Everyday is a bit exaggerated, but they don't have a good track record on firmware updates recently. I remember when 3.0 had the bricking problem if you had the game set to autoplay.

Although they may be optional, I feel a need to log into PSN at sometime.

""Slow downloads from PSN are a popular topic these days. My service is through Comcast, I think 12 Mbps as my desktop computer can pull about 1.4 MBps. The PS3, with default connection settings (no proxy) only manages *maybe* 100 KBps when downloading from the store.""

the fact you have to set up a proxy because of Ps3 problems, and the locations of playstation 3 servers for store content aren't very well established around the world is just freaking sad.

P.S: I think you got it wrong, his connection isn't 2.5mbps, the ps3 is only downloading at 2.5mbps.

Dont really know what the op is on about but those updates are painfully slow and annoying. I use to wonder why some referred the ps3 as patch station 3.

I don't see this personally. I have no problems with their security, no problems with their system and the downloads are as frequent as my X360 or PC. At least PC and PS3 allow you to schedule them!

But at least SONY should stop forcing mandatory updates to gamers because it is realy annoying when someone is realy in a high mood to play a game & the next thing a mandatory UPDATE pops up.Most of the updates are not even realy important to some people hence they'll still get a HDD error for stupid updates.

Idk what everyone's deal is with slow PSN downloads. It's never been a problem for me. My laptop runs at about 20 MB/s down and 4 MB/s up and my PSN download speeds aren't much different.

Idk I haven't had much trouble. I'm normally at a minimum of 10MB/s so downloads don't seem to take that long. I'm not sure what speeds XBL goes at

love how its blown out the water.Mines only takes bout 10min tops to dl the patch and then another 5 to install it.Neither does it bother me cause i just go for a shower, tidy up a little bit or do some other task rather than staring at a loading bar.

Don't know what to tell you. I get great speeds on psn, so I'm going to say ignorance of how to set up a network is likely to blame. It sucks, but that's the way networks work. I've heard of people getting good speeds on psn and bad speeds on 360, it's all how the network is set up.

Nothing has happened to mine so I'm fine. So what if it downloads slow. Would you rather have it not downloading anything at all? Being able to download fast would be nice but as long as it can download, I'm good.

No, it's a coincidence I think. especially since it's known that if you turn off the system during an update problems will occur. I bet a lot of people break their systems while updating and try to blame the update.

At least the 360 does not have firmware updates that breaks the console like the PS3 updates. And most things in 360 are optional like some updates & games installation to HDD unlike the PS3 forces mandatory updates that breaks the console's HDD & mandatory game installation.

Its a bit strange though, don't these things auto set-up? 360 isn't perfect either, while mine is fast and within tolerence, it's still not as fast as my computer. It would bother me, but on the 360 you can just download and do other things at the same time.

And the X360 had just as manyissues with firmware updates. The only console I believe that hasn't had that many issues is the Wii although look at the hardware, the more complex the more problems you are bound to have.

I think its quite crazy, Ive never had to update the firmware on anything for my pc. Updating firmware for a gaming console is a terrible idea.

The PS3 download speeds have always been slow. Get over it and adjust. If you want something, a movie, DLC, etc., just start the download and go do something else. Or start it before you go to work and it's done when you get home. I agree, it's frustrating, but adapt. It's the way of life, adapt or die.

A firmware update for a console is the same as a patch for your OS. Think before you speak.

seriously, my updates for my pc (either xp or windows 7) take about the same time to download with a compairable size as my playstation updates take, a few minutes discrepancy sure but still comparable, and im using my neighbors wifi so my connection is not good to begin with ( i get around 1.5 to 2 MB/s depending on where my ps is)
