Shenmue 1 & 2 HD might be an actual reality (Xbox One/PlayStation 4)

Just like the Bayonetta and VanquishPack we reported about earlier today, a possible Shenmue 1 & 2 Pack has possibly been leaked by multiple Eastern European retailers.

The package appeared on the site of the Czech retailer Alza (and its English version), and on those of the Slovak retailers Heureka, GetGame and MadGamer. All retailers list both a PS4 and a Xbox One as platforms for the release.

None of the sites provides additional information, but the similarity between their locations seems to indicate that a local distributor may have sent them information too early, or with an erroneous embargo.

Only GetGame has a generic “2017” release window. Heureka and GetGame list €49,99 as the price, while MadGamer lists €59.90, but those are very possibly placeholders.

At the moment Sega has not commented about the possible leak, so we should consider this a rumor until an official announcement is made. This kind of thing should always be considered with a hefty grain of salt, so do keep expectations in check until further notice.

Born from the mind of Yu Suzuki, Shenmue originally released in 1999 on Dreamcast, while Shenmue II launched in 2001 on the same console, and made the jump to the original Xbox in 2002.

Possible remasters have been rumored and teased for a while, and Suzuki-san himself is currently working independently from Sega on the third game of the series,aptly titledShenmue III, following a successful Kickstarter campaign.

I 100% believe it. Why wouldn't they do a couple quick/easy ports?

These games are 15+ years old. It is not too difficult to port them over and add 1080p. Throw in some trophies/achievements for riding a forklift for 8 hours a day LOL

New/young gamers will HATE Shenmue 3. Us older gamers will love it.

Good news anyways, 4 great blasts from the past

Well the thing about it too is it's a chance for Sega to bank on the games again while also segueing into Shenmue III which will no doubt help that game get off the ground better. For most people the reality is that to play Shenmue 1 & 2 they have to emulate it, that's just what it is, there's probably less than 3-4 million functioning Dreamcast's left in the world if even that and very few Xbox's as well not to mention even less copies of the game for Xbox.

This would expose three generations of gamers to games they've never actually had a chance to or been put into a position to play.

These remasters/ports were inevitable.

Long time Shenmue fans have seen this before and nothing comes of it. I won't be getting my hopes up or even getting excited about this until Sega comes out with an official announcement. Until then, if I get the itch, I'll play them on my Dreamcast.

Considering these games only have a historical tie to Xbox and Microsoft out of any console manufacturer still in business, I'm going to go with them releasing on Xbox makes sense more than anything else.

The PlayStation 4 remasters have largely been last generation games and were hardly what could be considered valuable upgrades in terms of the effort involved and the results of the final product.

People haven't attacked PlayStation 4 remasters because they are remasters, they've been attacked because they haven't justified their existences.

Spin? So you're telling me that The Last of Us Remastered, God of War III Remastered and the Uncharted Collection were competent efforts in terms of what was done in the face of something such as Halo 2 Anniversary?

What is being done with Shadow of the Colossus is impressive, what was done with the above was a last generation cash grab with minimal effort. If you can't even form a competent reply, don't bother.

A game that has its resolution increased and some minor tweaks here and there isn't a competent effort for a remaster, a game that has a complete graphics engine overhaul and every aspect of the image retouched is.

I'd buy an XB1 or PS4 to play one of these remasters while waiting for Shenmue III. Having said that, unless gameplay changes I don't think it'll catch on with current gamers.

Loved'em back in the day but I don't think they'll hold up too well today. I hope I'm wrong tho.

Sega hinted at Shenmue being the next SEGA game releasing on Steam a few years ago. Then they released Jet Set Radio and some other crap. I was hoping they would release Shenmue 1+2 before 3 so that the move data could transfer over.

I know I can still play them on PC using other methods but id like to have all three games in my Steam collection.

okami HD was hyped console exclusive but came to PC.

As someone who has never played either of the first 2 games, I would pick this up and probably be disappointed.

I'm an "older" gamer (in that I've been playing since well before Shenmue I and II) and that forklift stuff is still utter shit.

I don't know if there is any merit to this particular rumor, but I do believe we'll get them at some point. Until then, I eagerly await the day of playing Lucky Hit in HD.

@KBFloYd: Yeah, if these are released, I don't think PC will be left out. I think it's only showing consoles because generally PC doesn't do physical very often.

I also hope that Shenmue 3 does well enough to port it to Xbox for those fans as well as to complete the series with a 4th and final installment.

@jumpaction: I still have a dreamcast and the first one, a 360 and Shenmue 2 which is BC. But if they improve the controls it would be worthwhile Imo.

I think the games hold up well, but I was a huge fan since the first one released so maybe they wouldn't grab the attention of the fidget spinner crowd IDK. I was surprised to hear this rumor, not that I haven't expected their re-release but Shenmue II wasn't well received by the XBOX crowd so I'm confused to see that an XBone release is even considered. I'm sure it will do decently well on platforms that sell outside of the US though. Where's Switch version damnit?!?

@cainetao11: I still have my Xbox 360 so I could grab a copy of the original Xbox version of Shenmue 2 and play it but it would be really nice to have this collection in HD on a console that I currently have plugged in. :)

Oh I get you. Like I said, if they improve controls I'm a day one buyer.
