Haven't seen anyone mention Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory yet, which is one of the best multiplayer games period.meggidoI played both halo CE and wolfenstein ET for quite some time.... Halo wins by a margin IMO.I take it that wolfenstein ET is quite old though, because it surely felt dated in comparison to Halo CE.
Oh, just checked it up, and wolfenstein ET is actually newer. I think I got used to the recharging health and easy melee and grenades too much in halo. Those things make the gameplay a lot more fluid and fun.

In terms of single player mode only, I didn't like the first HALO, I completed it the other day and its not a scratch on Halo 2 in terms of level design. They used a really cheap tactic in Halo 1 by replicating corridors like 6 times over in a level, every level was like fight your way through a long replicated level to get to the end in which you press a button on a console to open something or activate a scene, then you have to go through the torment of coming out of that level more or less the way you came in.
I can't believe edge gave it 10 out of 10 or people say Halo 1 is better than 2, the second is such a better design. I would have given Halo CE 7 out 10 and Halo 2 8.9 out of 10, in terms of single player.
While I also enjoy Halo 2, im not completely convinced of the series classic status but thats my opinion. I certainly don't think its very revolutionary. But it is a good game. Driving the Warthog is a lot of fun, but I didn't like controlling the arbiter and thought it could do with a larger asortment of non alien weopens. I really liked the handgun from Halo 1 though.
Yes I agree with you there.Halo 2 was defitnaly an improvement and better game over Halo CE - but for its time Halo CE was better.
Halo CE did have that woeful cut and paste level design, and shocking use of the same levels twice - not to mention some of the worst FPS level design (see the last few levels) in an FPS.
Halo CE's story and overall execution was better than Halo 2s though.
THe problem with Halo 2 was the story fell to pieces at the end, the characters sucked, the ending sucked, some missions were fantastic, while some where woeful, and there was an overusage of autoaim and weapon unbalancing in multiplayer.
Both arent perfect, and are great console shooters, but arent simply a good example of the 'perfect' or 'best' FPS. Even in the top 20 FPSs of all time Halo would probably just scrape in... Actually hell it wouldent cut it.
Another issue with Halo 2 was simply how after its step up from Halo CE, it simply was almost identical. There had been no real steps foward.
I mean when I played, and beat Half Life 2, I simply couldent get into Halo 2 - it was so far ahead of its time compared to H2, not to mention its still held up much better until this very day - I mean thats why its being re-released in the orange box.
I still cant beleive the offical (aussie) Xbox mag gave Halo 2 11/10. Most pathetic review ever. Why didnt they have four pages of ads. Man that magazine was a joke.
I have to say I haven't got round to those later levels of Halo 2 yet. But Halo CE's levels were long and drawn out and got frustrating. I also couldn't really be bothered to play the multi player in either games. I can't remember how far I got on Halo 2, but that was on the original Xbox (got itat UK release), I only just started again on the X360, im enjoying it so far.
I think what would improve the single player experience is if you could issue orders when you have other soldiers around you. I noticed the A.I. isn't too bad. But when your in the warthog or tank, the A.I. of other soldiers is a bit dumb. I expect Halo 3 could be really good in this area in terms of A.I.
The thing about Edge though, is its one of the most respected magazines in the industry and last time I read a review they weren't so easily impressed. Edge is different its very mutually, wellwritten. It used to be that when Edge gave a review score it superseded all others.

Above is a link to a BBC article on the greatest games ever top one hundred, I think voted by the public. while some was believable my problem with it was RE4 being at number 2 (erm its good, not nearly best game ever good) and here is the real joke Halo CE number 7, excuse me was someone trying to be funny, shouldn't even be in the top 50 its not that good. Remeber this is supposed to be the best games ever.

Yea I have Halo 2 (got it a month after launch) and its knowhere as good SP as those games. Story wise (even though it was executed so poorly) its better than Far Cry though. Sooo B-movie.
Same goes for Halo CE.
No matter how many times people try and bash halo, it is unsucessful. In the end everyone has to admit, if it wasn't for halo xbox would be useless and if it was not for h2, LIVE would not be the remotely close to what it is today in terms of popularity. Halo was an outsatanding shooter is every aspect. It is my favourite game of all time. How many times have yout heard 'halo killer'? That is a testament to the greatness of halo; setting a bar for all fps games to reach. So halo haters, say what you want about how much it sucks.elite_ferns1The word Halo killer was invented by Playstation fanboys who desperatly wanted an FPS to be one better than Halo. Killzone was supposed to do so.... Guerrialla really copped a beating beacuse of the cow hype.
How are people 'bashing halo' uncessful? I think Halo fanboys who praise it as the best FPS are even more unsucessful. Ever heard of constructive critism?
Its true that the Xbox would have flopped if it wasent for Halo though. Its that game only (and H2) that pulled through popularity and sales.
Never the less Halo is the best console FPS, and rose the console FPS bar, but PC FPS is in an entireley different leauge of its own.
MeI thought the only people who believed that Halo was the greatest FPS ever conceived, were Xbox owners. Are there acutally people who arn't Xbox owners that believe in that notion?
If there....please show yourself, now.

Xbox and Xbox 360 owner.
