Novint falcon (http://home.novint.com/)

Yep this device looks cool and with a deal struck with Valve and EA all the games will support this device.

Its basically is a full force feedback device that replaces the mouse. And you don't lose accuracy.

check out a preview a g4tv

The mouse, simple as it is, is probably still MORE accurate anyway.

I saw this mentioned in a magazine a while ago, it was just a quick mention from at some games dev event, looks pretty cool not sure how quick or accurate it'll be moving that gun about, could be fun for singleplayer but I still think most players will use mice online.

Why should people buy this?

We do not lose nor gain accuracy and its alot more expensive than a mouse.

see it the way you need to use it. you always need to face the screen not be ab;e to adjust you sitting when your playing for hours. plus it looks expensive. with a mouse you can sit any way you want. i will never buy a controller that is made for one gene any ways. the weight of it has to be heavy because you be sliding on your nicly polished computer desk.

ow my routery phone is great it only takes 2 min to dial.

I used the device for a bit once, with Half Life 2 over at E for All last year. It was interesting I'll say that. Though, I must say it was pretty cool how it worked. Going against a wall, aiming down at the floor and other obstacles in your path, the device would give more resistance should something block your way. It had a nice feel for it, but the little ball took some getting used to to hold on to and use it's small little buttons.

No, i don't think so.

$200 for that thing, or $20 for a decent mouse? I'll stick with the mouse. Where the hell are you going to put that on your desk? It looks bulk and awkward. Is it screwed down into your desktop or does it use suction cups? I can see the gun being pulled out of the hold many times in the heat of battle.

you really need to look into gamepads they are a lot better for precise and quick controls.

Looks quite uncomfortable. Also, having forcefeedback focussed on one hand would be quite irritating. Not to mention, that would be quite clunky to have on my desk....... :|

Well I wouldn't really consider this a gamepad but I get where you're coming from. It's the difference between using a joystick and a mouse for a flightsim or using your keyboard rather than a steering wheel for a racing sim.

I have actualy used one of these and well its not easy to use at all, the impact force feedback completely messes up your next shots recoil even with a regular pistol.

Its a great idea but it wont cach on.

I'm surprised that people aren't going "old" to this, as that..... thing got a lot of publicity last year.

Now we'll see if other PC developers will actually support it.

Pfft.

Controlling things with hands is so last year.

PCG had an article on a "mind control" device a few months ago.

They could play UT3 quite well, using this device to trigger things like jumping and changing weapon.

I've seen it in motion its like a virtual mouse.

Regardless he's actually correct - this would have a confined range of motion, whereas a mouse on a large pad with high-sensitivity has a near infinite amount of scroll in any direction. The problem of joysticks is always that you get to some "edge" where the stick is pushed down all the way, and at that point control / sensitivity is gone. You lose precise extreme aiming.

How does this deal with that? Same way, it's a glorified force-feedback joystick shaped like a gun. However if we look at the actual device it's a joystick turned sideways with a gun instead of a stick. Will that be better than a mouse in terms of speed, accuracy, and precision? No. More fun? Maybe. Better? no.

looked at a couple of vids. impressive.

but the tech is more suited to replaceing the analogue sticks on a controller than a mouse. obhiously it would need a redesign to work while holding it in ure hand.

very interesting though..if i get the opportunity to try one i certinaly will....but ill stick to a mouse for now.

I'm surprised at the amount of bashing going on in this thread. I mean, yeah, it is expensive, but considering few if any of you have actually tried the thing I don't see how you can have such negative impressions of it. Are people really that attached to the mouse as an input device? After watching the videos posted my impression is that it's a cool device that I may be interested in if the price is reasonable. Especially given the more realistic physics engines being used every year I could see something like this being very popular in the future.

The mouse needs to be reinvented. This could be a good start. Can't keep using the same thing forever.
