Whaddup! So, my classmate and I were having this argument on which game is better. Actually it started out like this: He asked me for my opinion, so I said Shift 2. He asked my why, and I said GT5 was an incomplete game and was simply disappointing. I said Shift 2 was more immersive and realistic. A few days later, he borrowed GT5 from a friend. Now he's been telling me how amazing it is. Then this argument happened.Tell me which game is better and why. Thanks Guys! :D

What I said:

Shift 2 is better because: DAMAGE, realism, advanced physics, immersion. To me, Shift 2 is a better racing experience.

What he said:

GT5 is better because: Its handling is better, 1000 cars (He doesn't care about the 800 non-premium cars sucking), Weather, Graphics. He claims GT5 is super-realistic even if Cars don't get damaged. He does not mind the fact that you unlock damage (which is a really stupid idea).

Shift 2 handling was like shopping trolleys with bricks in them to be quite frank it was a terrible approach and only made their current shift 1 handling model feel much worse. It was as if sometimes pushing the racing line would be the equivelant to driving on sheet ice.

The acceleration on some cars was off so much and works cars all handled like utter crap..some races became near to impossible due to its horrific handliing model.

Customisation was not fixed from shift 1 either still the same craptastic vinyl editor aswell which was a massive fault i had so it basically limited you to the liveries they made.

I could go on but god shift 2 was a dissapointment despite some nice things like being a good night racer yet this is omitted because of so many goddamn flaws with its handling.

Gran Turismo 5, although in my opinion a step down from earlier games in the series, is a much more fleshed out game than Shift 2.

Aside from some odd design decisions menu-wise, the carreer mode offers a very good structure and feels rewarding. Not being able to re-win and sell prize cars is a big minus though, and the driving physics in Gran Turismo 5 feels very sterile and stiff compared to many other racers.

Poor car models, the damage modelling would have been embarrassing five years ago, cockpits are poorly detailed, lack of AA, graphical glitches everywhere, career structure is terrible, multiplayer infrastructure needs work, they market it as some super realistic simulator when in reality it is far from it, terrain doesn't realistically change handling(driving on gravel in a snow storm shouldn't feel anything like driving on damp tarmac), lack of cars(1000 cars isn't impressive when you've got 22 Lancer Evos and 10 Honda S2000s and 80% of the cars aren't complete). I could go on. For as long as they worked on GT5, they really dropped th ball.

Strangely i find shift 2 worse :S stray from the racing line and punishment for pushing the car or overtake when its clear and open...yeah thats how racing should be.

The gravel on Bathurst is so easy to fly right over on Shift without rolling the car and the car just bounces about and its fairly stable again when it hits the tarmac :S yeah.....thats so much better than GT.

Shift 2 has a small car collection....but it penalizes you in what you choose by making it a grind worse than GT5 to earn money fro some cars :S

But Shift 2 doesn't try to pretend that that isn't what it is. It embraces it's arcadiness and shoves it down your throat. GT5 is too busy wearing a cardboard cutout of GTR2 to realize that it screws up on every aspect of what it's trying to be and ruins any fun you could have playing it.

Shift 2 is one of the worst racing games I've ever played. The handling is a mess, and the cars handle so unpredictable, it ruined the driving model. The AI are also fr too aggressive for a racing game and that's that. GT5 was a big disappointment for me and many others but even GT5 is 10X the game Shift 2 is.

Thing is Shift 2 rams it down your throat the WRONG way.

I thought it shoved it down my throat the RIGHT way.

I could not have made that sound more like a euphemism if I tried.

LOL

its just the handling was so watery and it felt unresponsive in a lot of ways especailly the cornering cars felt far far too slidey when you were accelerating out it felt wonky and unstable like a shopping trolley filled to the brim with bricks or a car with massive amounts of ballast in its boot.

At first when I played TDU2 I would gladly agree, but after a week or two I got used to the driving model and every car did handle differently. Also unlike shift 2 the cars were predictable and easy to manage. I loved cruising the island and would give TDU2 an 8.0/10.

I will admit i've toyed with buying it back just for the sheer feeling of cruising around but its not the same without some mates :( if i see it in HMV in Glasgow i might re-buy it...only going up there cause guitarguitar and the fact its the only place i can buy 110 guage bass strings that i can get to easily :(

I felt that way at first, but after about ten minutes of driving I got used to the way everything felt. It's pretty fun once you realize how they crafted the driving.

It's pretty cheap so go for it. I do miss the feeling of the first game where you felt connected to the road, but hey TDU2 does the job.

SHIFT 2 has so many things that are done well, but the most important one is driving, and it's awful. Shift 1 was fine as fine as handling goes, but Shift 2 managed to completely screw that up. Trust me.

Exactly. Shift 2 is even worse than Shift 1! Basically the only thing Shift 2 does "better" than the original are some superficial things like slightly more polished graphics, and adding nighttime driving.

Shift 1 might have been more fun than GT5 for 20 hours or so (even though GT5 was the deeper, and better game for the long run if you wanted to keep going). Shift 2 basically screwed up the Shift 1 formula rather than improve upon it - the car handling is the worst thing about it.
