Shadow of the Colossus is an extremely overrated video game.

I picked it up the other day because it's supposedly amazing, here is what I see: horrid framerate, mucky graphics, crappy controls, fantastic music, boring world (largely cause of the color layout), horse is a pain in the arse to control, etc. I don't see how this game got great reviews, sure the colossi are fun, but it's meh. I'm a little more than half way through the game and while it gets good at certain parts, the whole package isn't as great as the reviewers said it was. I have ICO and never played it, I'll get around to that one when I feel like it.

As much as I disagree with it, you're entitled to your opinion.

And btw, people here hold it at a higher standard than critics, the game is just awesome.

I remember when SW was fun an unique and good for a few laughs but those day are sadly over.

I think it's an awesome game but it is probably a little overrated, the controls aren't very good, particularly when fighting the last colossi and I felt the ending was just weird but maybe there was something lost in translation.

The battles with MOST of the colossi though were some of the most amazing experience I've ever had in a video game apart from a couple which just didn't live up to the others or were just not fun.

It's certainly unique. Its unorthodox presentation was wngaging to the point where it kept me playing. But I never understood why people thought it was something to write home about.

It always seemed as though people praised it for being different, as if tokenly braking conventional gaming barriers somehow earned it instaneous acclaim (see also: PoP: SoT). That's rather stupid.

It has awesome graphics.

Certain games you have to play during the period of their release to see how wonderful they were. My favorite games of all time super metroid, castlevania symphony of tthe night, final fantasy 7. Had i never played those games before and played them now would of rated them much different. Shadow of colossus was a beautiful game, not perfect but uniquely designed and executed. As far as I'm concerned it was underrated. I could care less what anyone thinks of this game if they never played it within 2years of its release.

Well I am sure your graphic issues are due to current games and that is understandable, the horse controls like a real horse and has alot of personality no other game has shown in an animal companion, no framerate problems that I remember?, and controls are a little weird but not horrible.wooooode

I wouldn't call it a problem, but framerate did tend to drop a little. Other than that, no complaints about this game at all.

Some people like playing games with a difference, games that challenge their perspective of what video games are and should be. Some people like games that make you think or evoke strong emotions...

...and some people like playing Halo. :roll:

the game was outstanding when it came out but it did not age well at all(unlike god of war2 which is to this day an AAA game).i played shadow of colossus recently and it felt like an outdated piece of crap, but when it was released it truely had me amazed.

Maybe if played at the time of its release you might have enjoyed it more? I mean come on doesn't any here find it a bit harsh or unfair that he's saying that a 3-4 year old game is bad when he's probably comparing to new release games of 2009? Or is it just me?

I agree. It isn't a bad game, but cows treat it like it was the second coming.

i was playing shadow of the colossus recently and having so much fun. the art style still holds up so well, and its just really fun to explore this barren world. i remember after i beat the fourth colossus i said i would stop, but then i thought, hmm lets just check the area of the fifth colossus and save it, about 30 minutes later i ended up killing the fifth colossus.Its incredibly addicting to seek out the next colossus.

we SOTC fans cannot pretend that everyone will like this awesome game... People have different tastes...

However i really hope more original titles like SOTC get released more often... Cant wait for the Last Guardian:)

i agree. I think its highly overrated, although i only spend 30 minutes with it cause it really bored me. i found the controls to be odd also. However, that was ~8 (?) years ago. lhughey

So your saying its got bad graphics, a last gen game... After having spent 3 years getting used to this gens graphics???

I noticed another game that has "mucky graphics and crappy controls" - Zelda:OoT. I can't believe anyone could play a game with such jaggy graphics. Everything looks so last, last, last gen. Come to think of it that FF7 game everyone raves about has some really mucky graphics too. What's up with that? And you know, if you think about it, the first Halo's graphics aren't that great either. How could anyone ever enjoy those games? Why did these games get great reviews? It's a mystery.

On a more serious note, OP if you are the type of gamer who couldn't enjoy the experience of SotC because its graphics and controls are last gen, then I guarantee that you won't enjoy Ico, so don't bother dusting it off your shelf.

It's not as great as everyone says. The gameplay really isn't all that compelling.
