seriously they have money enough to buy all 3 together go look for revenue. Samsung sponsors wcg and is a electronic power. They could establish a korean market for gaming, it would be cool because koreans are awesome, agree?

Unless they bring something new to the table I don't see why they would be good for us. Otherwise they're just taking all the talent we have in the industry now shared among the consoles and PC and diluting to yet another console. Yet another platform for multiplats. Hardly exciting to be sure, even if they're superior on that platform. Wouldn't matter because it's the same thing, same exact thing. Very boring. No, they would need to have excellent "first party" titles like Nintendo to stand a chance. Don't need another multiplat box.

I'm not a big Samsung fan, they are decent at HDTV's though, but I don't see the point...then again, why not just make a thread on every electronic manufacturer getting into consoles (Toshiba, Panasonic yet again,Mitsubishi, Hitachi, Philips again,Sharp, etc)?
Did we forget how the 3DO and CDi did?
To me, they would have to have a good 1st party. Sony made SNES/PC games prior to PSONE, Nintendo made Arcade games prior to the NES, Sega made arcade games for the Master System...I would much rather see a software company like Konami or Capcom than I would just some company coming in for the heck of it. They need to have a vision as well, not just enter it just because they can, for the heck of it.
I wouldn't want Konami or Capcom to break off from being a 3rd Party as they are now either to be honest, but I don't want to see companies enter just because with no sense of direction...so, no, I don't agree with the topic.
if capcom made a console I'd probably abandon everything else.

But then theyd charge you $4.99 to have access to the DVD tray.
Maybe if they still had Platfinum/Clover and everyone who worked there. As it stands, Keiji Inafune is Capcom's only true iconic producer.if capcom made a console I'd probably abandon everything else.

Buy all 3
Sony is a much larger(and better) electronic company (with large media sections)
Microsoft = $$$$
and Nintendo is an extremely large gaming company.

Samsung 3DO says Hi. They have already attempted to enter the game console market and failed.
The PC already covers the clone gaming system business model.

Samsung is much bigger than Sony and Nintendo. Just their electronics division is made up of 165,000 employees; Sony as a whole is around the same amount. Revenue is higher, too: Samsung's electronics division revenue is like $40 billion more than Sony. Nintendo does make a lot of money, but it's much less than Samsung and Sony. They're also a relatively small company with just around 4000 employees. Samsung is not wealthier than Microsoft, though.Samsung makes great quality products (I using a samsung laptop right now and it's build quality is great, plus their TVs are great as well).
Still, their customer service isn't that great. Try going on their website and you'll see what I mean. Getting the free Windows 7 upgrade from them was just a disaster lol.

Samsung is much, much larger than Sony.
I would buy it if it was supported well, maybe a few korean mmo's would be nice too 8). Sammy make great quality kit at brilliant prices and they also supply parts like lcd screens to a lot of other companies (Bravia's use sammy LCD's).

Let's check that revenue part: Sony (79.61) + Nintendo (15.55) + Microsoft (62.48) = 157.64. Samsung has a 173.4 billion revenueYet, Sony and MS get away with it..so whats the problem? I've had no issues with samsung products...hmmmNo, my samsung TV broke, my Samsung phone broke, my Samsung Netbook's wireless driver died. Samsung make poor quailty stuff.

Samsung has a 173.4 billion revenueWhy do people always point to revenue as an indicator of a companies wealth. When taken out of context it is a meaningless statistic, I could set up a company and have revenues of £1000000 by selling expensive items, but if my expenditure eclipses that it would mean I was making a loss and my company would be irrelevant.

thats the 3DO, 3DO sold the concept samsung was just one of the manufacture like goldstar or panasonic they did the same for the saturn in korea. Of course it failed having the samsung name on the console didnt make the console or library better.

Sony: ~$30B
Samsung: 92.8T Won (~$70B)
Microsoft: >$200B
Kinda paints a different picture, doesn't it? In any event, I don't think this matters much, either. Samsung may have capital, but it needs a foot in the door. Even Microsoft needed to start somewhere (in this case, Microsoft Game Studios, which dates back to the 90's). Unless they attempt to disrupt the market by making an open console spec, I don't see how Samsung would fit in.
what's in it for them? they already make heaps of the current consoles though components such as memory. imprezawrx500Don't know about that. They certainly don't make either the CPUs (All POWER-based) nor the GPUs (those come from nVidia and AMD). Except for Sony and its XDRAM (a Rambus design), memory's a pretty open market. In addition to Samsung, you have Hynix, Micron, and Elpida, among others. And the other chips usually fall to a menagerie of specialists.
well, interesting statement, although i wonder what is stopping all the other electronic giants such as: toshiba, panasonic (yes i kno the failed with 3do in the past), Sharp, Philips, Sega (yes they could make a comeback , maybe ?), and and ofcourse LOL Apple.seriously they have money enough to buy all 3 together go look for revenue. Samsung obviously has no internal game studios. savebatteryI wouldn't be so sure about that. Samsung is a real giant in Korea, they have segments of pretty much every market, it would be unlike them to miss out video games. They're much more than just the electronics company we see in the west, they're also the world's largest construction company, the second largest ship manufacturer, a major financial power in asia and they've owned various small businesses including a line of department stores, hotel chain and theme park. All these Asian conglomerates make much more than the west ever sees. Like Kawasaki which is famous for their bikes makes most of the trains in Japan and LG who is famous for electronics is a major supplier of hepatitis vaccines.

IBM, Nvidia and AMD design the chips, they don't actually make most of them. A lot of the actual production will be done by TSMC, Samsung owns their own manufacturing facilities too and AMD has recently been developing their own under the name Global Foundries.
