SCE Executive: 'PS4 May Not Have Better Graphics Than The PS3'

There has been a lot of talk regarding the beginning of the nextgenerationconsoles. With the PlayStation 3 nearing 5 years in the market this November, people are already talking about it's succesor the PlayStation 4.

In an interesting interview,James Armstrong, VP SCEE, (CEO SCE Spain+Portugal) had made some interesting statements about the PlayStation 4.

When asked about how Sony will accelerate plans regarding the launch of the successor to the PS3, he said:

As I said before, I think PS3 still has great life.This year inSpainwe have the foresight to sell500,000 consoles.And if true, may well become the best-selling entertainment system in our country during this 2011.In what marks the fifth year of Wii market, Nintendo has announced a new platform that will surely launch late next year.As we will see, wish them good luck.

He also thinks that Sony's next console may not have better visuals but will have a betteraccessible experience and will also betargetedtowards girls.

It's hard to say right now.I do not think we'll have a console with a lot better graphics than the PS3 currently offered.I believe the future will be to offer consumers better and more accessible experience .The aim will be to make more people enter the world of video games and try to design titles for women.

Gamingbolt said that he said "may not have better graphics", but in the quote he said "a lot better graphics" which seems different to me.

ThenGamingbolt went on to say (which makes it more difficult to understand) "I think what Armstrong meant over here is that they may not improve upon certain technicalities like resolutions and disc format, namely 1080P and Blu Ray."

I wouldn't be surprised in the least, given that development costs are expected to double next generation, and they are already killing the industry as it is.

The question would be then, why would people pay for a whole new system; to get more of the same?

Maybe the same level of graphics but a higher frame rate and more RAM?

I wouldn't be surprised. Sony tried a lot this gen, including introducing a new format, which really didn't help costs. It makes sense that they'd go for a smaller step up, rather than try and release a console that is insanely expensive.

While this is not a confirmation by any means,if it ends up being true,I wouldn´t be surprised. We already have the WiiU being apparently only a sligth improvement over the current consoles and now Sony going through a similar route as well? I´ve said this was a possibility many times before,and guys like The Steris would laugh and say that that´s just hermit´s wishfull thinking...

Yeah,let´s see how this develops.

So next Gen Playstation would be the Wii and the Wii U would be like the PS3 in terms of Specs next gen.
