Sakurai really doesn't like the idea of putting other FG characters in Smash

The biggest feature we look at in Smash Bros. is, What does this character bring to Smash Bros. that other characters dont? If you look at someone from a fighting game already, and people like fighting with this character, from my point of view, its like this guy does what this guy already does. He fills the role that this character already has. So while you may like this character and hes interesting, that doesnt really merge well, here.

Well, there goes any chance of a Soul Calibur character being guest starred. :(

I mean, I know Sonic, Snake, and Mega Man were in fighting games prior (Respectively: Sonic the Fighters, Dream Mix TV, and Marvel vs Capcom 1/2), but they originated from other genres (Mega Man and Sonic being from platformers, while Snake is from Stealth-Action), so there is no irony in what he's saying.

Thoughts?

Good. The whole novelty of Smash is seeing people who don't usually beat the hell out of other characters, go and beat the hell out of other characters. I call it the "Heihachi in Soulcalibur 2 syndrome" Besides, plenty of other Namco characters would fit the roster better. Pac-man is the easy one.

I think Heihachi had other problems in being in SCII, like for one, never having a weapon in his own continuity resulting in having the devs add freaking gauntlets.

I thought that made him unique at least. But I can say through experience that he is the least interesting to see and the least fun of the guest characters to play as, which is disappointing as he's the only one returning in HD.

Guess they can't get in touch with Todd McFarlane for getting Spawn back (we obviously know why Link won't return... at least for now). Either way, I'm sticking with my GameCube version of that game and have no interest in downloading the HD version

First of all, other fighting game characters in Super Smash Bros. is a stupid idea.  It's supposed to be a Nintendo museum and featuring guest characters adds some cool novelty here and there, but adding a fighting game character is dumb.

Also, Spawn > Link > Heihachi.

Also Xbox > GameCube > PS2 for the quality of the game.

Also Xbox=PS2 > GameCube for how smoothly the game controlled.  Cuz that GameCube Dpad was just way too tiny and those buttons made no sense in a traditional fighting game.  Still, the Xbox version of Soul Calibur II was the best playing one with the best guest character.

What's the point of removing characters though?

I disagree good sir, aside from the controller sucking, Link was by far the coolest cameo. Spawn was beast too, but you can't top the manliness of the great fairy sword. :P

Link is a cool character, but he just wasn't as fun to play as Spawn was.

I think a lot of people is missing the point. mega man is in the game not because of demand. its because he is from that era of gaming that changed gaming forever. why in the hell would a soul calibur character be in the game ?. this isn't the first time Namco helped Nintendo with a game. Namco also does the Mario kart arcade games. the only fighter characters that has a chance of making in a smash game is a street fighter 1 character but it wont happen this time due to mega man being in the game. ya know damn well ya don't want smash to become a full Capcom cameo game

I agree with this post 100%. I wanna see characters from other genres enter the fight scene.

It was something I would have liked to see after seeing Link in Soul Calibur II, just to make it fair game.

Oh and I call bull crap on why Mega Man was in. When Brawl came out, it was highly requested to put him in the next game, so I have no doubt that played a part of it. Being from the same era makes no sense unless there's another part of a legacy and like Solid Snake (even though Kojima wanted to see him in Melee) and Sonic before him, Mega Man always had a legacy on Nintendo systems, so it makes sense on why they're in.

it was already fair game when they put pacman in Mario kart. soul calibur characters aren't even known that much except for ivy. by the time kojima wanted solid in melee the game was already in the finishing stage. how can you call bs on an era if you said the same thing ?. we all know megaman had a legacy on Nintendo. solid snake was also in the Nintendo era. pit is in game and he didn't have a game in the last 20 years. when it comes to cameo characters don't expect anyone from n64 era and up. all cameos will come from the nes era so far. they didn't even touch the snes era yet. come on the wiifit girl... really ? if that's the case theres my pilotwings man ?. when it comes to sonic imo hes a Nintendo character and I wont be surprised if hes in this game.

I'll buy a Wii U for Smash Bros if they add Nathan Drake to the roster.

Doesn't make sense at all, and people defending this should be pimp slapped. Look at Ken in Street Fighter, look at how Smash bros. Plays, you actually think that he could keep his moveset in smash bros? He would be a different character. It's clear that Sak is just confirming that Smash is not a fighting game.

Fine with me. Fighting game crossovers are nice but I rather have a unique character than a character who's been on other fighting games a lot of times. Like we need to see Chun-Li or Ryu in yet ANOTHER fighting game.
