Sony is planning to officially detail the PlayStation Neo at a New York Event on September 7^th, if reports are to be believed.

French site Gameblog is carrying the date. It points out that the PS4 was also revealed in New York, and also mentions rumours of a possible Nintendo NX reveal on September 12^th, which if true would certainly give Sony incentive to get word of its machine out first.

On the flip side, The Tokyo Game Show starts on September 15^th, which arguably might be a more fitting venue for the reveal? Although with console gaming in massive decline in Japan, perhaps a stateside reveal would be more suitable.

PS4 Neo was finally confirmed just before E3, quite some time after the machine was first detailed in extensive online reports. Sony chose not to unveil the machine at E3, however. Microsoft is also working on an upgraded version of the Xbox One that reportedly packs far more tech power than Sony’s machine.

Rumours persist that Neo may arrive at retail this side of Christmas, with previous reports pointing quite firmly to October.

Sony has been awfully quite about their system, to tell you the truth I'm more interested in the NX as I have a PS4 and I'm not really into this, only if Sony has something more to show.

I think after the scorpio announcement, sony is going to launch with a lower price then they intended, Which in turn will have the scorpio priced lower to compete and the gamers win. Sony is worried about the Neo feeling "outdated" after the scorpio announcement.

Scorpio won't be as bleeding edge in 2017 as the OG XBOX was in 2001, or even as much as Xbox 360 was in 2005. They were both equivalent to very high-end PCs at launch, Scorpio will be like mid range at best when it comes out late next year.

@lolzman: so much secracy this close to launch. Its like they arent proud of the product they have. Saying we are releasing a new console this year at e3 but have nothing to show. I don't know it feels like a weird leas up to a console launch. Its as if sony really doesn't want to launch this year but kinda have too because of of money already ivested. We'll see how they do the announcement though to build up some hype

And why not TGS just a week after that? Unless... Nintendo is unveiling the NX there?

If Sony is going to announce an underwhelming upgrade to the PS4, might as well make it so the bad news and fallout of that is forgotten about when the NX announces.

They probably only knew about the Xbox One S and basically thought they would pull another 'moar powerful' PR extravaganza, now they're stuck in a spot where they dont want to admit Neo is less powerful than Scorpio after hyping power all gen but its really needed to help PSVR.

I think if they do some great trade-in deals they can still salvage it. But after selling 43 million PS4s there cant be that huge of a first time PS4 buyer market left without a price drop. For a person not getting PSVR, Neo doesnt really seem like its worth buying if it has the leaked specs.

Maybe they'll unveil an $800 Neo+PSVR bundle or something. We'll see.

Can't wait but if its as weak as its rumored... not for me.

I think this is actually better then announcing at TGS. Concentrated single event then follow that up on trade shows to come. Its kind similar to ps4 announcement which worked very well for them.

no, I'm talking about if there were nothing but the Neo announcement then Sony would be eating a lot of shit for likely being underpowered compared to the Scorpio coming in a year, but media attention will likely be supplanted by everybody going nuts about the NX, be it good or bad, but whatever it is the NX will be the center of attetion; hence, it's a good, safe time to announce the Neo, thus my comment of Sony hiding behind Nintendo's skirt

What I am most curious about is, what plans third party devs have to update their old games to take advantage of Neo.

Hoping for GTA V and Dark Souls 3 to get Neo patches.

Yeah they had to take a minute and re-assess the market situation after MS announcements. They also had to acknowledge the leaks and obviously lower E3 expectations.

It will probably take off and sell well if its priced nicely, designed well and has a release date like now or just a month or 2. If it comes out looking like the slimmer ps4 and priced at the current ps4 price it will take off. There is a market for a redesigned ps4 slim if sony really doesn't have that then this is there solution they should communicate well on that. Honestly that will answer a few questions about there thinking and not so big of a leap argument.

PS4N $399 looking slim and sexy with that power jump it will sell.

If you don't want to upgrade to Neo or Scorpio, you don't have to. OG PS4 and Xbox One will be supported for a long time, especially OG PS4. There's 43 million of them out there, worldwide.

Pretty darned cutting edge as far as an APU design is though. Is there any APU on the market that is that powerful?

Ill be watching but im not excited about NEO nor Scorpio and if NX ends up being a handheld more than a console , ill pass consoles yet again for another generation.

Probably will take another significant process shrink before it happens ... like maybe when the industry gets to 7nm or so. I don't know how much smaller transistors can get though. I know were already very close to the ceiling, something about quantum tunneling and not knowing where the electron is or some such thing.

That wont happen with NEO.

Im predicting NX being a handheld with the ability to play games on TV as well and that means it merges the handheld and console fanbase. Now assuming hardware wont be top notch and there are many indications about that , automatically will make NX price very viable for the masses.

With that being said ADD some of the best 1st party NINTENDO titles , any of the big 4 and more , on NX release and youll see NX sales go nuts.

NEO on the other hand will be expensive , it wont have massive appeal for a while for the majority of gamers , specially for the ones that already own a PS4 and they havent/not willing to spend more $$ for just a better version of PS4.

So , 3 to 1 ? For that to happen needs NX to be the UTTER CRAP OF UNIVERSAL SHIT and NEO be at a very very attractive price tag at the same time. There is a chance for something like that but its minimal if you ask me.

Either way , NX is a big bet for NINTENDO and if they fail this , theyll be officially out of console wars ( imho , they already are out with NX )

My main hope for the Neo is they will announce it won't sound like a f***ing plane taking off while you're trying to play a game.

I find the value of web sites/services to be a very bizarre thing. Billions of dollars for something that isn't a tangible thing, for something that can disappear if a wire is pulled. Billions! Just weird.

If you want to buy a PS4 and is $350 and in October a way stronger version is announce for $400 what do you think will happen to the $350 version in the meantime.?

I think the PS4 one still the strongest APU,so Scorpio one should be the very best at the time.

What i am concern is the CPU,as there was no confirmation of what CPU it was other than 8 core,and that say nothing 8 cores is the one on xbox and PS4 already.

The bigger and hotter the GPU is on the APU the weaker and lower clocked the CPU would probably end being,since this is a SOC you can't expect them to have a 8 big CPU cores inside so is either the same Jaguar with higher clock speed or probably a Zen equivalent of the Jaguar.

Because if they going to make a so-called premium console I want it be a major step up. I really hate the idea of it being stuck with a shitty overclocked Jaguar, but that is probably what will happen. That bothers me more than the TF of the GPU.

I'll just be glad when the specs are finally out and we can confirm whether it's 4.14 or 5.5 TF and be done with that argument. Of course a new argument will be spawned as the old one dies, but that's how System Wars operates right? At least the arguments won't be based on speculation anymore.
