Using low poly and low detail crowds is still very common in racing games. I doubt they will be that much better in Driveclub. They're meant to be seen from a distance only.

No. Not at all. Stop being ignorant of basics of LoDing. Real time graphics, even on the most powerful of PCs, are nothing but tricks to make it look good. Remove detail from unimportant objects that are not the focus and put it on the focus. This is standard practices, this is exactly what is accepted and what has been accepted for the past 30 years. You can't change that.

The passing crowd is there for immersion as you're driving, not for you to stop and look at their detail. It's about setting the scene and building up the atmosphere of the game. You're being ignorant of both tech and basic video game design at this point. Extremely ignorant.

The ones in driveclub use more polygons than cars in PCars!1 And have sub surface scattering and every single human is different. One eye ball in DC crowd member has more polys than these crouds. OUCH!1
They actually use realtime ray tracing to acurately simulate the reflections in the eyeballs of the people in the crowd, as well as tressFX to simulate realistic hair movement. The game drops to 1 frame per minute each time you pass a crowd, but it's worth it
I don't see any point in this being something to be made fun of. Play any sports game and you'll see that the crowds in them are probably just as bad as this. Its something you really don't pay that much attention to in these types of games. The only game/s I see the crowd needing a bump in the graphics dept. is maybe wrestling since you can go out near were the crowd is. But still that wouldn't be a a major problem as you would be focused on the game more than the crowd.
