Shadow Warrior 2 Now Available. Reviews are in. Updated

The sprint mechanic is only used to get to places faster.

In combat, it uses Shift+a/s/d/w quick dodge (as opposed to double tap of the first game) with no stamina, meaning it, along with a double jump can be used constantly. It's much faster than Doom, and pretty much any recent FPS for that matter.

Although I agree, much like the first game, iron-sights is pointless, seems put in for the sake of it.

Shadow Warrior 2 is currently PC Exclusives, so seems like it's more PC centric.

On serious note: Shadow Warrior 2 is going for different style of gameplay. Doom is about speed and killing your foes from distance. Melee sucks. Shadow Warrior 2 just like the previous one is more about close and personal combat.

Instead of fast run n gun, it gives you ability to dodge as well as several melee moves. It encourages you take fight to your enemy's doorstep. Iron sight is just there as an afterthought or to help you to snipe your enemies since there is Stealth mechanic in the game this time around as well.

It allows you to make first move (think about standing on top of the building and taking shots at enemies unaware of your presence). Both Doom and Shadow Warrior are going for different kind of combat. It has nothing to do with being PC or Console centric.

none of them are console centric. Doom on console is slower like E3 footage. maybe little faster because that version was so slow it turn off many gamers.

ID software suck at making console games. proof of it is Rage and early doom 4. thus they back to roots and also making Quake champions as PC exclusive MP game.

@uninspiredcup: Cool.....I remember that movie with Kurt Russel. If you're not familiar with any of the inspirations of the game, you'll probably miss out on some of its charm....this could go over the head of some reviewers I would think.

Should I play the first Shadow Warrior? I'm hearing mixed things. I want to play the first one, before I go to the second.

To be fair, the story is pretty meh. The characters are boring to listen to for the most part. I found myself just skipping a lot of the dialogue.

It's quite a bit different in Shadow Warrior 2. There aren't "infinite" guns. You get most of the same guns as everyone else, and then you can add gems to them to upgrade them to different types. Although, sometimes you and co-op buddies will get different weapons as drops, but it's not that common so far.

Also, the gameplay is actually good in Shadow Warrior 2, whereas it's just crap in Borderlands games.

Melee weapons are fairly common, and every weapon has completely different fighting tactics, unlike Borderlands.

Gunplay was also crap in previous shadow warrior. it apears that they greatly improved it.

btw i dont really like talking demon characters with horns on face. I prefer sci fi universe of Doom over kind of fantasy style universe of shadow warrior.

I wouldn't say Borderlands is crap per say, it's just overly streamlined.

All the RPG elements basically amount to "tap button for power" as as mentioned, all the billions of weapons, feel almost the exact same.

If it was a 5-6 hour game it might get away with it, but you're expected to play for 50+

Story was enjoyable and characters were funny. Gameplay was great. You should play it but it's not necessary to play the first one to enjoy the second one. You should just pick up second one if you want to jump right in.

Yea, that's pretty much what I'm referring to. Why have this whole loot whoring system if the Itemization is such shit and it's so unsatisfying getting new weapons/items because upgrades are so constant, dull and minor.

I kinda agree with him. its a good game but lacking something. Loot system absolutely suck in this game and they shouldnot went with borderlands. instead they should make it like shadow warrior but more bigger and larger.

so far from what i have played its definitely improved all over but loot system ruined it.

Very odd this young man praised the New Order which is almost entirely comprised of cutscenes and terrible, not even of this gen graphics and Doom, who's models aren't great either, arguably worse than Shadow Warrior 2's.

Yes I agree. And just like you I mostly agree with his videos but of course at the end of the day these are just opinions (and sometimes also hypocrisy as you said), so I disagree with his some of the reviews including Soldier of Fortune 2 and other stuff.

Its more like borderland than any other old school shooter. come on. yes its borderland if borderland was good game but in the end it is like borderland, a loot system, cant die instead loss your money and ammo. money system in FPS suck. come on its not GTA.

Its pretty good game. but i prefer the structure of shadow warrior 2013 more. its 2 step forward and one step backward.

if Doom is 10/10. Shadow warrior 2 is just 8/10. its not even a rival to Doom that i expect let alone surpass it lol.

also there is no human character model in Doom. Doom guy never shown and others and one guy is robot, other is AI.

I cant believe he rate SOF2 bad.. it was one of the best FPS of its time.

sadly we didnot have SOF3. yes there was another spin off game which failed. Raven software were a great talent destroy by activision because they forced to work on COD.

Shadow Warrior 2 might have surpassed DOOM 2016 as my favorite SP FPS this gen. It's tough to choose between them but I feel like I'll be replaying SW2 even more than DOOM. That and I like Wang.

I played SW reboot and man it was just boring. This looks even worse. There's no chance that it's even close to the frantic, awesome action in DOOM. That said, at least it's not asking full price, and it's sure to be priced even lower soon.

I've so many great memories of Soldier of Fortune 2. Recently I watched some of the videos on youtube and the game still looks fun. I will revisit that game someday.

5 hours I have played and EVERY mission feel exact same in shadow warrior 2. I hope it get better otherwise its not going to be very good.

Why the hack they turn it into freaking Borderland. everything remind me of borderland. border warrior 2? seriously?

Tip: Don't go with this mindset; "No Way I am Going To Like This More than Doom. Doom is Teh Best". Enjoy the game for what it is.

its not about Doom my friend. im comparing it to shadow warrior 1 and this game remind me more of borderlands. loot system is very out of the pace and shadow warrior has chapter system. this is like far cry/borderlands where you go to point A to take a job/mission, complete, collect your reward.

I was fighting a boss. boss health was on very last. then i die. i lost my money but boss health remain same and i beat him then. WTF?? this is F***ng Old School!???

Im enjoying it thinking its good borderland game. but not old school FPS.

So since this sequel is like Borderlands, will the next sequel be a survival game? :P

Kinda sad to see it go the more RPG route. I think DOOM showed that a modern classic FPS can still be fun today even if it did have upgrades in it, it was very lite compared to SW2.

RPG elements never work in these type of FPS. it only work in immersive sim like Stalker and Deus Ex. flying wild hog drop the ball on this one.

So I just beat this game. and heres what i think of it.

pros

• combat improved upon previous game
• lo wang is pretty funny and badass. (however he potray much better in SW 2013)
• Its heavily optimize and run great on any system
• no drm
• Excellent Meelee

cons

• Too shot
• Too easy even on harder difficulty
• Borderlands loot system ruined the experience
• Lo wang and kamiko has no where near chemistry like lo wang and hoji
• terrible level design and all missions feel exact same
• still weak gunplay
• shitty story and characters
• bad graphics and character models (worst i have ever seen)

All in all. its Alright game. not bad but not great either

I rate it 6.5/10. when i played it first. my rating was 8 but slowly decrease more i play more.

not even a Rival of Doom. maybe space hulk deathwing will be real rival of Doom. but i doubt. I prefer shadow warrior 2013. its one step forward, two step backward. shadow warrior 2013 was great game apart from terrible boss fights and shadow realm levels.

Pretty much what I gathered from all the previews. My main concern was all the procedural generation which makes shit boring and repetitive. I also don't care for too much loot as I find it distracting and a bit of a chore. I was not too impressed with SW 2013 either as they half-assed the level design. DOOM destroys both SW games.

DOOM is FAR from a masterpiece LOL

Anyone else having problems doing co-op? A friend of mine in the lower Eastern states can't join us in the upper Central states. It won't let him join at all or will let him join then kick him 30 minutes later.

Also, some severe framerate issues on the joining person during MP. Not sure if it's tied to internet connection or what. Can pull 100 fps when doing single player or when I'm the host, but joining my friend's game sometimes yields unplayable framerates down in the lower 10s. It doesn't happen all the time, and seems to appear and disappear with certain enemies.
