Wouldn't be surprising would it?
Consoles take a very long time to develop,
and I assume M$ wants to take the time necessary to fully test
the system this time.
so?
"Work on the next Xbox has to begin at some point, and just because work is ongoing now it doesn't mean the end of the Xbox 360 is near - development of a new platform won't happen overnight"
ZOMG TEH 360 IS DOOMED!
MICROSOFT IS GOING TO RELEASED THE XBOX 3 AND ANNOUNCE IT AT GDC TODAY!
Because you know..consoles are developed in mere hours. Just like graphics cards are developed in minutes..
Oh wait, thats right thats the System Wars mentality. You build a new rig today and it's out of date tomorrow so it only make sense that consoles are developed in hours.
Releasing too many consoles is basically admitting that your previous effort couldn't get the job done in the war with its competition.roadkill88huh?
How do you release "too many" consoles?
Edit: *thinks of Sega CD, 32x, etc.
nintendo said as soon as they ship their latest product...they start developing the next one....every company does that :| Nintendo Wii 2 is in dev, ps4 is in dev and so is the next xboxmingo123
One small correction to your statement.. should be "Next Nintendo Console" ... Nintendo has more creative minds when it comes to console naming.. unlike Sony and MS it seems.
[QUOTE="SpigleyMcCheese"]Don't they all start developing the next one as soon as possible?dhjohns
One would hope.
When first rumors came out...several months ago..it was shocking considering RROD still dominates a lot of 360's..but they are on their 3rd year so..might as well get a new one.
This is news? This is the same with every console producer, especially Nintendo who have at least 4 R&D depertmants looking into next-generation development.ShazenabActually as of 2004 they only have one R&D department because Iwata merged all the R&D divisions into EAD because R&D1 focused on Handhelds, handheld games, and Metroid. R&D2 made some games, R&D3 made Punch Out and Star Topics but mainly focused on Periferals, and R&D4 (EAD) made the Consoles and the Big Franchises. BNut in 2004 all R&D divisions merged into EAD and EAD has 5 divisions.
