I know a lot of people joke about how PS3 owners dont buy games but on a serious note.. Why arent PS3 owners buying games. I mean for the love of God, a game that is so amazing like COD4 didnt even sell 500,000 units in its first month, and uncharted only selling 120,000 units?! I own both a 360 and PS3 and i actually buy games if they are good. Infact i own more PS3 games then i do 360 games.. For my PS3 i own COD4, Warhawk,UT3,Uncharted, Guitar Hero 3 and ratchet and clank and for 360 I own Bioshock, Halo 3 and Gears.. So why is it like pulling teeth for PS3 owners to buy games, even COD4 didnt have that great of sales on the PS3ChristopherM80
Yea i find it disturbing that new PS3 owners are buying motorstorm and resistance over Ratchet and Uncharted...
If the poor game sales continues for sony then u can say good bye to all your third party exclusives. Sony is gonna lose to xbox 360.

that's really probably it.
360s are bought up by college kids and parents who's kids want to play Halo 3.
PS3s are more expensive, and with the lack of big name titles, i would imagine alot of older people getting PS3s as a blu-ray player.

I don't know if you're trying to be sarcastic, but im a major in business and it doesn't take an idiot to predict sony will fail with the horrendous game sales . Software is where they make their money and developers will make exclusives multiplat to expand their market. Look at capcom and square enix.

The Wii and PS3's overall software sales are flopping. The PS3 has yet to have a huge seller. Both Motorstorm and Resistance took forever to reach a million, while 360 games reach a million in a week. 98% of Wii titles aren't selling either. The only place that developers and publishers profit from is the Xbox 360. Wii owners better start buying 3rd party titles and PS3 owners better start buying games. Unless they do want to give the Xbox 360 the best games.BioShockOwnz
I think with the Wii the problem lies in the software itself. The games it receives are generally less then stellar. I mean what was the premier exclusive third party game last month? Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles? That saying those games in general are selling decently along with Guitar Hero III known to be the "surprise hit" of the year. However in terms of AA-AAA production games I'm not sure how the Wii will perform since we haven't seen a game like that hit since......Red Steel?
In terms of the PS3 I think it falls into the same problem the PSP is in. People see it more as a multi-media player then a gaming console. Isn't it alittle odd that PS3's take up around 1/4th (so I've heard) and Blu-Ray software sales are eclipsing HD-DVD?

Yea.
It's an expensive and under-delevering thing as a gaming machine.
But it's a cheap and good bluray-player.

Stop worrying about game sales. The sources we have that guesstimate how many games are sold are poor at most. NPD only tells us what is sold in the U.S. which are the numbers you are quoting. That might represent the 360 fanbase well because 70% of the 360s are sold here but the Wii and the PS3 have somewhere around 45% of thier fanbase in N.A. meaning there is a whopping 55% of the fanbase's sales not accounted for by using NPD. Not to mention even NPD doesnt count Amazon and other websites as well as some big chains like Walmart.
I mean heck, according to VGchartz which is also a crap source COD4 has sold around 950K on the PS3 totaling up all the regions. Stop jumping to conclusions with the poor guesstimates we have. We dont have enough info to determine how much games are selling

Square has always tried to reach more audienes -- but something tells me they arnt going to delay FFXIII to 2012 to remake it for the Xbox360 because Ratchet and Clank didn't sell as well as expected. Same goes for GT5 and MGS4. These are the kind of games that people not only buy, but also get systems for.
Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty 4 both have like half a milllion copies for PS3 sold. The Xbox360 has double that amount (maybe because of it having twice the userbase that came with it's 1 year headstart?)
The point is, the PS3 is flopping in software sales because the software is crap. It's still in its first year and it has been $600 for most of that time. Well PS3 is having a big holiday season now and games like Ratchet and Uncharted are games with legs and I can imagine them selling steadily for the next few months.
Keep in mind that PS3 still has no well established franchises out, while the 360 has already used allof its franchises save for Fable.
Could we see more multiplat support? Of course, games are expensive to make. Are games like GT5, FFXIII, and MGS4 going to be remade for the 360? Something tells me (oh i dont know -- history?) that these games don't need mutiple consoles to become some of the best sellers of this gen.
And DMC4 selling well on the 360? Oh we'll see how that turns out...
In proportion to the 360 community, COD4 sold okay on the PS3. It's games like Uncharted that you should worry about.Xolver
Call of Duty 4 PS3 sold half as much as the 360 version.
Half the userbase = half the sales. Connect the dots.
Same thing with Assassin's Creed.

Final Fantasy XIII won't go to the Xbox 360, but with Square Enix saying they want to increase their user base in NA and Europe. they'll have to start making franchises for the Xbox 360. Something like Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles for the Wii, except more fitting for the Xbox fanbase, something more action oriented.
Also they should start making certain franchises multiplatform like with The Last Remnant if they're serious about what they're saying.
US, September 28, 2007 - Yoichi Wada, President of Square Enix, has issued a statement clarifying some comments his executives have made recently about the company's plans to expand its overseas operations. The Japanese company, known primarily for the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest franchises, currently earns half its revenue from areas outside Japan. But Wada says the overseas markets have increased to more than three times the size of the Japanese market, and Square Enix aims to amplify its presence in these territories accordingly.
"It is crucial for us to expand our businesses on a global basis," said Wada. "Given the fact that the size of overseas markets is now more than three times as large as the domestic market, we recognize numerous growth opportunities."
Yoichi Wada, President of Square EnixSquare Enix has two strategies planned to seize these opportunities. First, the company will strengthen its distribution channels through local subsidiaries in each area. Also, Wada says Square Enix must diversify its game offerings to suit local tastes around the world.
"Through these strategic initiatives, our initial goal within a time frame of three to five years is to raise our foreign sales ratio for console/handheld games from its current 50% level to approximately 75%. We shall continue our effort to better serve
It's not actually that hard, for third-party games at least. The percentage of PS3 owners buying games like Assassins Creed, Rock Band and COD4 is nearly on par with the Xbox 360. It's just that the install base of the PS3 is so painfully low right now in comparison to the 360, which had a year head start. In the US, there are 3x the number of 360s, so it makes sense that the games are selling 3x as much.
First-party is a different matter though, since they take so ****ing long to get good sales. Resistance sold over 2 million and MotorStorm sold over 1 million, but it took a whole year and bundling the games with the console to pull that off. Ratchet, Uncharted and Heavenly Sword will probably perform the same in time, but you have to start asking if Sony will make as much money by playing the slow and steady game. It's really unimpressive from a PS3 owner's perspective when Mass Effect, a game people expected to flop commercially, outsells more than three of Sony's first-party games combined.

It's because about 20% of the people who are buying the PS3, are buying it strickly as a Blu-Ray player. This is happening even more in Europe. They love Blu-Ray movies out there.
Some original games might help, too many of the PS3 releases are either rip offs of other games that have been out for ages, or second rates sequels to PS2 games with added shiny graphics, some can be completed in a days play.
Take Uncharted, if you wanted to play that sort of game you'd either already have Tomb Riader or Gears of War, if you wanted to play Ratchet & Clank there are 3 previous instalments on the PS2 for half the price and just as much fun, Lair..... lets not go there shall we...
The PS3 library is getting bigger but there still isn't a stand out product that makes buying one worthwhile, and its almost a certainty that most of the big 2008 games will be delayed again and again...

Every post i see, you`re always on ps3 side, i wanna see if you really have a xbl account , post your gamertag, if your scared because a little dust went into your 360, you really should consider selling it then.Call of Duty 4 and Assassins Creed on the PS3 have almost sold 1 million units each. /threadTruth-slayerProof or you fail.
This is just speculation, because on the whole I like a lot more of the Wii's 1 mill. sellers than those for the 360 or PS3, but Someone mentioned how short the PS3 games from Sony are. I think That might be a big part of it. I don't play online at al all, but based on the way people respond around here, it can make or break a game. HS, Uncharted and R&C are all single player for the most part. I also think this might have a bit to do with why they are slower more staedy sellers.
I could be wrong, but Iwould imagine that a game where multiplayer online is the primary draw gets the biggest sales early on and quickly, then falls off. Why? People want to play when the game is hot and a lot of people are online. This means before everyone moves on to the next hot online game. Also you're showing off online, you want to win, which is easier when everyone is starting out at the same time. It's harder to own someone at a game they've owned for 3 months that you've had for a week.
Again, YMMV

You do realize that CoD4 selling 440,000 in November means that 1 out of every ~5 PS3 owners bought that game in the first month of it being out right? That's damn good...
I have a friend who just bought a PS3 last month and already owns 5 games. I've owned a PS3 for a while now and own 15, so much for us not buying games eh? Just because the PS3 doesn't dominate the top 10 monthly sales charts for the US only means that there are far fewer of us in the US who own a PS3, which we already KNEW.

Expect CoD4 to have sold a million on the PS3 worldwide by now, just like AC has sold a million ww on the PS3 already.
I only have 4 PS3 games:
- Resistance
- Oblivion
- Ratchet & Clank
- Ninja Gaiden Sigma
My next two games are gonna be UT3 and GT5 Prologue. I think I am just gonna order the Japanese version since the US version of GT5P has been deleayed to February 19. :?Rikusaki
