Rumor! NX at CES

We all know that a big part of Nintendo’s focus in 2016 will be on the Nintendo NX, but we haven’t gotten much in terms of what the system is about and what it will offer yet. It appears that there will be some NX information starting to release in January, however.

Allegedly, Nintendo will be showcasing the Nintendo NX in January at CES 2016 in Las Vegas behind closed doors. Third party companies have been sent an invite to the showcase of the system, which appears to be an attempt to show them what it is capable of. Nintendo did something similar to this in2012 with the Wii U at CES.

We were also told that in terms of raw power, the Nintendo NX would be similar to the Xbox One. Our source also told us that Nintendo is looking at a lower, competitive price point to make the system more enticing. No mention was made on the “hybrid” system theory however.

I'm not going to let rumors increase/decrease my hype at this point. It's too early and the rumors will change 100 more times before the reveal.

If the system is $299-399 and is AT LEAST as powerful as PS4. I"m good, if its $299 then PS4 level is fine, if it's $399 then it should surprass the PS4 by a good bit.

I don't even mind if their control scheme is a gimmick, I sort of hope they keep the Wii motion controls intact (or at least iterate on it). But if it's some crazy 2 screen thing again, where the controller is $100-150 but adds nothing - and the hardware is gimped to make up for the expensive controller... then I agree...fu%^ 'em. I don't want gimped hardware that comes out 3 year after the other guys.

Makes sense. I'd figure they'll still have their own event and/or special E3 showing though, but it's time to start assuring devs/publishers/investors that they have a good product in their hands and what kind of products exactly (for the devs without them yet).

If the console is noticeably stronger than a ps4, has all/most of the multiplats (i just want my Souls series on this thing!), i'm selling my ps4 and getting their console. Severe cow transformation will be happening.

Should be quite a bit more powerful than the ps4. It is coming out a few years after the ps4 so to only be as powerful or almost as powerful when these consoles are already struggling to run current games would be a little disheartening.

I'll chalk this up as a rumor and will wait for Nintendo to reveal the console before passing judgement.

Very interested to see what this console ends up being... In terms of it being as powerful as Xbone, I wouldn't be surprised by that. I've always had doubts as to whether it'd be as powerful as people were predicting (more than PS4 etc).

But anyway, we'll see.

I was hoping for at least as powerful as PS4 for $299. Or significantly more powerful than PS4 for $399. If it is at Xbox One level I hope they're selling it at $199. At that price I wouldn't think twice about buying NX. I jumped right in with Gamecube at that price and I'd do the same with NX.

We've heard so many mixed things about the NX's hardware power (not competing with PS4/XB1, as powerful as XB1, as powerful as PS4, more powerful than PS4, requires high end PCs to run its games) that I wouldn't take anything else we hear at face value anymore. The unveiling of the system is finally almost here- let's just wait and find out what Nintendo have managed to cook up this time.

Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Spatoon, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta, Xenoblade Chronicles X.

This is just on the Wii U, which is a console with not a lot of third party support, and without counting Need for Speed Most Wanted, FIFA 13, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin's Creed III, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Mass Effect 3.

On a proper Nintendo console with good hardware and online? One would assume they would get good third party support again.

If it's only as powerful as the Bone, no buy. I already bought a WiiU, so that would not warrant the price of a new console to me. That would be complete shit if it is true.

Nintendo only has Bayonetta 2 because they fund it, Kind of like Sony with the SFV Am I correct? Bayonetta 3 (if it does happened) can be heading to any console or PC depends on which company (MS, Sony and etc) decide to fund the project right? I really hate to buy another console for 1 game lol!!

Since this is rumored to be X1 powered, I'm actually thinking this is the best strategy for Nintendo. It's going to be powerful enough to coast it's way through this generation, eligible for 8th gen multiplats, and it will keep the cost competitive at the same time. And I'm thinking they will release another console at around the same time as the PS5 and X2. A one on their power level. This permanently gets them back in the game.

Another good thing about this is, at least for Nintendo, is that due to the PS4 software sales being so much higher than Xbox Ones for multiplats, publishers might want to just release their games on NX for any extra potential sales they can get. Even if the NX version doesn't make up the sales gap between the PS4 and X1 version, it's still more sales. And it's more games for the NX.

This is assuming this is attractive to third parties. As in, no proprietary formats of any kind, has a solid and practical controller. This doesn't have to be an issue, they can just have some common sense really.

I hope this is true, I'm sick of the rumors and predictions at this point. They need to start giving us info if they want us to consider picking it up at launch.

They said Behind Closed Doors so that means we will know dick about it, but developers, investors, and everyone in the industry will know about it.

Even if they did unveil the machine I doubt that they will be outright telling us the specs on the machine. If they did that it would most likely be a big first for them. Especially considering the competition. At this point I'd believe xbox one power. Especially if they are thinking of using that add on box for super power later on.

If it's the same power as Xbox One then it's dead on arrival. Current consoles are struggling to run games at 1080p 30fps so why make hardware with the same specs? We get Nintendo first party games aren't exactly graphics power houses but they'd be done for when the next waive of consoles release.

but if we go by previous console cycles we won't see PS5 and Xbox 2 until 2019. This means that Nintendo could just as easily float along with the twins for 3 years, and roll out another console or their upgrade plan in 2020 without issue.

Sounds disappointing, but they're aiming for an affordable price point, also it depends on what tech they're using. My old thread about using a 28 nm processor SoC APU maybe correct.

Not surprised if it turns out to be accurate. Xbox 1 level of performance at $250 was my prediction.

I'm far more interested in their handheld product.

I hope people aren't expecting something more powerful than the PS4. I think we have reached the peak of the consoles at the current price points. I forsee even the next Playstation if their is one (many years down the road) too not be much more powerful than what we have now. If you try to keep it at 399 or 299 you will not ever get a true "leap". So don't bash Nintendo for not making something much more powerful than the PS4. That would cost over $599+ and they would lose before they start.

This thing better be fire, the hype is real and Nintendo can't chance another **** up like the WiiU.

I'll just wait for the reveal itself before getting hype or upset about it...if good then I will get NX at launch...if bad then that money will goto PS4 & I will get NX later. :P

People are really starting to show they're not as into their PS4's and Xbone's as they've said before, based on the hype the NX is getting

It's only going to get multi plats when the sales are there........that is up to the install base.

I wasn't exactly meaning specs. I meant more on the rumors that have been circling on what the system actually is.

• Is the controller an iPad like device, is it a traditional controller, or is it a mix of the two, like a more advanced Wii U gamepad?
• Is the system a console/portable hybrid? If so, is the controller the handheld device, or is that something you'll be required to buy separate from the main system, and what, if any, are the limitations of the handheld compared to the main system?
• Is their any truth to the rumor of the NX been able to connect to other peoples NX systems to increase it's power via the cloud?
• Is the system going back to carts, is it digital only, or will it have discs?
• Will it have access to the full library of past Nintendo games?

These are the things I want to start getting info on, so I can consider if I want buy this at launch, or if I'll wait.

As for the specs themselves, I'm predicting they'll aim for somewhere between the X1 and PS4, possibly closer to PS4, as I have a feeling they're going to try and grab some of the big Japaneses developed 3rd party titles that would otherwise be exclusive to PS4 (which might also get them western 3rd party titles, but I don't think they'll make that a priority).

Though, I just can't believe Nintendo would release a console only as powerful as the XB1 three years after it was released. It shouldn't be hard for the NX to be a good deal more powerful than the XB1 in 2016 without making the console too expensive for Nintendo fans.

pretty much. But if the system is weak, we may get what happened with the wii. Lots of sales but only shovelware as third party. Being on par with the ps4 isn't good enough for a console that will be released three years after the ps4 either. I don't want to see a certain game run at 25-30fps/1080p on ps4 and 30fps/1080p on NX, that's not enough. i want that same game being able to render 60fps when the other two can only *barely* achieve 30fps. Now that's a console worth owning and switching to.

It's not that we won't get to hear anything from Press or Developers from this. We just won't get anything official or a picture of the console till probably around E3.

All they need to do is make a console where PG can get a perfect 60 FPS at 1080.

Some on this thread talked about returing to cartridges for the NX. Why go there eventhough discs cost less to produce? Has it to do with loading time?

Yes, for near instant load times i'd prefer the NX to use sd cards. Not to mention they're more durable than discs.

If Nintendo doesn't want the NX to have a hard drive, their only option is to use cartridges or to have a disc drive that's so fast it sounds like a jet engine (Xbox 360). If they don't use cartridges they should stick a sizable hybrid drive in each unit, though I don't want mandatory installs because that wouldn't be plug and play. OG Xbox games used the hard drive as a cache, that'd be the thing to do if they stick with blu ray.

NX will be gen 9. Sony has this gen and I love the PS4 thus far and think it will only get better. For me to fully jump back into Nintendo they need third party. I don't want to buy a console for only exclusives. Those can be a big part of the console, but I want to be able to play some big 3rd party games on it like GTA, COD, Madden, ect...pretty much all the games the Wiiu misses out on now.

If they decide to resale some low powered gimmick which combines console/handheld, that's fine but devs better jump on board.

I've only bought 1 Wiiu game in last 2 years, the next console needs to appeal to me more,

Not to mention that many developers have skip the wii consoles because of lack of power and not wanting to go the extra mile for it,so i am sure that if they have good enough hardware they will get the support.

Yep, basically. Even if third party games on the NX only sell a few hundred thousand copies, assuming a console with proper hardware, the porting costs will be minimal and even a few hundred thousand copies will represent a significant return on investments. All Nintendo needs to do is make a console with good hardware and good online- that's it.

I think that sounds legit. Does Nintendo really need more power than that for their ips? I think they'll do just fine with xbone power
