Surprised by the amount of people saying NX shouldn't get ports, but rather be backwards compatible with Wii U. (despite how many of them probably ate up the PS2/3 ports released on PS4.)

I mean, I get it in theory, but it wouldn't be practical. For starters it would mean Nintendo would be releasing a console that would need to be compatible with a horde of different controllers and accessories (Gamepad, Wii U Pro Controller, Nunchuck, Wii Remote, Wii Classic Controller, Wii/U Balance Board, GameCube), before even thinking about it's own controllers and accessories that might be added down the road.

Remember, the initial confusion for Wii U, is that people thought it was just an add-on for Wii, and that was partly caused by the fact they kept showing off Wii remotes been used in gameplay. They can't keep bringing controllers forward if they don't want to cause confusion.

Then theirs the Gamepad, that thing isn't cheap to produce, and if Nintendo wanted to offer Wii U BC, they'd need to produce more Gamepads, to sell individually. I really don't see that been something Nintendo would be interested in doing just for BC, and also not something people would buy just to play a handful of Wii U games on their NX.

New titles not rehash of Wii U ones. eg. Bayonetta 3 NOT Bayonetta 2 HD or Ultimate or Definitive edition. :P

I doubt the controller will have a screen in it. That gimmick already failed, so why would they do that again?

Backwards compatibility or bust.

Full backwards compatibility means that they'd need to use the now 17-year-old CPU cores in Wii U yet again.

How is the WiiU hardware 17 years old? Its CPU cores are based on Wii, which was based on GC. That doesnt make it 17 years old. Its newer hardware evolving off the same PPC tech.

Even the best new CPU's offered by Intel/AMD still use x86 tech. Does that make them 37 years old? Nope

Just curious, is this true or matter even if the game is digital?

Anyway, I would want Splatoon, Mario Maker, Bayonetta 2....

I have no problem with remasters, and hope Nintendo does several of the Wii-U games for NX, but having 4 at launch seems weaksauce. Too much at once. Not sure that is a believable rumor anyway.

I would like to see Metroid Prime Trilogy remaster though, Mario Galazy 1&2 remaster, don't really care much for Wii-U games... but I wouldn't complain if they added Splatoon and Bayonetta 1&2, as well as downloadable versions of the Zelda games that they already remastered for Wii-U (i.e. make them available on NX as well).

I wish there will be no Wii U games on NX at all , but if it is true then I would go with :

1- LoZ U (OBVIOUSLY)

2- Pikmin 4

3- Bayonetta 2 (deserves a much more audience than it has)

4- Xenoblade Chronicles X

I know where you're coming from, but you're wrong. The cores aren't simply based on Gecko; it is literally the exact same architecture with no major changes beyond what was needed to increase clock speeds and add more cores (and Wii was literally nothing more than an overclock and a die shrink). It's not an evolution of the architecture in any way, shape, or form.

The only ones I'll be okay with:

  1. Zelda Wii U/NX port. No explanation needed.
  2. Mario Maker: This game was made to be built upon over time with DLC, not sequels. Keep it alive on NX.
  3. Smash Bros Wii U. This one I might be okay with if they intend on making Smash 4 a platform to dev on similar to Mario Maker (rather than making a sequel).

Otherwise, I just want new games/sequels, not ports.

Making it digital doesn't change anything. It would still be the exact same game.

@nintendoboy16: Dido, holy shit that's a blast of nostalgia.

I'd be happy with Pikmin 4 and Zelda at launch.

These games must be played by all:

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze should be there simply for being a masterclass game in every aspect imaginable.

Pikmin 3 with all its genius DLC stages

Smash Bros should come out as a complete package as well.

Bayonetta 2

Other than your questionable choice for Pikmin I would say that with your other three picks you demonstrate to be a person with an excellent taste, specially when it comes to choosing Donkey Kong ( my personal absolute most favorite Nintendo character, Mario ---> bite me )

According to the rumor its:

  • Smash
  • Zelda U
  • Mario Maker
  • Splatoon

But Splatoon and Mario Maker are maybes at this point because they want it to be connected to the Wii U version and they are having difficulty with that

Whether one likes it or not, B.C. has been a strength for Nintendo consoles (home and hand) utilizing such a thing. There are Wii U games that do not use the pad in any meaningful way and I'm sure it would be fairly easy to adapt them to a future console not requiring such an expensive peripheral. That could work like the Xbox 360 and how it was B.C. with only certain Xbox games. One thing Nintendo needs to understand is that not every gimmick (game pad, wiimote, Miiverse, etc..,) necessarily needs to be available on future consoles. Something that worked in the past won't automatically work in the future.

I can't see Nintendo launching with more than 2 of their big franchises at launch. I'm sure they'll announce/try more than that, but I just don't see them being able to deliver.

Yeah launch with a bunch of WiiU ports instead of original Games

Not to sound like a Troll(huge Nintendo fan here, see avatar) but Nintendo would be doing the same mistake as the WiiU launch.

They aren't going to port Mario Kart or Smash, they'll want everyone to buy new versions on NX.

Zelda, Xenoblade, Bayonetta 2, and I guess Mario Maker (not my thing but seems like something that can live a long time)

GAF is saying Smash and Zelda are 100% confirmed. Splatoon and Makers are the other two but not confirmed. If that's true than NX is day one for me because Smash is enough only.

If NX is stronger than PS4, then every console gamer should buy multi-platform games on it just to tell both Sony and Microsoft that it isn't ok to put less effort in their exclusives, and depend so heavily on third party.
