I have yet to finish Assassin's Creed II or play any since, but one set it Egypt would have me interested.

Syndicate's sales were lower compared to previous AC games, and now they've decided to revamp the series and give players what they wanted. That's what happens when you vote with your wallets (yeah Unity's launch was responsible for this too but still...)

Syndicate's launch was worse than Unity's, it held better week on week than Unity, however, and is currently tracking higher.
There is no information at all about a possibly revamped combat system in the kotaku article...
I'm relived for now. Either a true AC game (yeah, I know the irony...) or no AC game at all.
I still have to play Syndicate. But all I've read, heard and saw about its combat system I'm not really looking forward to it, no matter the story (which doesn't seem to be that great either). So basically, another virtual historical city tourist simulator...
This bi-annual thing can do wonders for Assassin's Creed. This might be the best idea Ubisoft have had for the series since, well, AC2.
Wonder what they're gonna do. I'm not even in the camp of "hey they're skipping a year so it's for the better". People said the same with Need for Speed, and look how that turned out. Yeah, a new Need for Speed came out last year. Not to mention the whole "yeah, it's early but this development team has been working on it for 3 years, so it's alright". Yeah, seen that before, too. And we got Black Ops 3, which is shite.
What they need is a focused team and a publisher who isn't interested in treating costumers as ATM machines. Let's not even pretend any of you have a foot to stand on when it comes to AC games that play better than AC2, which I love, it's all of them. Don't harp back to it, because I know, for a fact, you haven't played it in ages. It's been outdone in mechanics, and content. I love AC2, but I won't pretend it's the God amongst AC games. It isn't.
Syndicate, along with Unity's design is way above any other AC game. This is just true. It is. Don't come barking to me about AC games and how they improve each iteration. I know, and I'm not blind. If you want Ubisoft to reboot this, they need to do something drastically different. Hell, turn it full stealth. Have Splinter Cell people on it, because I don't know what else you guys want from an open world action game. In the end, it's gonna be more of the same, because that's what this franchise is built on. It's not gonna alter stuff in a crazy way. It's not gonna blow you away with its next game. It'll be more AC with some stuff added/taken away. You want something new from an AC franchise, look for something else. This is an established franchise that people love, and while it's not selling as well as it was, it's in no need for revamping to a point where you have to reintroduce the whole thing. They'll still be going for a certain audience, because people dig stabbling people.

Tell that the Tomb Raider developer who fuckin ruined the series...
I say, Ubisoft can do so as well. Syndicate was the first step in the wrong direction (ok, everything after AC 3 was) so they are on their best way...
I'd love the setting though. Would be a perfect start for another triology, best culminating in ancient Rome... ;)
@LordCrash88: I'll give you the reboot, but Rise? No. That goes back to Tomb Raiding. And let's not pretend "old skool tr" was brilliant. It wasn't. You want Tomb Raider, puzzles and platforming, play the isometric ones, because those 2 games are more Tomb Raider than old Tomb Raider games.
I call bull until January 1, 2017. Ubisoft promised us more Mediocre Creed and we're going to eat some Mediocre Creed dangit. But in the event there is no Mediocre Creed then thank god. AC: Syndicate should have been the clear sign to let this franchise breath for a bit. I mean Forza doing a two year back and forth between Motorsport and Horizon is bad enough but at least tolerable.

They still have two entries in Assassins Creed Chronicles to put out this year. That's probably enough for die hard fans until this 2017 one comes out.
I love the concept of AC (parkouring around in ancient cities combined with some stylish combat and stealth). I really want them to succeed with this vision and make a truly great game that is a clear GOTY contender (just to choose a random metric). This to me sounds like a small chance to actually do that. Sure there was a lot of hype for AC3 and it flopped and so migh this. But with a year off at least there is hope imo.
I skipped Unity and Syndicate because I just can't stand the tired formula anymore. I'm also not that excited for relatively modern, gray European cities. Colorful ancient Egypt sounds way more exciting. Hopefully this game can be a knockout!
And as long as it has Assasins creed in the name I won't be buying it. I'm tired of sequels spin offs and remasters. I hate how my government gives this shit company ubisoft money. They sure as hell don't fucking deserve our tax dollars.
I'm down with Egypt, some interesting historical characters they could play around with. Need to read up on Egyptian weapons to see what interesting ones make it into the game. Still would have prefered Japan.
This is a good thing. They are finally listening. Just when I finally started to have interest again in the series.
They better revamp everything including the parkour and controls.
Assassins Creed has gotten so stale, it needs to be 2 or even 3 years between releases from now on.
Even single games get stale on their own. The story is never that exciting, and a lot of the missions are repetitive and annoying

I actually loved the idea of Victorian Era London, and that's why I got AC: Syndicate - when I hadn't played since AC2.
It was actually better than I thought, considering all the hate it gets since it's become an annual franchise...and I thought they did a great job at pulling off the environment, but the gameplay didn't seem to evolve much since AC2 (and I couldn't remember exactly, but I think some of the sidequests and little details were lacking compared to the older game - to the point it might have been MORE repetitive to complete the game with less diverse missions). Besides the obvious graphical enhancements, the only clear thing that advanced was that in certain missions you had 3 different options to complete certain assassinations - but even that was only on certain missions and was somewhat scripted, but a few of the staged assassination methods were cool if pulled off properly. They certainly throw alot of stuff out there, but too much of it is the same. This is a problem of many open world games, so not exactly a knock on Syndicate - but it can always be better. I honestly don't see how anyone plays this game on an "annual" basis. But the quality was more than acceptable for it to be a good solid one off game, you just have to choose WHICH one (with all the bugs, it seemed Unity wasn't that game... but I was more than happy with Syndicate, Syndicate didn't seem to suffer from being annual).
Hopefully if this rumor is true, they put alot more ambition into changing up the game-play, make the AI more punishing, put at least a little strategy/skill into what you are doing, up the diversity of missions, and rely less on the repetitive tasks. That is really the key.
Don't believe it. But if it's true and it's directed by Ashraf Ismael (Black Flag) then I may finally return to Ass Creed franchise.
Yup, it's one of those that's too good to be true, but hey 2015 had plenty of those moments in terms of games announcements. Still, for now, it's most definitely on the "not buying" pile of rumours.
I would like Egypt to be setting though. I think they desperately need to go back further in time to make the concept appealing again. They're getting dangerously close of modern times and with that modern weapons, thus losing one of few unique aspects of the series.
I feel the exact same way, i think they need to take a step back (in time periods) and I would Love an Egyptian, Greek, and Japan assassin creed game! black flag was awesome so was Brotherhood.
I really don't know why there haven't been more games set in ancient egypt or just the ancient world in general. If they make this its an instant buy for me.

If God of War 4 goes in that direction as well then we'll have 2 AAA games set in Egypt in 2017.
People are so gullible, just like Ubisoft saying they were going SP only of AC Syndicate to try to right the wrongs of Unity... such BS, besides giving us back the whistle lure and a female protagonist, the rest, there still exists many of the major wrongs of Unity such as gimping players like a level one competitive MP player that needs to be leveled up, the combat is wonky and terrible, pistols gimped, the controls unresponsive, traverse not smooth, there's no stand alone modern day narrative that hints at the greater story arc like Black Flag, just ambiguously another agent in the Animus.
So, here they are again saying they're delaying to get it right... I call bullshit, I bet they just want to release the next Watch Dogs holiday quarter and they can't release AC next to it without competing against themselves. So AC is getting pushed back, and people will likely praise the excuse they were spoon-fed just like they did for Syndicate.
@kratosyoloswag: I've been saying it for ages. They have done Ancient Greece now. Change the whole franchise and go with Eqypt. New hero new setting.
looked at title
looked that it was from 4chan
hmmm
I dont know if ubi has the self-restraint to not have an annual release. I would like to see one set in Japan, with a higher focus on blades instead of guns and bring back the strategy of taking out targets that the first one had. I may be in the minority here, but I didnt like the boats in Black Flag. I liked boarding other ships, but it was just too much time on the sea with sea battles becoming stale...
Anyhow, what's unconfirmed rumor, the delay or the next setting or both? I hope they get to ninjas and feudal Japan before the series exhausts its goodwill.
I didn't realize this thread existed until now...
I think it's good that they're actually deciding to take their time with the next one. And they're actually listening to fans this time, with the Egypt setting (if true), which was one of the most requested settings from fans (second only to Japan).
Well with Egypt they have he possibility of making the protagonist a native Egyptian and the guard being Romans or Greek. The setting is definitely rich and unique in so many ways.
With that said, it's likely going to be a carbon copy of everything else which is what all the games did

How is Syndicate, judging game by itself and not to past games?
Reason I ask is because I've only played and beaten the last 2 and actually got a Platinum on Unity. I found the towns alive and vibrant. The FPS never bothered me because its one of the few games that a city actually looked alive, to me at least.
I'm not burned out on series having only played Black Flag and Unity and want to play Syndicate.
I'll probably rent it though.

Greco-Roman Egypt would actually be a very intriguing setting. There's so much rich history they could explore with that setting.

I haven't actually played it yet! Waiting for the price to go down :p

A perk of a backlog for sure. I remember in 2008 I bought like 8 games in Fall, then I found out I cant finish that fast and went with gamefly and price drops.
