Seriously, the obsession with graphics must stop

There are many good looking games, no one will ever agree which is the best looking and honestly, who cares. If it looks nice and is fun to play, sweet, go play it. But honestly, how many "CONSOLE GRAPHICS KING" or "UNCHARTED 2 CONSOLE GRAPHICS KING" threads can we possibly get. The horse is officially beaten, dead, in chunks, rotting and smelly. Stop.

How about Uncharted 2 will be awesome because of the actual GAMEPLAY, story, added MP, firefight/horde like mode, etc. Well I have said my piece, not that it will stop any of these threads since Im sure 10 of them are brewing at the moment.

If graphics didn't matter, no one would buy any next gen consoles. Graphics do matter, because that's the only reason new consoles come out. Update in tech.

But if we don't argue about graphics, that means we might actually have to argue about *gulp*...gameplay.

Since no one has the time to figure out second, third, etc., we just assume all PC games look better than console games and skip ahead to which console game has the best graphics. :P

If graphics didn't matter, no one would buy any next gen consoles. Graphics do matter, because that's the only reason new consoles come out. Update in tech.

While it is true that gameplay is more important than graphics, graphics have always been a selling point.

Graphics is a given this gen, not an expectation.

We shouldn't be arguing about games in the first place. In SW we tend to judge games based on totally different games, Ex. CODMW2 and Uncharted 2. I would rather we judge a game based on its own merits but then judging a game on its own merits is opinion and opinion means **** in SW.

Graphics do matter but i prefer fun factor and good gameplay any time!

Graphics and modern processing allow developers to do much more than you think with video games. They have become more and more apart of the gameplay in ways that may not be so obvious.

after playing crysis on very high setting i really don't care much about graphics anymore. also i agree alot of ppl care about graphics on console there are improvement but they are very minor improvement nothing revolutionary.

True, but there's a limit on how much you can tap out of a system. For debate purposes, we always assume that today, some developer has managed to use a system to it's full extent. Keeps things interesting..

This is System Wars. Nobody wants to wait 5 years to prove something. We want to prove things as soon as possible.

Graphics King threads are here because graphics is probably the least subjective part of gaming and people like to compare. Not to mention the fact that most of the gaming talk is about games that aren't released which means gameplay talk is out. I think your a little late when it comes to crying about the graphics king threads. PC guys are to blame aswell with the Crysis picture dump threads where they show 50 pictures of environments, faces over and over again. I believe they sort of started it all but Geow helped fuel the fire; and they fueled it with a 10 gallon tank of gas.

THIS. For example: You don't make a Prince of Persia Trilogy with great environments, good difficulty with a learning curve, and expressive combat to just Prince of Persia with pretty graphics, crap story, repetitive gameplay, and never being able to die???

Its games like these that make me think this Gen actually stepped back alittle. The devs are just playing with the system and seeing what their doing with it. The problem is they slap a 60$ tag on it.

the highlighted isn't quite true. look at the chronicles of riddick. also, all 3 console makers (except nintendo this gen) market the latest console by showing off the new graphics first, then they talk about new features and hardware.

it is true but what is also true is that because of the new hardware and the advancements they bring, development costs rise. to keep the costs lower, they don't fully utilize the hardware.

I think we're getting to the point where the graphics are getting so good, they're becoming part of the gameplay itself. Look at Skate(the physics) and Crysis and you'll see what I mean.

That is not to say Halo 3 is a bad game, but past graphics you could almost play the same game on the Xbox. HarlockJC

The things I am excited about in terms of graphics is NOT how good a game looks, but how good a game intereacts. Physics and AI can only get better with new tech, and why I think graphics are important. I mean, compare Call of Duty 4, with its static enviornment and inpenitrable wooden boxes to Crysis, where wooden boxes can be destroyed, which makes running for cover intesne.

Physics definitely makes an impact on how the game is played, and next gen is going to be fantastic because of the graphical enhancements.
