Some forum members are saying RROD was finally fixed. I have yet to see any evidence of it. I'm making this thread to see if we can actually get some real numbers on the problem. What percentage of them are RRODing? Did they actually fix it or is it just a rumor? If you have some kind of actual evidence to back it up, please show it. I'd like to see it.

PS: Amount of threads from someone saying their console RRODed wouldn't be evidence as those have been banned.

I'm with you man. I want to see evidence too. I personally don't think they plan on fixing it; Hence the $200 arcade.

As much as I would like to see evidence, I don't know that the creation of the arcade version had too much to do with RROD. I think it was more a matter of greater market capitalization. If you have a cheap version on the market you can appeal to a wider audience.

Well, I got E74 inNovember 2008 and I know of some reputable XBOX users like IRONBASS got E74 just this last April.

I seem to have an issue EVERY Xmas.

November 2006 = RROD

OCT 2007 = RROD

NOV 2008 = E74

It hasn't been a full year since my new Xbox with new chips, but I got E74 with the new chips, so we'll see.

If anything we should go by what MS is NOT saying about RROD. If there was a significant drop you can bet that MS would make a huge official announcement about it.

here are still around 15 million 360s out there with the inherent design flaw.

It's still a problem.

I'm glad to hear your 360 is running well, but that doesn't mean the problem is fixed. PS: Have you had a previous 360 RROD on you?

I read somewhere that there was a new chip i n360s that lowered its chance of happening to like 5-10%, dont ask for a link though this is all based off of memory.

the lack of news about it might also mean there's not much of a problem. people complain when it breaks but don't make a big deal out of something that works fine.

Or it means people are getting used to RRoDs and complaining any more wont be useful :P .

As far as Im concerned, the RROD is still within the 30% range so anyone like me will be on the fence about getting a 360 unless MS releases an official statement. Of course If there are not a lot of people who are NOT aware of RROD then I guess it would make sense whythey are so quiet.

Wow. That's hardcore. I wouldn't buy a new PS3 or Xbox 360 if my current one broke down unless it was obviously due to something stupid I did. (ex: dropping it down a flight of stairs)

This is one of the strange things about games journalism that makes it different from others and makes a lot of people say it isn't journalism. Where's the investigative journalism? I watched a video online of people in the industry talking about the issue and mentioning that not much was said about the RROD issue because you don't want to developers/publishers to stop giving you info on their upcoming games because you're putting out bad press for them.

I don't think it has been "fixed" yet but it's definitely nowhere near as big of a problem as it used to be.

That's what I meant by the $200 arcade....Some people will buy that while their other 360 is out for warranty. Then, they have a backup to use once the other one comes back.

I believe that launch 360's had a fail rate of nearly 30%. However, each revision of the 360 (Zephyr - New Heatsink, Falcon - CPU Die Shrink, Jasper - GPU Die Shrink) has lowered the RROD chances of the 360. Current Jasper chipsets are said to reduce the chances of RROD for 360's to the lowest levels. My original launch 360 RROD after 1 year. My friend bought a Zephyr 360 two years ago and it still works fine and now I have a Falcon 360 that has been working great for the past year as well. I'm probably going to end up swapping my 360 for a Jasper one before my replacement plan with Best Buy expires though.

IIRC, the new chip lowers RROD but theres a new thing thats just as bad, called E74 with 1 red light instead of 3.

it doesn't matter. My 360 broke earlier this year (it was from june 2006) and it only took 9 days to get it back fully working. Is NINE DAYS really that big of an issue on something that COULD happen? (RROD)

How you believe that is beyond me. Most Xbox games are NOT on the PC, If that were the case, that would also mean most PS3 games are on the PC, as they only have about 40 games, out of 1000 difference.

I tend to notice that a lot of the games listed as Xbox 360 exclusives are also on the PC. Hell, most of Xbox 360's big games at E3 this year were also on the PC. It may be just the games that appeal to me, but it seems like most of the time I see a game for the 360 that appeals to me, it's also on the PC. Of course, it might be worth mentioning I couldn't possibly care less about racing and fighting games.

I'm guessing it's still around, but about the time people learn it's still around they will release another version of the 360 and people will think it's fixed again.

Well considering that the fail rate was around 30% for launch 360's then there is still a 70% chance that your's won't RROD.

If anything we should go by what MS is NOT saying about RROD. If there was a significant drop you can bet that MS would make a huge official announcement about it.

emorainbo

the lack of news about it might also mean there's not much of a problem. people complain when it breaks but don't make a big deal out of something that works fine.

As far as Im concerned, the RROD is still within the 30% range so anyone like me will be on the fence about getting a 360 unless MS releases an official statement. Of course If there are not a lot of people who are NOT aware of RROD then I guess it would make sense whythey are so quiet.

Well it'snot 30% on the newer models. The falcon was lower and the Jasper is apparently significantly lower than that. There are still a lot of refurb xenons and zephyrs out there which still fail which is a big part of the problem.

lol yeah I know what you mean, I could never part with my 360 either :P

why dont you just ship it to the US?

trakem

That will cost more than new one xD guess i will go with Arcade version and use my old HDDs at least arcade is very cheap.

You know, you could just get a gaming PC. Most of your Xbox 360 games have a PC version.

must this myth be perpetuated?

I see some Xbox 360 fans saying that this is true, but is there any evidence of it? Where is this info actually coming from?

The Jasper motherboard did indeed fix the problem. Although, my launch 360 worked great until it was stolen last year.

here are still around 15 million 360s out there with the inherent design flaw.

It's still a problem.

I hear some 360 fans saying it was fixed, but I have never seen any evidence of it. Could you please tell me where this info is coming from or is it just a rumor?

So far all that I have seen is numbers and info coming from nowhere. I agree with you that those numbers are as yet unsubstantiated.

ALL of the chips are smaller now, so they can't overheat. Look it up.
