[QUOTE="-RPGamer-"]I agree the Xbox brand name isn't as strong as Sony's Playstation brand name. Does this mean it will remain as such? No.
And it's not just Halo that the Xbox franchise is bringing to the table in terms of gamers and casuals. Halo is just a heavy player nowadays.
I don't think the markets between the Wii and PS3 are as different as you probably do.

Quick question: what's a "non-gamer" once he/she starts gaming?
You can keep giving out of market examples, but the simple fact of the matter is our market isn't that predictable. Market carry over already failed a very well known company at least once in our market. Brand name is nice, but it's not a definitive basis of success.
I agree with this man....reminds me of the gas crisis in the 60s when no one bought Japanese vehicles, now they're scheduled to take the number 2 spot (Toyota) as a car manufacturer. If history has taught us anything, it's that the success of a previous console doesn't equate to it's predecessor being as successful.
N64 for example.
People will buy a console for games and price, not brand loyalty.

[QUOTE="Sensui1986"]Lots of people will just buy the PS3 because it bears the name of "Playstation", instead of just looking up information and then choose to buy a console.-Sir-Poof-
Maybe thats because for the past 2 gens it was a guarantee that u were gonna get amazing games.with the PS brand.
not really... non-gamers don't look up the games that will be available for it. They don't know about the flaws of a console or the positive things about it. The only thing they know is that playing a game once in a while is fun. People that game a little more and hang out in forums to see what games are best to buy and what games are not, those are the people that tend to switch more. But the PS brand got the attention of a lot of non-gamers because games like: Buzz, singstar, guitar hero, ... or lots of them just want the latest version of Fifa, they just don't seem to notice all these fifa games are the same, and will just buy a console for that, being convinced there will be some other fun games later on they can buy.Quick question: what's a "non-gamer" once he/she starts gaming?

[QUOTE="-RPGamer-"]I call losing DQIX to the DS a pretty heavy blow for the eastern markets and Sony.

Not a huge factor? Sony loses a huge eastern franchise from the PS namebrand and it's not a factor? I don't care that it's on a handheld, that doesn't diminsh the fact it's no longer found on a PS product.
DQ trumps FF in Japan BTW.

It's what everyone is talking about. When "casual" gamers around me talk about gaming, they always talk about the wii.

I know, my question was really rhetorical. The "non-gamer" people refer to here is essentially the casual gamer once they start gaming. The only difference is, going back to how this market is dynamic, that these new casuals are entering gaming a little different than in the past (seeing a sports title for instance).
"Casuals" don't always have to like the same games, nor does the limit of "popular" games always need to remain the same. Games like Wii Sports have the ability (if they haven't already) to be the latest "popular". See I don't shoe horn casuals all under the same roof, nor do i shoe horn the idea that only this group of games are what do/will attract casuals.
I'm just repeating something most people already know but it seems to be an overlooked point that hardcore gamers/casuals who were/are happy with their PS2 will more than likely make the transfer to the PS3 in 2 years or so.Interesting. I still play my PS2 and have no intentions of buying a PS3 till they include rumble..
SW is a little surprising to me because most people in here already own a current gen (PS3, 360, Wii) console yet traditionally consumers wait around 2 years before buying a new console.
In 2 years the PS3 will already have all the major series that made the PS2 so successful.
"But that's waiting". No. I'm not arguing that the console will be worth the purchase in 2 years. I'm saying that's when PS3 will win/start to obviously win the console war.
Just want to point that out because many seem to overlook that. Anyway, what do you think about it?

It should be a concern regardless. It's a lost game regardless of where it went (and the Wii is a getting a DQ game, just to make sure we're on the same page). Level 5 doesn't determine where DQ games, the publisher and IP owner, SE, determines those kind of choices.
And keep in mind DQ, FF etc could all leave the PS namebrand (just going of your "Keep in mind DQ may still go to PS3 eventually" statement).
It would be bigger for the Wii if it was going there, however, it's still lost from Sony's library either way.

I argued with the OP on this very point for a while. I'm sure he recalls.I would edit the "forbidden" on my last post, but seeing as how GS can't seem to fix this simplistic errors I guess I won't... starting to think the 'G' stands for "glitch" when I'm on here. :|-RPGamer-

Is there any actual data on the age range for GTA games?
Further more I've watched casuals like my wife, or my friend's wife, or even my father-in-law play something like Wii Sports for hours. I mean we can generalize all day but it shows nothing.
I'm going to stand by that they're essentially the same they just have slightly different preferences.

I If I bought a Wii or Xbox360, I would miss out on enjoying many of my favorite games. Sure, some of my favorites will also be on the 360, but all of them will be on the PS3. I'll spend the extra cash if thats what it takes to play the games I like. MgunHunter

I'm not saying they're "doomed" anywhere.
But each blow hurts. Another blow would be something like the Xbox 360. Yeah it's slow over there, right? Right. Yet it keeps getting this new support (new for the Xbox brand) in the form of RPGs. So a game like BD spiked sales but it didn't send the Xbox 360 flying off the shelves compared to it's competitors. What happens when more and more of these titles release and if the trend of spikes continues? You end up with a market in the region that stands a much better chance. The Xbox 360's RPG line up is a small blow that could be pretty heavy depending on what time shows us.
The Wii and/or Xbox 360 could create such a large series.
I don't know they've never tried (mine at least). This is going back to preference. You're not as likely to see a hardcore gamer that likes FPS play a RPG. Same thing here, just different style of gamer imho.
It's not so much I don't believe you, in fact I do, but I typically like numbers. :)

Well that is faulty thinking in my opinion becuase they may buy Ps3, but they will have bought a 360 or a Wii. What this does is the following:
Satisfied gamecube customers will by a wii cause it is hot RIGHT now.
Satisfied X-box gamers will by a 360 cause it's hot right now.
These gamers will NOT by a Ps3 for the most part
The satisfied Ps2 gamer will get one and one of the other two for now.
So with that logic the Ps3 will get Less cause some for the satasfied Ps2 people will be happy with their Wii or 360 and decide to not get a Ps3. and the other two systems will only gain MAJOR ground.

ok nintendo has been losing sale every since the nes and the gb. it is because for people grow tired of the same francise you have to add more thing in so it feels new. look at the people who bought ps1, now let see how many got a ps2. you can say most got a ps2 because they like the ps1 classics and the newly added franchises. also game like mgs and ff were on nintendo but mored to playstation so those ff and mgs move over to playstion. If history has taught us anything, it's that the success of a previous console doesn't equate to it's predecessor being as successful.

ok microsoft dos shooter and sony does rpg. the 360 and it controler was not designed for rpg it was more of shooting. the ps3 controler was design for more of an everything feel. shooter on the 360 feel better. so if xbox port a ps3 game to the 360 it just wont feel the sam as having it on the ps3.well no point in looking into the future, and making assumptions of what is going to happen. for consoles its whats going on right now. if a console does not deliver from day one, its not a great buy. and well yes the ps3 will grow in sales when theres a price drop. and right now the only thing thats stopping ppl from buying a ps3 is the price. and the lack of games. SunLord592let look back at the ps2 it was bashed so much and people said it would not last. look into the future it broke the record of most sold in all of time. ok let look at the 360 6 months back (Pre-gears) no one really wanted it and it was even on amazon for $100 ea now look once the new batch of games came out it started selling more.
How many people bought Sega Genesis bought Saturn? Bought Dreamcast?
SNES the godliest console to grace this earth, how many did N64 have again?
It may or may not happen.

How you figured the Xbox 360 controller was now designed to handle an RPG is beyond me.
You'd think that most SNES owners would get a N64....but alas.goblaaWell if you want to look to the past to predict the future, look at what happened with ps1 and ps2.
You disagree with this concept and then state you will be getting a PS3 in 2008? lolOdd.
I own over 100 games for the PSX and PS2 each, and I have sadly have no interest in the PS3 until mid 2008 some time. I don't think the transfer consumer idea is fully supported. Nintendo is a great example of this concept not working.
With this mentality one would essentially be saying Sony will always be on top, which is rather foolish IMHO.

I'm also getting a Wii because earlier I used to own a Gamecube and I was satisfied with it and Metriod Prime. I stay true to the companies I like because my favorite franchises are on them. Plus I currently own a PS1, PS2, and PSP so it makes sense for me to get a PS3 if I was satisfied with all three of those systems.
