Ive only had to get my 360 serviced four times since Ive owned it. Sure its a hassle but MS pays for shipping. Other companies charge you shipping. And it only takes like 2 weeks for them to send you out a new one. My most recent RROD took a week tops. So no biggie. Its hardware failure. No electronic device is perfect.

Ill take the free repairs for an unbeatable library. Need I mention the titles?

You know what guys, the TC's right. I can't say I jumped for joy when my 360 poo pooed on me, it was the total opposite of course because I was a noob to the RROD and didn't know how the process went but surprisingly it was a very easy and smooth transaction.

Just had to go over to their website, xbox.com under the customer service section fill out a little forum and I was done and ready to recieve my shipping label in just a couple of days. The entire process took about 3 weeks, and I got it back I recieved a3 month card for XBL so it's not like XBL was taken away from me for a whole month.

All in all not too shabby :)

It shouldn't have been an issue in the first place. That being said, my 360 stopped reading discs and that is not under warranty as it is 2 1/2 years old but, I reported it is a RROD and they simply replaced it for a newer one for me for free. I dont even think they check them anymore...lol. So it can be an advantage.

While I don't agree, the RROD is bad, but at least Microsoft acknowledged it. I had to send both of mine off, which one was my kids, and recieved them both back promptly. I had mine switched outfor a cooler(supposedly) HDMIversion, and I will not run either of them withoutthe intercoolers running. So I really wouldn't be to happy if they fellvictim to the RROD again,so I'm crossing my fingers on that one. I also think that the whole redesign of the 360 was mainly due to the RROD, and it's ventilation problems. No one likes to have the greatest library of games at your disposal, but no system to play them on, or having to wait to get your machine back.

M$ customer service is good, rod is bad. There is no reason to try to butter it up. People paid for a device to do a particular thing, and the 360 does not do it on a consistent basis and is nowhere near the electronics industries 3% or lower failure rate acceptance. Anyone who says it's not bad is basically spitting in the face of people who paid their hard earned money to play games and got such an undependable machine that they have to continuously send it back.

when a system breaks 4 times in less than 5 years, you probably shouldnt use the word "only" before it... anyway, there's simply no excuse to have a console that unreliable. it's an insult to all of their customers

Lemmings are part of the problem. The RRoD shouldn't be there in the first place....or at least, not to the scale and frequency of it, and in an attempt to console themselves or remain in denial of how bad the problem is, lemmings tell themselves it's okay, and Microsoft is doing a good job. Don't you guys see, it's because this problem is soooo bad that it would almost lead to a lawsuit up Microsoft's pants, that they are doing they're very best to keep you guys happy. You should be content with the replacement service so as to not sue them, but that doesn't make the RRoD acceptable.

Exactly what is he misinformed or has over-riding issues about? He stated very clearly what his reason is. RROD happens because of poor design. Microsoft designed it (poorly). Why can't he hate Microsoft for it? Are you on M$'s payroll or something?

My thoughts exactly. At the rate which 360s fail due to RRoD, there can be no excuse for not picking up the problem during testing, which leads me to believe one of two of the following things happen:

1. Microsoft were rushing out the 360 and didn't even test it properly

2. Microsoft tested it and found the problem, but went ahead with the launch anyway

In either case, it's unforgivable. And it's a good reason to hate Microsoft for it. I know i do.

I've had an SNES for 15 years and it never broke. But that's like comparing an old Volkswagen Beetle to any of the comtemporary cars. Of course the price we pay for advancement in technology is a higher failure rate, but with limitations of course.

Yes it is! If mine broke down that many times I think it would be hard for me to stay loyal to that brand! Thats like having a certain type of car, then it breaks down on you repeatedly, and when the next model comes out, you are right in line ?? I'm satisfied with the service I recieved on my 360s, but I hope the RROD experiences with me are over!

Seriously??? An issue that a majority of owners experience is not that bad because MS takes care of it? Since I do mobile electronic installations for a living so hows this: My installs of alarms causes electrical problems for my customers vehicles. But its okay because they can bring it back every couple months as long as we check it out and make sure its functional? First it shouldnt even happen at that high a rate and MS HAS to remedy the situation. If they could get away with not taking care of the rrod owners, I bet you anything MS would ride that wave.

Its a problem that shouldnt exist, no way around it. And from stuff ive been hearing, MS could have prevented it and they knew full well about it before launch, but they decided to ship anyway to get ahead of the competition.

And users on the ps3 board at this site took a poll, and over 50% of the original launch PS3s have died. I've had 2 die on me, in fact. So let's not make it out to be a problem unique to one of the consoles. And the PS2... remember the disc read error? I sure do. Did I have a 360 break? Yes. But my wii died after 8 months and I'm on my 3rd PS3. Stop beating up on Microsoft. All hardware breaks.

it's a problem for some, it isn't a problem for others, but it isn't a good thing, not by any means, personally i don't have a problem with it cos i don't have to pay out extra cash, as long as i am not forking out extra cash i'm good with it, but lets not fluff it up, MS where very naughty to release a console with a major design flaw, very naughty indeed.

jammy, you have the luck of the irish mate, i am OCD about keeping my hardware clean (twice a week for the 360 ) and i have rigged up an extra set of 360 stock fans running at 12v, sitting against the back, to beef up the cooling,i have still had 2 RROD's and one suspected.

Knocking on wood right now.

TBH I wish my 2006 console RRoD instead of some isolated CPU problem because MS charged me 90 bucks I think - kinda really umm, peeved me off. :?

Same, got a Gamecube back in 2002 and thats still working fine, wish i could say the same for the reliability of PS2's.. On topic, while it is good that microsoft repairs them for free its a repair that should never have to take place. Your 360 'only' broke 4 times? Considering the 360's only been around for 5 years thats quite alot

I'm actually kind of the anti-thesis to the 360's shoddy hardware being a bad thing. Microsoft had some sort of super-support during the early days that just gave stuff away. Whenever my 360 broke they immediately sent me a new one, before I had even sent mine in. Got the whole package with hard drive, controller etc. And two games. And they swapped out a scratched third party one, someone at Microsoft actually went to a store and bought the game. Got a hand written apology when a shipment was delayed. It was absolutely crazy. And hardly the standard experience.

IIRC I've had four (five?) 360's break down on me. That would add up to two months, give or take. The last lemoning occurred after the warranty had run out. And whatcha gonna do at that point? Was already invested, so I went and bought a Jasper Arcade. And there are people out there who have had it much worse than me.

Maybe if you bought your first 360 relatively recently or have been lucky it's not that bad. But don't try and spin it into being a universal un-biggie.

LOL, "No electronic device is perfect" you say! I think the 360 is the console to fail the most ever made. Seriously it is a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE piece of hardware and there is no defending it. You should not have to send a system in every half a year for a couple weeks. People love to make excuses for it, but if it were ANYTHING else they would not buy it. I like how people make up the rules as they go. It is a bad bad piece of hardware, get over it.

Oh and yes you do need to name the games ;). Seriously it hardly has any great games that are exclusive. A few. I will give it that.

I came to say this. I've put off buying Win7 because I can't stand them for selling me a terrible console. I wish there was a law regulating seriously defective hardware. They should've taken the extra year like Sony did to make a quality product. Inexcusable...

The repair is free though, my friends PS3 BD drive went out and he had to shell out $150 to fix it. (I'm not even joking, his FB status a few days ago said it broke again, poor guy). The repair process is excellent too, when mine broke a few years ago, you just go to the Xbox website and register your console. Total process took 2 weeks. Sorry, but I rather have free repairs than having to shell out money.

Hardware problems like RROD shouldnt be around, don't make excuses.

Yes its very unfortunate that you have to pay $150 to fix your PS3 but the chances of it happening arent as big as the RROD. They are both free under warranty though. Still both the 360 and the PS3 have a hefty price to repair when you get a hardware failure out of warranty it's about 100 to 120 to repair the 360. Personally I'd just rather have no hardware failures at all.
