By "iteration" I mean "They made a new logo for it"Only a decade late. What Nintendo games would be good multiplayer games? Mario Kart and its rubberbanding gameplay? Meh. Smash Brother would be cool I guess. F-Zero as well.

More like 16 years to early Satellaview on the SNES (1995),Randnet on the N64DD (1999). Every Nintento home console has had an online component (The NES had an online component as well the Famicom modem but that was only used to check financial services and play the lottery). Randnet was a functioning online service.
The RandNet Starter Kit came packaged with 64DD machines and included everything needed to access the service (the subscription cost was ¥2500 per month; equivalent to about US $27.97):
- Nintendo 64 Modem: The Nexus-developed software modem was housed on a special cartridge that plugs into the N64's cart slot. The Modem Cart has a port to plug in the included modular cable which then connects to the network.
-Expansion Pak: This 4 MB RAM Expansion brings the N64's system RAM to 8 MB. The Expansion Pack was later bundled with Donkey Kong 64 worldwide. It was also sold separately.
-64DD: The writable 64 MB disk drive attachment made network use and data saving possible.
-Randnet Browser Disc: This lets users access the "members only" information exchange page as well as the Internet.
Once logged on to the service, players could choose from the following options:
-Battle Mode: Play against other gamers and swap scores.
-Observation Mode: Watch other players' game sessions.
-Beta Test: Play sample levels from upcoming games.
-Information Exchange: Use online message boards and e-mail with other users.
-Community: Swap messages with the game programmers and producers.
-Internet Surfing: Surf the Internet with the custom web browser.
-Digital Magazine: Check online sports scores, weather, and news.
-Music Distribution: Listen to music, some of which was yet to be released in stores.
-Editing Tool: Create custom avatars to interact with other users.

I just wanted to applause you for this very thorough post.
Nintendo (and Sega) have tried definitely online ventures multiple times in the past.
Online gaming was even possible on the Gamecube.

Kind of like how the PlayStation controller ripped a lot its design directly from the SNES controller?

Also, One is a brand name and one is the company name... if it were Sony Network, then they'd be ripping bolical :P but since it's not... NINTENDO'S INNOVATING AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! :DSounds likely, Nintendo was talking about making a good online service like PSN and Live. Only thing though is that they would probably change the name of it, Nintendo Network sounds too similar to PSN, they'll probably come up with a different name for it. It will probably be a free service too, Nintendo doesn't run scams unlike Xbox Live.

2 mods posting in the same topic that is truly a rare sight.

There was actually three. and there's another thread here too that has three mods as well. :o!
3 in 2 different topics 0_0 before this topic i had only ever seen 1 mod post in any topic and that was only after nearly 500 posts in that topic.
EDIT: Wait 3 different ones or the 3 same ones, actually how many mods are there in total?
There's almost 40 for the whole site, but there's about 8 who regular System Wars. I'm one of the 8 who regular System Wars.
upon further speculation, I doubt this "Nintendo Network" is a unified structure. I would assume it's just a rebrandng of Nintendo WFC at the moment. Still, I've already created a multitude of email accounts in order to secure the best usernames to sell on ebay, as I still hope I'm wrong. I just don't want to get my hopes up.
Brilliant name for this rumored service.musicalmac
ha. personally, i would've gone with nintendo world, except that's the name of their nyc store. thus, nintendo uuuuuuuuuuuniberseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I don't see any Nintendo 1, Nintendo 2, Nintendo 3 or Sega 1, Sega 2, Sega 3 etc. Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Playstation 3 is completely original and Sony is the only company to come up with the idea, while companies like Nintendo resort to copying the exact same name "Nintendo Network" instead of coming up with something original and new  What's new, are Nintendo going to change the Wii U's name to the "Playstation Wii"? Sad and lazy.Playstation Network, Nintendo Network... come on now that's just sad and lazy as f***.[QUOTE="Messiahbolical-"]

So you agree that Playstation 1 2 3 is lazy as f*ck even though putting a number at the end, kinda like what movie and game sequels do, is "original"? LOL!!! Oh man dude, you should just stick to trolling, don't try to start convo, just troll

Well I guess were finished here, until next bashing !
My moderation history shows that I take pride in my work. :) But in all honestly, I seriously hope that Nintendo does come up with something other than just "Nintendo Network". I like how Xbox Live, Steam, and Playstation Network are all completely different names and easily distinguishable to the average person(or non-gamer). Kind of like Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3... there's practically no way to confuse them. The last thing we need is another "Network", it would only confuse people who aren't gaming-inclined. Some little PS3-owning kid somewhere is going to get a card from his grandma with Nintendo Network points on it for his birthday instead of Playstation Network points or vice versa. We all know how stupid grandmas are when it comes to video games. Grandmas all over the world will be buying the wrong point cards, and kids will be crying all around the globe on Christmas. Poor kids. ;(Lol. I admit you got me. Nice one.
