TBH I can't see how relevant Shenmue will be these days. The original iteration was enjoyable, part-due for it's technical accompishments and the spectacle that went with it. It'll need some considerable tweaking to stand up today, to the point it perhaps will hardly recognisable as a Shenmue game, IMO of course... If they really ramped up the arcades however, I'd probably give it a pop
What do you mean by "relevant" ? Fans of the series won't care about comparisons to current games, we just want to continue a long awaited journey that got put on hold many years ago.
What was originally a highly costly, spectacular realised world that people enjoyed for the whole experience is IMO fairy dull these days as I found out when I replayed it 12 months ago. Boring conversations punctuated with lots of 'hmmmm' and 'I see'. From a gameplay perspective its not intruiging or relevant or compelling, hence a 3rd iteration will only appeal to fans of the original alone and in many ways be regarded as an esoteric product by everyone else.
Now don't get me wrong, this is only my opinion, and from someone who enjoyed the DC original the first time round (and second to some degree on the xbox), I've just sullied the memory or Shenmue enough and personally I'd rather leave the series as it was, an unfinished intruiging moment in the life of the DC. That's all.
I could be wrong and it will be amazing, in which case I'll eat my words, but I'm an old cynic these days :/
