But anyway what's wrong with Sackboy? People care about Sackboy. He's an important modern PS character. But yeah we need some more oldschool PS characters. Crash and Spyro defined the PS1. If neither are in this game I will be severely disappointed. It's important they have their original designs if they're going to be in the game though.

YES GOOD, I was afraid I would have had to slap you if you didn't know. And I don't MIND Sackboy I just want them to bring back old IPs, but I guess Sackboy is a good choice, more modern well known IP character.

Crash in particular seems like a good guy to have in there regardless, he was pretty much a PS1 mascot sony should have swiped that license from universal back in the day.

I find it idiotic snake and the old Dante (the Dante rumoured to be on PSASBR is the new one) arent on this game. They were always PlayStation characters. Why SSB has snake and not this is beyond me... I guess they just dont wanted it to be called "rip-off" even further if snake was present

I'm a little curious as to why Snake did not make the cut over Raiden. Is Raiden in only as a promotional tool for Rising, or is it due to Snake already being planned to return in Smash 4 and Konami being unwilling or unable to offer him for PSABR?

No offense to Raiden, but I'm suprised he got in over Snake. Snake seems to be More popular and is the face of the franchise, so its a tad odd that he loses out to another charcter, who while being popular does not have the recognition and popularity of Snake.

I'm just wondering what the story is on this. You would think Snake would have been a top pick to make it into the roster of a game like this, especially if it involves Sony. It also makes me wonder, is this some kind of unofficial conformation that Snake might be coming back in Smash 4?

3rd party or not, those names are still pretty much assocated with the PlayStation brand

Konami may not have the ability to offer Snake for this game. We have no idea what kind of agreement Nintendo and Konami reached when they had Snake appear in Brawl, and if Sakurai wants Snake back in Smash 4, it may come with a clause that Snake can't be in PSASBR. Or it could just be a choice on Konami's part. Maybe they don't want to have Snake in both games, so they let Nintendo have Snake since he was in Brawl and Sony have Raiden.

I don't think its a fear of being called a rip-off by Nintendo fans. Snake being in the game is not going to change the fanboys saying that.

Raiden got in over Snake for one of three reasons. Konami wants to promote Rising, so Raiden is being used to advertise that game, Nintendo has a clause that makes Snake exclusive to Smash Brothers, or Konami was unwilling to have Snake in both games, so Sony got Raiden.

Old Snake or Big Boss would've been better from a marketing perspective , but Raiden might turn out to be a good fit over Snake in the end , as some people were already complaining that there might be too many gun oriented players in the game with Radec , Drake , Jak , Ratchet (shoo-in) , and Sweet Tooth to a degree. And obviously Raiden contributes to these cool hack n slash matchups.

Well, Sonic is pretty much a given to return in SSB4, and Snake is very likely to come back as well(Especially if Raiden is in PSASBR)

And keep in mind, we might see a couple more third-party characters join those two if they return.

Its very possible we see Mega Man, a Namco character, potentially a Castlevania character, or even some others like Square Enix characters and Suda 51 which are names that are floating around.

So, SSB4 could have a decent third-party selection. And since there are two versions, they might split the third-parties up which means more of them might show up.

And don't forget, SSBB already got two of the biggest third-party characters. Sonic and Snake are not minor-league characters, and the are arguably bigger then some of the third-party characters that have been named for PASBR. And those two will likely come back in SSB4.
