I agree, as i'm sure most will. Why not release at least 120 or double at 160. I plan on buying a PS3 during there "price cut" but will not pay 100 dollars more for 1 game and 20 extra gigs.

I blame Blu-Ray for all this nonsense going on. Sony, Sony, Sony, why do feel it necessary to contradict and embarrass yourself so often? This just goes to show that Sony's gaming division DOESN'T know what the **** is going on and has simply lost touch with reality. They don't know which route to go with this overpriced system that is destroying their reputation, hence all these contradicting statements.

This David Reeves guy is quickly becoming my hero. Finally, a video game suit who refuses to toe the company line and isn't afraid to tell the truth.

All this truth telling may cost him his job, though. I wouldn't be surprised if Kaz Hirai is on the phone with him right now telling him to keep his yap shut or else.

That just cracks me up. It is not like some sales person in the Sony Europe division bashing the newest console released but the president. I swear Sony is run by monkeys.

This is really good news, that means that when the 60 gb model is sold out the 80 gb model will be the new $500.00 model and then sony will come out with probably a 160 gig model $600.00 ps3. More value for the consumers.

P.S. Remember that Sony is not short sighted and thinks long term, and is slowly looking for ways to expand the market and value of the PS3 over it's lifespan.

So Thinking longterm =

Step 1. Quabbling over how much memory the PS3 should have.

Step 2. ???

Step 3. Profit.

I don't work for sony but I am a business major, and here is my theory. Sony begins by announcing the price drop on their 60 gig PS3 and sales spike immediately, then Sony says we are now stopping production of the 60 gig PS3. Now lets think about this for a second if the 60 gig PS3 is currently the best selling console why then would they be stopping production of it? As you probably know there is the concept supply and demand. Because of the price drop and the good E3 showing the demand for the PS3 is high, and the supply of the 60gb PS3 is now decreasing which generally equates to better sales, which is what Sony is hoping is that the 60 gig PS3 will soon be sold out because people now have the fear that, "If I don't hurry and get the 60 gig ps3 for $500 now then I may never have the oppurtunity for such a value."

Which brings me to the 80 gig PS3 one of the main differences between the 80 gig and the 60 gig ps3 is the "emotion engine" Sony didn't include it with the new version of the PS3 because they wanted to save money on manufacturing costs. The manufacturing costs of 20 gigs of hard drive spice is peanuts. In other words even though there is a 20 gig difference the new 80 gig ps3 may be cheaper or have roughly the same manufacturing cost as the 60 gig PS3 because it does not include the emotion engine.

Now back to the 60 gig ps3 not being in production. Once the mass hysteria and confusion has ended and all the 60 gig ps3s have been sold, it is then likely that Sony will want to continue to ride the wave of success of sales of their 60 gig ps3 and say we will now be dropping the price of the 80 gig model PS3 $100 which will probably result in another immediate spike of sales for the PS3, and then Sony like the TC said will probably roll out the new and improved PS3 with the much larger HDD.

But if Sony is already in talks about raising the memory again, won't that affect the sales of the 80 gig? Who would buy the 80 gig at $600 if Sony has stated it's going to be replaced- for likely the same price.

 Yea, because I just LOVE Microsoft. Check my posting history and get your facts straight buddy. Just two days ago I was ecstatic that Killzone 2 lived up to expectations, that UT3 and Haze were coming exclusively to PS3 this year....

Sony as a company focusing entirely on the 80Gb versions of PS3 after the 60gb's are sold out from the shelves. Then this guy coming on and saying that 20 extra gb's is not enough, contradicting his own companies "business strategy." You don't see a contradiction in that?

He is just saying maybe it will happen because he does not think 80gb is enough of a change.

They're probably just trying to clear out the extra hard drives they had from all the Vaios. 60 GB hard drives don't come in lap tops any more, so they had to do something with them. 80 GB hard drives aren't common anymore either.

Well when you have to save 3gb's of a game just to get it to run properly so you can brag and down other dev's * cough* Team Ninja*cough*, No But really games that require you to store GB's worth of data for each of them will eat your memory. Its funny cause the 360 doesnt do that. Infact the 120gig HDD from MS is a great Idea. Ms needs to include a 10gb with the Core unit starting this Xmas. Give free 10 gig HDD to all previous Core 360 buyers. Then all 360's would have a HDD That would get sony to up the PS3 to a 160 gig. Then We would have a freakin BluRay player with a 160gb HDD. Can you imagine.
