New IPS:
Disaster, Battalion Wars, Strikers, Animal Crossing.
Nintendo doesnt always rely on 'old' IP's.
To your point about sheep saying that the new way of playing old games is better has two sides. At times it works well (Resident Evil 4), and at times it works out to be worse (Prince of persia: Rival swords) - it really depends on how the developer makes the game.
As to your point about a new franchise that has 'popularity and staying power' - both Animal crossing and strikers have that.
Not everyone can enjoy the Wii - and everyone has their own individual gaming tastes. Im sorry that the N64 and GC didnt fulfill your needs, but they were both good consoles to me, and to many others.
No ones making you support it by the way.
Nice crystal ball, may I see it?Duckman5
Well, What's stoping them from doing it for another 25 years? Yes, Mariois that old btw.
In 25 years, we would all be enslaved by Wal-Mart and be forced to work as Wal-Mart employees to pay for everything.blizzvalve
I thought everyone knew that but apparently they didn't...
the N64 didn't have any exclusives you liked? You got burned? What about Ocarina of Time and Mario 64?justiceboy13OOT, Mario 64, Star Fox, Goldeneye, and MarioKart 64 (the best in the series by FAR) were pretty much the only games that I really liked. I'm sure there are one or two that I missed but for the most part, the only good games were the 1st party titles and when it came to the GC the same games (although somtimes worse) were more or less released. I waited how long for SMS, MK:DD, and wind waker?!?! After that, I vowed to never take Nintendo seriously again until they got their head straight.
Animal Crossing maybe but strikers has no where near the industry impact of those games I mentioned.New IPS:

you didnt say industry impact - you said popularity and staying power.
Animal crossing has both - 3 installments. One on the gamecube, one thats going STRONG on the DS, and one coming for the Wii which, will be a best seller - based on what we've seen from the DS.
Strikers is another game with staying power due to the online gameplay - and a sequal will definatly arrive.
Tell me one new Nintendo franchise in the last 5 years with the popularity and staying power of such franchises as DMC, Halo, GOW, GeOW, Forza and others. XanaduTheBanddoes wii sports count? because that probably blows all those out of the water but halo

can we all stop saying that its so unoriginal now let it go
This threads pretty ridiculous so I deemed my response appropriate.I thought it was a good thread. Something to think about. Will Nintendo continue to make Mario/Zelda/Pokemon games for the next 25 years? Is it a bad thing? Will it stagnate the industry? Some pondering thoughts.

How does the character within the game change the experience found within? That's a great question.
Nintendo has no trouble in making new ip's.
and just because you play games from different developers, doesn't mean you're not playing almost the exact same game over and over again:shooters or the ever boring rpg

1) as long as they sell well they will continue. to nintendos credit though, there mario and zelda games keep a consistently high level of quality (bar the odd exception like the latest mario party titles and the odd sports dud). as long as that remains true then ill continue to buy....100 games or not. also whos to say we wont be seeing halo 15 and MGS 20 in 25 years? would that be a bad thing if the games were also cosistently good? look at FF. thats as old as zelda and alot of people get excited for that series too.
2) is it a bad thing? nah.as long as the games keep their level of quality.
3) stagnation? well thats a little harder to call. possibly they might but publishers will pick up on it and then try something new simply because they have to. eventually people will stop buying if they get bored of the same old same old.

You said almost everything I was thinking.
How about for new IP's... Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Advance/Batalion Wars, Warioware, etc. All quality franchises (and all of them from Nintendo, there are more counting 3rd parties).
Also, Nintendo may be using old characters, but the games are constantly changing... Metriod wasn't Prime till gamecube, Mario Sunshine may play like SM64 but that was only 1 gen old at that point... same with FZero and Zelda.
You see, you're only looking at this from a very narrow perspective.
As for gaming changing... did you think gaming was better with Dpads? or on Cartridges? or in 2D? Offline? Gaming changes, accept it.

super smash brothers. easily.
That's older than 5 years... but i noticed he's asking specifically for Nintendo... not new franchises that are exclusive to nintendo systems, which isn't fair since GeOW and DMC are up there. Also, MS hasn't been in console gaming for more than 6 years, so again that's not exactly fair.
Dude, you spend more time here hating onNintendo and its fansthan you do praising yourpreferred system.
The Wii isn't going anywhere. Get over it and move on.
Still excited about Mario and zelda, afterall, they and their grandkids grew up playing the same game (just on different systems  ). In all serisouness though, they still will be playing on hardware that while cool on some levels always seems to be just weird enough to alienate those of us who like gaming the way it was. Isn't that ironic. There seems to be two camps of people: one side claiming that their new way of playing old games is better; and the other claiming that their old way of playing new games is better. Food for thought? And yes Nitnento is resting on its tried and true IPs. Tell me one new Nintendo franchise in the last 5 years with the popularity and staying power of such franchises as DMC, Halo, GOW, GeOW, Forza and others. The Wii is the 1st Nintendo system that I have vowed not to buy without a good reason. The 64 burned me good and GC was aweful to say the least. Do you think I like MS and Sony as companies. Do you think that I would rather suport them than Ninty. No, I grew up on Mario (I beat Super C, SMB1, 2, and 3, in the last two days just for nostalgia) but I hate th direction they are taking themselves. I need a little growth for pete's sake. I honestly think that Nintndo just found that they couldn' compete in the market as it were, so they (successfully) found a spiritually watered down market that could attract as much people as possible (ala Holloywood). I'm not gonna support that. /rantXanaduTheBand
I'd rather have Nintendos 20 year old games then halo...

Oh snap, cell-phonage.alright, fine. then i revert back to my previous post.
Lol I'm sure that in 25 years there will be new Nintendo IPs that are hella popular. Who knows, maybe the upcoming Disaster Day of Crises could be the next big thing in Ninty. Batallion Wars online? That's golden.
I'm quite disappointed with the Wii in almost every conceivable way. Will I ever buy one? No. I would just rather concentrate on the hardcore games on 360 (and PC) and enjoy the easy pick up games on my DS.
However, 25 years from now, Nintendo's franchises will always....always have staying power....with each and every generation as they come. My nephews and nieces are all under 10....well after Nintendo's Golden Age....and they're all are experiencing Nintendo's flagship titles (I bought them 2 launch Wiis and a few DSes this past Christmas and birthdays) and they love them. Just the way I loved them 20 years earlier.

My thoughts exactly. People think Nintendo released the Wii for them and casuals. It was concidence lol. Nintendo needed to make a quick profit and they couldn't compete with Sony and Microsoft in the same market. They didn't have choice.
