Look at Apple. Consumers are, by and large, ignorant. Furthermore, Alienware is owned by Dell... Yeah.

if they're selling things that are overpriced, that people are buying. Then they make a profit. Also Alienware is part of Dell

They're shiny looking They have a brand that people recognize and it's in a lot of shows (Like Big Bang Theory that faux nerds watch and in turn buy the machines) They're expensive so naturally a consumer assumes it's good. People are stupid, etc.

Their desktops are a huge waste of money, but their laptops are pretty high performing (albeit expensive). My biggest issue with their laptops, however, is that they are bricks. The 17" Haswell model -still- weights 10lbs plus power brick. Instead of using the new technology to try to reduce the footprint of the laptops they did what they always do and crammed as much fast hardware in as they could. While some people will still want that, I'm pretty much over the idea of carrying 30lbs of equipment on my back when I travel.

people should not buy alienware. they are overpriced here in norway too. I buy my pc from a different vendor. someone who actually takes pre built gamers seriously, and dont mistake us for uninformed casual gamers just because we dont build our own computers.

Good or bad, it's one of the most single recognizable brand names in terms of gaming PCs. Regardless of anyone's opinion about their quality relative to their price, if you ask a non-gamer about a "gaming PC brand", they will probably say Alienware. That sort of name recognition goes a long way with the lay-person.

I have no idea how. I could buy all the PC part online and then pay a computer store $150-200 to assemble it and still save a ton of money over alienware (all while getting better quality parts).

People who want PC gaming without the work? Luckily I'm just cheap enough not to fall for it, and will probably build a rig...even if I had to get Bpoole to pick the parts XD

i recommend to everyone who wants a PC of that price range to just build their own. it's MUCH cheaper and it will perform better suited toward your needs.

It's usually that they can't afford a gaming Pc and just play with the console their parents or guardian gave them or they bought a used console and are living with it.

Gaming pcs need to come down in prices. Just because a pc can produce a slightly better coat of paint on a game doesn't equate to charging over $1000 for some pc parts. Further companies have been making pc parts for years and cost of manufacturing should only cost a fraction today of what it cost 20 or 30 years ago.

1)Dell owns them (even though Dell aint what it used to be) 2)Some people don't feel like building a rig and have the money to spend extra to have someone do it for them 3)for what it's worth they do have name recognition and are an established brand in the industry. Personally I wouldn't get one because I know how to build my own rig. But even if I was to buy a rig there are other businesses to buy from that offer cheaper prices for the same or better performance.

You said it yourself.  Their computers are overpriced, which gives them high profit margins.  :|  They aren't living off the tight margins that define most PC OEMs.

Alienware isn't for me, but they serve a niche and have pretty decent general brand awareness considering.  Never understood the hate for them.  It's an overpriced avenue to higher end PC gaming, but it still gets people playing, and most Alienware customers don't seem to mind the premium price.

just not sure why you would care? how many things are over priced in our daily lives? so someone wants to buy one..who cares? people that buy 30k + cars are ignorant to me. People that buy pants over 30$ are dumb, shirts over 20$, fake hair,nails,boobs,ect..TONS of things are bought that I dont agree with. BUT its not my place to tell someone what they should or should not buy..
