they replaced it free of charge. Best part was I shipped it out on Monday and I got a brand new 60gb PS3 back on Thursday. Can't beat a 4 day turn around...

My brothers PS3 is currently suffering from HDD failure, I'd take it back for replacement but it is one of the discontinued backwards compatibility models.

Any idea what gets done about that?

they will replace it with whatever you already have. If you have a 60gb, they will send you back a new or refub 60gb. Have you thought about just upgrading the HDD yourself?

As far as I know, you wouldnt want a brand new one, you would want to one that is more durable, and less chance of getting RROD.

I think ud be better off getting a refurbished one cause they have actually fixed that console. Instead of a brand new one you never know if its gonna die on you again. Oh well. It must be great you got a brand new one.

Yes, it says that in the thread title but then he says this in the actual post:

He actually is saying no one should be complaining about the issue........and yes that means ALL USERS. Also he got it wrong, if his console is actually 3 or more years old they will not replace it free of charge. As he said, his was just under three years which is why he was lucky......also he was lucky that it was just the RRoD that broke. I didn't get RRoD with the 360 I was using so they wanted me to pay $100 to fix it.

How can they replace it if they have stopped making it?

Being a PC gamer replacing the HDD was my first thought, it would be more convenient than shipping it off, but console components handle warranty's differently than PC.

The entire console is under warranty while on PC the individual components each have their own warranty. If I replace the drive will it still have its warranty? Plus if the PS3 itself suffers problems in the future, how do you get it replaced when you have a custom HDD? Remove the drive then send it back? Put the old one back in?

If all of this isn't a problem, can you use any laptop drive or are there specific requirements?

Disclaimer: I'm not really a 360 hater, I just can't let an open goal like this pass me by. I'm sorry:

RROD is the best thing that can happen 360 owners... because then they won't have to play its crappy exclusives and inferior multiplats!!

360 has the worst HDD setup, forced to use Microsoft specific HDDs and they are all overpriced.
