Shadow of tomb raider worth a buy review

I only played through Uncharted 2, and a small bit of Uncharted 1. The stories in all of them suck, but I will say that the gameplay in the Tomb Raider games are definitely better than Uncharted 2.

Dumbest shit I've heard all day. UC1 is actually the worst in the series.

UC2>UC4>UC3>UC1.

Uncharted started out as a mix of early TR and Indiana Jones then got better than TR.

TR reboots are clones of the Uncharted games.

I have that same feeling sadly. The devs don't seem to know what they want to do with Lara.

All I can say that early Tomb raider games would not become popular nor become praised so much if they had male protagonist. because those games were terrible in literally every way. the controls suck, combat suck, camera suck. theres some puzzle solving here and there. but overall those games were unplayable.

It's mostly built for fans of the series, anyway. Which many haters might consider that the games never had much soul in the first place but I think it's about as good as it should be.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider doesn't do much new but it knows its strengths and capitalizes on them. Less firefights and more exploration, puzzles, traps and collectables. You gotta be a Tomb Raider fan to really appreciate its value.

From what I've watched on YouTube it definitely looks worth a pick up. It looks more exploration and less action but itay pick up later in the game. I will eventually pick it up but when the price drops which I can see being dropped in a month or so.

Any review that says this game is like the others and is same and nothing new need to be disregarded for sake of the audience. I would love it if this game were like the others, it is not, they introduce all kinds of combat mechanics but rarely is there ever a chance to use them, that's a start. Skill trees never feel like they open the game up to be played in new ways or give players new ways to tackle the games challenges or explore to any significant degree. These are things the previous two did and did much better, but Shadow really dropped the ball on. I'd also say the first two games handled hunting and crafting better, here it just feels like pointless padding. That being said, story is better than RotTR, technically the game looks good. I hope DLC fixes lack of combat content.

All that being said I am still moderately enjoying it as I near the end hoping things pick up. But yeah, these I feel need to be the criticisms people who want to shit on the game need to pursue, because going the cheap critic route of "same game, doesn't do anything new" is a major disservice to the community.

while these youtubers can easily criticize AAA games because they know they will not lose thier jobs, and they are more experts on video games than someone like adam sesslers.

mack is expert on video games. only he has guts to say how casual tomb raider or AAA cinematic gaming are. most of professional sites and big media cannot.

It's more Uncharted that is a clone of old Tomb Raider, but for babies. Remember when you needed a bit of skill to play Tomb Raider? That was fun. Then Uncharted came and sucked, but sold. Then they decided they can make TR suck and sell as well, and it sadly worked.

I can't comment on the game one way or the other but WaB is a troll. Stop linking these videos like they matter in any way.

I didn't like Rise as much as 2013 one. This one looks slower paced and darker, which I normally prefer. Getting this later this week. Expecting it to like more than Rise.

I think it's excellent so far, in fact I think most of the TR reboots are some of the best games this gen.

Tomb raider became uncharted before unchared actually exist. remember TR legends. this is what make series more cinematic and checkpoint driven.

I'll trust nepu over WAB. But I do see some of the issues WAB is pointing out. Previous Tomb Raiders also had most of these issues. (Silly traversal, shoddy A.I. resulting in meh combat and bad stealth.) Can still be fun though, but I think I get WAB's frustration that this is considered fine by some reviewers.

Yeah I think I ran into an issue like that already with the A.I. . I was spotted by some combatants and they were opening fire on me. What must have been about 20m away were two of their friends just having a normal conversation like nothing was happening, so while I'm sitting in the bushes firing arrows at some dudes, enemy gunshots going off, these guys who must have been not even a stone's throw away were just shootin' the shit like nothing was happening LOL.

I loved the 2013 reboot, but there was a point at the end where it was just shootout after shootout, it was pretty bad.

Rise offered more freedom I found.

Doesn't run the best. It looks great, but I'm only getting 50 fps on average at the settings I'm at, which is mostly high versus ultra settings; had to lower a few settings and turn a couple things off. Can't wait for that 2080 Ti. Lol

You judge games based on story?

Story matters. especially in third person games.

True. It gives you motivation to keep playing them. Without story it feels like you're just going through the motions especially when the game has no worthwhile multiplayer.

This thread proves that, when people don't have any better options, they'll play anything considered AAA even if it's tripe.

Review confirmes:

• It's the same old Uncharted formula (which people supposedly hate, lies or butthurt I guess) only DUMB DOWN as for gamers are too stupid to think on their own.
• It has AUTO-climing and fail safe float jumping.
• SUPER stupid AI that people claim to hate.
• Shit boring story.
• Only 15hr story (God of war was 35hrs BEFORE side missions and was called a one and done, yet this is HALF that lol yet desperate hermits and lems are Day 1ing this trash lol!) single player game!
• Combat is shit, one button kills LMAO.

So once again, we see the people who appear to be the most critical and harsh on game quality (I.E the fanboys who hate on Sony exclusives) actually have the lowest standards for the games they buy.

To be fair this is the only AAA caliber game hermits are going to get this year so they don't have any other options for blockbuster games, at least lems could wait for RDR2.

Didn't really put Hitman in that AAA realm that Tomb Raider is supposed to be in, it's more of an AA. But that's fine because AA's can be high quality productions too, similar to games like Yakuza, Gravity Rush and MLB The Show.

That said, I'm sure Hitman would be better than this Tomb Raider trash people are happily dropping $60 for.

It's just crazy how so many people here are so hard up for AAA blockbuster games that they'll day 1 for a, "15hr one and done" single player game that, aside from graphics, looks like bargain bin material in quality at best.

Hitman is AAA franchise. its just become indie because of developers split.

I'm about 7 hours in and I'm really enjoying this for some reason, a lot more than I expected. I really dig the setting (probably in part because I've visited the Peruvian amazon), the pacing has been good so far, and I'm inexplicably enjoying all the platforming/puzzle sections even though I tend to lose patience with stuff like that in these games.

really loving the horror-game vibe that starts to creep in as you progress, TR2013 had this as well but ROTR didn't. this one just has a cool jungle-nightmare atmosphere that has me hooked

the story cutscenes are the only thing I'm not liking so far, they are pretty boring

if it continues as it has, this could end up being my favorite of the trilogy

AAA is more scale of the budget. Hitman is AA bro.

Nothing wrong with that but it's not on the same level as an Uncharted and Tomb Raider or even recent AssCreed budget wise.

AAA are typically humongous budget wise.

But like I said, AAA or AA doesn't indicate the quality of the individual title. And AA can have higher quality than an AAA just like an indie game could be better than an AAA.

Quality of the product is what matters in the end and SOTTR seems to be the scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as AAA goes.

I'd buy AA Fist of the North Star FULL PRICE before I'd even buy Tomb Raiders stale formula at half price.
