Final Fantasy 13 sold almost 6 million copies with a new female lead character. Heavenly Sword sold ammounts with 2 million copies sold. And Bayonetta is almost at the 2 million mark.
Sex doesn't have anything to do with the development of games. I actually think its more fun, entertaining & interesting seeing chicks kicking ass.
Other games where female leads are presented never stoped a game selling well. Ex; Uncharted 2, Resident Evil 5, Heavy Rain, etc.
The only good female lead I can think of is Nariko from Heavenly Sword.

How is samus a good character. In powers and abilities yes but in character development no. Other M will solve that problem.... Terra and Celes of FFVI are great protagonists as well....I love how the game was more ensmeble cast but the two women were the most important characters. They should make a Princess of Persia with elikia in the lead....and dump that new Prince....lol

With the Way Kotick and Activision have been going, someone needs to take them down. IW may be dissolved, but they are being reborn as Respawn Entertainment at EA. I can't wait to see how it all turns out.:P
Not a big issue for me as I find that I can't really relate to a female protagonist in the first place. Plus sometimes if characters are too revealing, yeah should be cool, right? But over time I find that it becomes more of a distraction than anything. Playing FFXIII right now though, even though I'm playing a young woman, it isn't distracting and its reasonable. Metroid I never had a problem with because you can't even see her in the first place lol.
