Ok i have had my 3ds since december, and went to check out the eshop.... when i went to buy something they added freakin tax on to the purchase... why?

When I get a game on PSN, i don't have to pay tax at all.

Not to mention the overpricing of nintendo games... why do old nes games cost the same amount as PSX games? Those games are shorter and in 8-bit so i don't get this at all. Yet games on PSN can last 50+ hours and cost the same as super mario bros 1? NIntendo is being greedy here. big time. And why are 3ds games like super mario land and zelda $40 on the store? Those games should be cheaper than vita games yet 1st party vita games I can get on release for $5 less on the store, $35. And they go on sale. I haven't seen one sale on this eshop. Nintendo sure seems greedy. With taxing and high prices for digital goods.

Go to settings in the eShop, Location settings, and enter 90210 for your Zip Code. No more sales tax. You're welcome.

Also games like Escape vektor on psn for vita was $6.99 yet its 9.99 plus tax on eshop. Ridiculous, glad I got the vita version. I know its only a few dollars different but still... its like that on everything it seems.

As for sales, the eShop has already had two sales in the last one year, the pricing outside of the Virtual Console is completely fine (I agree the Virtual Console pricing is whack, but then again, I never use the Virtual Console), And why in the world should games like Super Mario 3D Land be cheaper than Vita games?

No worries lol. I honestly don't know, but since Nintendo doesn't get a penny out of the sales tax you pay, I can't say it's because they're greedy lol :P As for good games, check out Pushmo/Crashmo, Crimson Shroud (the newest RPG by the maker of Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story, 3DS eShop exclusive), and Sakura Samurai for a start.

Pushmo, Crashmo, and Sakura Samurai that I have experience with.

I think since eShop was created in 2011 it might be a new law were digital stuff has sales tax based on your state. PSN was created before that law.

I have no idea if it is true it is the only thing I could think of that eShop has tax and PSN doesn't.

Well they sure as hell shouldn't be more expensive. For a handheld that has hardware a generation behind the Vita, I don't expect the games to cost more than Vita games. Almost every single retail eShop game is £40 on 3DS. That's crazy! There are some Vita games that cost that, but it's certainly not the norm like it is with the eShop. The ridiculous pricing of the eShop in general is why I haven't bought anything on it. Now there are some stupid prices on the Vita store too, but that's put in perspective when you look at the 3DS eShop.

It just depends where the eshop store is actually located.

I know Steam charges sales tax if you're a Washington resident as that's where Valve is located, and places like Newegg charge sales tax if you're a California resident.

I've only bought 1 e-shop game and that was when E-Shop first became available. I download all those FREE E-Shop games that Nintendo gave away to people who bought the 3DS early and registered it. There aren't a lot of old Nintendo games I want off E-Shop anyways. Nintendo definitely charges too much for them.

Oh yeah, Pokedex 3D Pro is stupid. Then again, I'm talking about the games. $2 for Denpa Man? $6 for Pushmo? $7 for Crimson Shroud? I think that's all really reasonable. They really do need to get off their asses and fix the navigation layout though.

I believe the way the sales tax works is if the company has operations in your state then you are going to be charged tax. So Nintendo probably does operations in your state where as sony does not.

Taxing is based on your state...You must be in the same state as the US Nintendo office. That why changing your zip code matters. Example because I am in Florida there sales tax here for Dell products, anywhere else there is none. Soon it will not matter a number of states are working on taxing online products anyways.

Really that sucks... I always liked that there was no sales tax online. I live in Pennsylvania btw... which I am sure Nintendo doesn't have offices at. My address and zip was put in properly. This was the first and only time I have ever been taxed for a online purchase.

I'm more surprised that purchases are bound to serial number accounts per unit. At least on the 3DS. Why it's like this, when Accounts have been done properly elsewhere for years, completely baffles me and turns me off buying anything from the store entirely.

Skyrim is still being sold for $60.

Why? that game is going on it's 2nd year now.

Because it still sells.

Same reason why Call of Duty games don't go to the $19 till their 4th year on the market.

Actually no, its only perceived as overpriced. We actually get paid double the US minimum wage, so its not like we pay anymore than someone from the states. My point is, you will most likely find new super mario bros DS (yes, that 8-9 year old ds game) still full price whereas most if not all of sonys or even microsofts games drop in price fairly quickly, in a lot of cases, in months.

[QUOTE="campzor"]I said EVERYTHING, sony overpricing 1 thing =/= nintendo overpricing EVERYTHING Least 5 years down the track, first party titles are still not FULL PRICELegatoSkyheart

Skyrim is still being sold for $60.

Why? that game is going on it's 2nd year now.

Because it still sells.

Same reason why Call of Duty games don't go to the $19 till their 4th year on the market.

Not true at all about cod games.. I saw Black ops 1 for $20 and that came out in 2010.. and mw2 was around $25... that came out a little over a year ago. Hell black ops 2 was 39.00 at best buys in December.

I'm pretty sure once the government starts seeing how much digital sales are bringing in they will eventually start putting a tax on them

[QUOTE="campzor"][QUOTE="HarlockJC"][QUOTE="campzor"] Well of course im strictly speaking australia. Skyrim you can now get for $40 (Launch was $89-$100)

Everything overpriced in Australia it costs too much to ship.

Yep... hell Dragon Quest 4 and 5 are still at $30 when they are remakes for one and have been out since 2008/2009, there is no reason they aren't cheaper. Yet I can get LBP carting on the psn store for $10 , a game that came out last month.

[QUOTE="Midnightshade29"] Really that sucks... I always liked that there was no sales tax online. I live in Pennsylvania btw... which I am sure Nintendo doesn't have offices at. My address and zip was put in properly. This was the first and only time I have ever been taxed for a online purchase. Midnightshade29

I never even heard of that town but it makes sense I live on the other side of Pennsylvania.
