This is basically all i have to say.

Original xbox wasn't it called a pc as well?
WilliamRLBaker
Yes but MS never wanted a Keyboard and mouse for that same reason, they wanted the xbox to not be associated with a PC,hell doesn't the xbox run on a modified version of windows.? But MS never made promotions saying that,or even wanted to because they did not want people to see the xbox as a PC.
Now is different is like the want people to know windows is there.
Also been very close to windows 7 or 8,means that pirates will have a ball with it,the original xbox was controlled in every single way because of that, not that the 360 is more difficult to hack, but the OS on the original xbox was far easy to exploit and control.
Not company wars. Either the ten/loop/720 will be assimilated into the umbrella of systems known as "pc," thus doing the same to Lems in SW as hitting the Give Up button in the game Lemmings, and making all their heads explode, OR the Lems will get laughed at all gen by people with sigs of the Metagame results that show 0 AAAAE/0 AAAE/0 AAE/0 AE right up till the end of the gen.[QUOTE="Phazevariance"]
Guess now games will come out on xbox 720 and pc and will be considered one and the same, thus any shared game will be a microsoft exclusive.

so you're saying two systems getting MORE games is a bad thing?
... enjoy your PS3 :|
Nah... not necesarily. But if the whole running on windows 8, with most, if not all the utility/media functionality of a pc, and all 360 games will play on Win8 pcs is true, then for all intents and purposes on SW, either...Sooo... having a version of Windows 8 automatically makes it a PC?
Funny... the Dreamcast ran a modified version of Windows CE. Guess the Dreamcast was actually a gaming PC in disguise.
AcidSoldner
A.) It will basically be a closed platform low-end PC, like Mac, only less expensive, rather than more expensive than a normal PC
B.) It will still be a seperate platform... but will share all it's games with PC, so will have 0 exclusives. Ever.
Either way, for SW purposes, it doesn't seem like a supportable position, without changing the rules to suit it.

No. More people getting games is great... BUT... if a system has no games that can't be found on other systems, why pick that system over something else? Exclusives, even if they are outnumbered by multiplats, define a system and offer a reason to buy THAT system over another. It's totaly possible the next Xbox will be much less technically impressive than the 360 and first Xbox were in their times and instead focus on motion controls.
Its only a rumour.
The average person out there will walk into a store, see that it has a controller, games, gaming online and plugs into the tv...sold. They wouldnt sit there and think about processing power, chips, blu-ray (or red-ray whatever useless lol), how many sony fanboys dont like it (or vice versa in the new Playstations case) - just as long as you can chill on your couch with a mic after a hard weeks graft, and have alaugh playingwith yourmates (or even your wife if your lucky enough to have convertedher like me).
Honastly guys, its not going to be a PC. It may integrate withPCs/networks ect, but the 360/ps3 does that already, and not many people are bothered by it (or have even tried it). It will just turn into another fan boy war, but im sure as mentioned the average people out there with jobs/gfs/wives wont be arsed. All consoles will face in that direction, but they will remain consoles for a reason - because we already have PC's!
Keep smiling :)

I'm sorry when did I enter into lala land?
Genius. Absolutely genius. I never realized that there could be an ulterior motive to their push for ease of development of games. This would be a brilliant move.Human-after-all
I have to agree, if MS pulls this off right they will bridge the gap between PC and Consoles. I would love to have a dedicated PC set-top for my living room that doesn't have to be the size of a piece of furniture.
Xbox's next update will let you use it as a cable box, seems MS's original plan in entering the console race is becoming a reality. They said back then when they built the Xbox that they wanted everyone to have a Microsoft all in one system for your living room entertainment. Something Sony was on the verge of doing with their introduction of PS1 and DVD.
Im not surprised it is more or less going to be a Windows 8 or 7 Phone PC in a special case with Xbox logo on it.
Seems rather pointless to get one. Cause I would just get Windows 8 on my computer and be pretty much the same thing with much stronger hardware.
Given how MS has done bad recently with the 360, ie, no exclusives besides four key franchises, none of which interest me; Ive been buying everything on PS3 lately. Plus Kinect has been out for year and there are still no awesome games for it. So even if it wasnt a glorified PC i most likely still wouldnt be buying the next Xbox. Ive lost my liking for Microsoft.
Well I've got to say..If it's going to act like a PC, and most games will be available on both platforms then I'm just going to go back to PC gaming. Unless the price is really reasonable, and the specs are very good.

Forgot about this thread, till I saw you quoted me in your sig... Awww, I'm flattered. Anyway, I'm not actually saying that at all. Let's say right now, every single 360 game was made playable on PC by a Windows update (note this doesn't necesarily work both ways... They can make all xbox compatible with windows pc, but can't make all pc games work on the xbox, due to varying min sys reqs on pc games). Anyway, say I don't have any system at all, and I want to buy one. PC has pc excusives, plus pc/360/ps3 multis (which now includes all games previously ps3/360 only), plus pc/360 multis (which now includes all games previously 360 exclusive). The only games not on pc would be PS3 exclusives. There's no reason at all to choose 360. You'll go with either a PS3, for the exclusives, or a pc, at least as far as the libraries go. Now let's say you already have a pc, or are getting a pc regardless, and are going to get one console. Its a no brainer, as there aren't any games on the 360 you wouldn't already have access to. If there are no exclusives, there's no reason to get it.But more to the point of what I was talking two posts, regardless of whether it turns out to be great for MS, or even great for people that buy the next box, by the current metagame, the nextbox will fail hard here in SW. We compare AA+ retail exclusives... If every game is playable on pc as well, it will never have a single exclusive, making it the obvious metagame loser, unless the rules of the game are changed to accomodate it... Like when you have to start playing flag football, instead of tackle, to accomodate the one kid who cries when he gets hurt.
As an Xbox 360 owner this is stupid. I rather just buy a nice PC and upgrade it at my leisure. Good thing this is just a rumor.hummer700

so in the end, I'm right
as a consumer you're better off with this system because regardless of what system you choose: you get more games regardless of which system you buy (and if you buy the PC so much the better)
as a the creator of this system you're better off because regardless of what the customer buys: you get a sale
so... again am I in lala land?
P.S. well at least my sig makes sense :)

I admit, I only vaguely paid attention to these rumors... but what I got from it is that 10/loop/720 games (and maybe 360 games via bc?) would all be compatible with win8, and thus playable on pc. That does NOT mean that pc games would all be playable on the ten/loop/720. That's the whole point of what I'm saying... so no, you won't get more games regardless of which system you choose... you get more if you choose pc. If you choose the 720, you don't get any games at all that aren't also on other systems.Going with the current gen, as an example, PC may have more exclusives than 360, but if I prefer the 360 exclusives and ps3/360 multiplats over the pc exclusives, 360 is better. If an update made every 360 game available on pc, that changes... a lot. Now the pc has every game that 360 does, plus all the pc exclusives. There may still be some other reasons for picking it... but as for games, which should always be one of the primary reasons for picking a game system, there would be 0 reason to buy the 720.
Does that still not make any sense? Or maybe I'm wrong... and the rumor is that pc and 720 games will be mutually shared... but I don't see how that could work, unless 720 will have fully scalable hardware, and the games will have varying system reqs... at which point, it is 100% a pc, and shouldn't be considered a seperate platform anymore than Mac is (which was one of the possibilities in my original post).

for the next gen!!,I want harcore games, with big budgets, I dont care if they come in disk or they are in XBL, the only thing I want are new ips with quality.
its in short a pc..

the next XBOX is running a variant of windows 8 or windows phone 7.. in short youve officially been turned into a pc (except alot cruder) how does thou feel xbox faithful??
the next XBXO is rumored to have an ARM based cpu with an ion "like" graphics setup with a gpu designated for non-gaming use and another for games and/or multimedia (if supported). it according to source will also have microsoft silverlight and support for some level of basic networking. in the end however your running an official (possibly purchaseable) windows OS (or a variant thereof). resistance is futile!
