Can someone please explain what freeloader is?Chutebox
Many games are region protected by Nintendo, meaning that games in Japan can only be played on Japanese Wii's, etc. Freeloader bypasses this built-in security and lets people play region-protected games on their console, despite where it may be made from. It's been popular with many European gamers to play US-region Super Smash Bros Brawl games on their European-region Wii's using this device.
Now that Nintendo patched it, they cannot do this anymore.
[QUOTE="Chutebox"]Wow, that sucks. Why would they bother with this, it's not like it's stealing or something?
I'm confused. I don't want to turn this into console war or anything, but is 360 region locked also? Just wondering.

I don't think so, at least.
Well, it's still a stupid thing to do if it's true. Nothing is worse than screwing over the people who give you money.

Only some games are region locked, but most are not.

No Nintendo are the dumb people. Do you seriously defend Nintendo with this? Nintendo is THE dev with some of the best games ever but they also make the fanbase hate them every now and then like this time. Nintendo has made some serious bad moves this gen and they should be questioned for the way MS should be questioned forthe RROD and Sony for the lies this gen.

i blame nintendo for being not able too release games worldwide in the same month but not to stop tools like the freeloader.
I find this to be very frustrating and pointless. What is the problem with importing games Nintendo seriously?Popadophalis
Simple answer? Nintendo are still price fixing in Europe, Wii games are constantly more expensive than 360 and even PS3 games over here. I tend to pay between £10 and usually a maximum of £20 for 360 games some of which are a matter of a few months old (with the exception of one game, mass effect because I got LE), where as Zelda TP is still £40 over here, WTF is that about? This is the reason I have not purchased a Wii game since the sublime Mario Galaxy, I am renting Wii games for the time being until they are priced fairly (going on last gen in the UK I may have a long wait, GC can still be found overpriced :|).
So let me get this straight: You're mad at Nintendo, because they decided to block a piece of software, specifically designed to circumvent a design feature that they put into their hardware, that you were aware was in there.
Yes, it would be nice if all systems were region free, and all games were released at the same time everywhere, but this is never going to happen. It's been clear from the start that the Wii was regionlocked, if some gamers chose to get around that, they knew it was possibly a short term solution. I don't feel sorry for them really.
I believe that a freeloader can also be used to load a burnt copy of a game, but I might be wrong on that. It's the same concept really as the Playstation 1 and 2 versions or the chips that are constantly being circulated.
Anyway, this is a moot point. The people who had freeloaders knew it would happen and had ample warning time. The cost of a new freeloader is only $30 and the updates only come about every 4 months. This isn't a huge price to pay for importing freedom.
Ownage denied...
Apart from marketing does Nintendo of Europe actually do anything?
Seriously, they delay everything (they make the release decisions im sure). Their customer service is virtually non existant and their website barely works well, let alone even that useful in the first place.
Some serious repositioning needs to happen in the NoE building.
Who cares? Brawl arrives this month, so I think the Freeloader isn't needed anymore.lancea34
So what about those who imported Brawl already?
Ok I'll normally defend Nintendo to the death. But this is completely and utterly ****ed. All the freeloader does is get around Nintendo's insane delays in releasing games. The games are still purchased legitimately, just in a different region. Ah Nintendo why must you make it so hard to love you!!!locopatho
foreign games are cheaper, they probably arent making as much money as they could if everyone bought PAL copies.

just dont update your wii !! is that really soooo hard ??
and if people are dumb enough why not just read what changed with that update ,course you have too except the terms too update !
Did anyone stop to think that perhaps the update broke it with out them knowing they broke it... Just saying it's possible they changed something that broke it inadverntenly. Companies aren't always out to get you.
They probly did stop it... but we don't know for sure.

You mean the people who are causing the NA version of the game to lag like hell?

I feel that they have the right to do this since they specifically made the Wii region locked in the first place. There had to be a reason for it. It wasn't a stupid move for them with this 3.3 business. It was a stupid move making it region locked in the first place.
There are a few reasons I can think of why region locking might be important to them though.
