Looks cool I guess.

But using a knife or a bazooka would feel really stupid with this.

I don't have enough room on my "desk" for this.

It is glorious. Now THAT is how you innovate. You don't take away functionality. You improve it. Bread_or_Decide

Then where's the scroll wheel?

you really need to look into gamepads they are a lot better for precise and quick controls.
PotatoSandWitch

I hope you're kidding, 'cause an analog stick isn't nearly as precise as a mouse.

[QUOTE="Dalo12345"]The mouse, simple as it is, is probably still MORE accurate anyway. :lol:Bread_or_Decide

I've seen it in motion its like a virtual mouse.

I used one at E for All playing Half life 2. It's fun, but a mouse is still easier/better to use.

So old...

It would be a great way to get haptics device into the market, though.

looked at a couple of vids. impressive.

but the tech is more suited to replaceing the analogue sticks on a controller than a mouse. obhiously it would need a redesign to work while holding it in ure hand.

very interesting though..if i get the opportunity to try one i certinaly will....but ill stick to a mouse for now.

osan0
it'd be hard to redesign it. You would still need those cables sticking to that base for the directional feedback.

why don't they just use a gun that shoots a laser at a device on the wall and then you do that

Much too expensive, but i'm willing to give it a try. I guess the next best thing in what it's trying to achieve is the pointing function of the Wiimote. Keyboard/Wiimote?

Too expensive now, but this could be up there with the Wiimote in innovation.

[QUOTE="KodiakGTS"]

I'm surprised at the amount of bashing going on in this thread. I mean, yeah, it is expensive, but considering few if any of you have actually tried the thing I don't see how you can have such negative impressions of it. Are people really that attached to the mouse as an input device? After watching the videos posted my impression is that it's a cool device that I may be interested in if the price is reasonable. Especially given the more realistic physics engines being used every year I could see something like this being very popular in the future.

Bread_or_Decide

The mouse needs to be reinvented. This could be a good start. Can't keep using the same thing forever.

i disagree on the mouse front.....i cant think of anything that could do a better job in a PC setting (on a desk basically) when it comes to games. not the wiimote and certainly not that.

however on the keyboard front.....lots of room for improvement there imho. im not sayin replace it (its very handy for shortcuts) but something to compliment it would be nice. maybe somethign like the nunchuck or perhaps a device that looks like a scroll ball but it has an analogue stick and motion sensor instead of a ball. something to make leaning and moving and ducking feel more natural and controlled in a game.

You look into it and tell it what you want it to do.

As was mentioned earlier, this device is really just a joystick turned on it's side. It's a force feedback analog with a gun on the end. It is worse than the mouse for the exact same reasons an analog stick is worse such as limited range of motion, limited speed, and preset turning rate when on the edges of the gate (ie all the way left, right, etc.). One of the main reasons the mouse is so good is because you can pick it up...

seems hard to use ... i'd rather use a mouse so i won't seem like a total noob online :P

i mean, your hand would get tired and also you wouldn't be able to keep it steady all the time...

I am the owner of a Special Edition Falcon, and it really can be a fun, unique controller for games (esp. Half Life 2, though I want to get the gun attachment to make it even better). However, in its current state, it is not up to par with mice for general use. Since the arms move in and out as well as side to side, you can think you're moving the cursor while actually doing nothing. You have to have enough desk space to keep this in the proper position for mouse use - keeping it off to the side is a good way to develop RSI or a cramped neck. In addition, since there aren't any mouse drivers available for it yet, you have to keep the NVent software open and in the background for general mouse function.

I don't think this device has any shot at displacing a mouse. This is a specialty product, made for gamers looking for something new and geeky. It would also be a great device for 3D modelers, but I'm not aware of any drivers for that use.

While I appreciate that it's innovative, and looks like it has potential, it really looks like something that will attract Jack Thompson's attention very quickly. :P

Looks incredibly uncomfortable. Where the hell can you rest your wrist while using this...oh yeah, you can't at all. Some people complained of wiimote giving them cramps. Just wait until you use this thing for awhile...

I'll get it if it becomes less expensive.
Remember those force feedback joysticks. They were so awesome, especially with that mechwarrior game or that X-Wing space sim. And this is 3d control too.

Does look very cool, the previews are damn awesome, the way it responses to different surfaces and whatnot.

Hate the gun attachment though.

Hmm, it's cheaper then I thought it would be but it's still too expensive for just games. If you already had one of those for CAD purposes, then it would be then it would be awesome to boot up HL2 an get real force feed back with it.

looks interesting... but the price tag is quite large and If this became big could you imagine the anti-violent gamers society jumping on this one with the pistol shaped controller...

p.s I know that there are many light guns(e.g Time Crisis e.t.c) but at the current time it could be interesting.

Like 3d glasses, I think this will be reserved to gimmick rather than mainstream.
