Shakedown Hawaii is 2D GTA but BETTER

Clocked in about 8 hours in Shakedown last night and I am absolutely hooked. This makes Retro City Rampage look like a tech demo. If you enjoyed the old 2D GTA titles 1, 2, or Chinatown Wars then you really gotta check this out. I LOVED 2 and Chinatown but Shakedown surpasses them in every way I could have thought of. It’s on pretty much every platform including the Vita.

game not coming out here till May 7 but i will get it for Vita with Va-11 ha-11-a or whatever that bar game is.

Was planning on picking it up until Epic store.

Runs great on the Switch. For you Vita fans I would suggest getting the physical version. It’s probably gonna be worth lots of money someday. I was originally gonna do the pc version til I found out it was epic store only and said screw it and got it on Switch. Epic isn’t getting my money.

I'll definitely pick it up on Switch eventually... maybe wait for a sale. But looks awesome.

@vaidream45: is this out on the switch? I am moving and my vita and 3ds are all packed up. i don't want this game on ps4, and would love it on switch.

@Midnightshade29: yes. Came out two days ago on Switch. That’s the version I’m playing and it’s perfect. Don’t miss out on this one. I’m having tons of fun with it and I really didn’t enjoy Retro City Rampage.

GTA 1 & 2 are actually my favourites and I love Chinatown Wars as well.

A 2D open world game is actually refreshing these days.

How are the controls? How are the visuals on the tiny screen? :)

Huge fan of GTA1, GTA2 and Chinatown Wars. Played Retro City Rampage and thought it was pretty fun, but got bored of it quickly. This one looks much better, and I'll probably pick it up on Switch.

I’m seriously hooked on this. Just clocked in another 4 hours or so. The pacing never slows down! Non stop missions lol. I’m so friggin impressed what they did here. Also the comedy never stops. Just wait til you need a printer. That part had me laughing my ass off. Lol.

should i get this on ps vita/ps4 or switch?

@ProtossRushX: I like it kn Switch because I have the option to play handheld or on the tv. Was gonna buy on pc then didn’t because Epic store only. I’m actually really glad I got it on Switch because this is a great handheld game as well as tv game. Can’t really go wrong whatever you choose. It’s a great game.

The controls are just fine when on foot, but when driving a vehicle in this top-down view it takes some getting used too.. well for me anyways - i'm sure its not a problem for many other people.

the visuals look great on the Vita's small screen. i always prefer playing 8bit/16bit games on the Vita due to its smaller form factor (it can actually fit in my pocket if i want to take it out with me, unlike the switch).

you have that option on the Vita/PS4 aswell with cross-buy/cross-save...

@FinalFighters: true. If you own both ps4 and vita that would be a good option. I don’t have a Vita so Switch is a better option for me. I don’t care what console you play it on. I just highly recommend this game.

Bought it day 1... Lots of fun! Instantly reminds me of classic gta, and modern gta!

@robert_sparkes: Playstation Europe decided not to release this. I'm from Belgium and I can't play it either.

It should be releasing next week though :)

Video games and GTA never had a relationship as far as I'm concerned....

It was just an early version of those things on the internet now we where it's like a flash game and you just torture a mannequin or something just not approproiate as far as I'm concerened.

It was ap part of an era when that was normalized in kind of ho oh you know this is sorta HOllywood/Italian something or other..

And it's like well, no, no, it's not, and all this sucked so no more.

They finally did it!

Playstation Europe managed to get their head out of their ass and released the game.

Retro City Rampage was fun, story wise, but gameplay wise everything wasn't quite polished. Nice to know this may not have those problems.

Just noticed that will definitely pick up. Heard good things.

Will be getting this plus the Castlevania compilation. The AAA titles out recently have been uninspired.

What are you trying to say? Don't tell me you find GTA "problematic" (uggh hate that term). Anyway gta is an exaggerated take on urban street life and it has some basis in reality, just ramped up. Sure there is Hollywood influence but guess what that stuff comes from real life (or at least used to before people got too sensitive over outraged). People like games to do things they would never do in real life. It's a fantasy. I don't want games to represent the real world 100% that would be boring. There is nothing wrong with GTA. You can not like the game but, that doesn't mean its bad. They are fun games.

Yeah I'm giving it an 8. It's really light. It's funny, it's fast. There is some repetition to it all, but it's just an overall positive package. I would recommend it on the Switch/Vita specifically. It does lend itself to short burst play sessions and I'd say it's an ideal summer vacation game.

Yeah GTA .... GTA was like Video game s acchilles almost had just nof future and went on long anyway.

This game is really fun. The driving feels great, the shooting has a cool lock-on feature and that goomba-stomp mechanic is a game changer.

There are some things that I miss though, like ambient sound in the levels. The game always has music playing, that music is of excellent quality, but it never gives moments of sound with no music playing.

Great pick-up-and-play kind of game.

Anyone looking to get this game on PC: it's only 10 bucks/euro at the moment. As long as you don't mind purchasing from the Epic store.

Shakedown is truly a game that gets better and better. The missions feel short at first, the mechanics need some getting used to. But then you are a few hours in and you can not put this game down anymore. You just want to keep playing.

@R4gn4r0k: yeah I got so hooked that I beat the story mode in 3 days of long play sessions lol. Gotta check out the other modes next but damn was that a fun as hell couple of days! : )

The story mode is fun, but especially the shakedowns and arcade challenges have some really old school feeling gameplay.

I'm basically playing Shakedown every single day now, because it's so easy to pick, and so hard to put down :D

Shakedown Hawaii on the Playstation Vita just seems like it has everything about it being wrong.

For starters really doesn't roll off the tongue.

At 20 bucks it's an absolute steal imho.

@vaidream45: The second one is much better imo. I didn't like the first one... the controls felt abit clunky & restrictive to me. But I'm loving 2 :)
