What have we become? Why do people care if a game like Madworld is short? As long as the gameplay is good, then who cares. Two to three hours of great gameplay guarentee a purchase for me. Am I just too old-schooler or what? Metroid Prime and Super Metroid, you could beat them under two hours. Yet They're some of the best games I ever played if not the greatest.

If a game doesn't have at 30+ hours of boring, repetitious, filler content (like Far Cry 2) then I simply refuse to play it.

Sure, it's like eating horse ****, but at least I end up full, amirite?

I only care for how the experience is as a whole over the time period it takes to complete.

Hell, you could "complete" Morrowind and Oblivion in under 10 minutes and 30 minutes respectively if you knew what you were doing.

I don't want to pay full price on a game that doesn't have replay value. I'll buy a quality mini-game collection that I can pick up and play anytime friends come over; Not the short single-player, limited multiplayer no online "mature" title. The higher quality and more effort a developer puts into giving a game staying power, the more I'll shell out for them. Unfortunately Madworld doesn't hit the bar for me.

People disliked MadWorld's length mainly because, in addition to its short length, it had no replay value. Most gamers don't want to shell out $60 for a game that will last them 5 hours only.

Well you and me my friend are clearly different. Short singleplayer is why I skipped Call of Duty 4, Heavenly Sword, and a few others. If it isn't at least 10 hours long (the first time through), I want nothing to do with it.

theyre scared of them being two short cuz a 6 hr game isnt worth the money unless it has sweet online lol, but too many companies are cashing in on that theory, i love me a good long single player game, but i also love online

For me. it needs to be AT LEAST 8 hours long. It also NEEDS to have content that keeps me playing, such as more Gold Bolts to find and challenge mode(R&CF: ToD) and treasures to collect(Uncharted: Drake's Fortune). I prefer long games, but FFXII was a VERY long game, but I got bored after the first 20 hours or so. It just got repetitive. Also, some LONG games like MGS4(24 hours) lacked any content to keep me going, so I was done with that one for now. A great game, in my opinion, should be at least 15 hours, and have another difficulty or mode to play on. For single-player games, I will play on the next hardest difficulty setting or the next mode after beating the game(like Challenge mode or Hero Mode in Jak or Ratchet games), and for shooters, MULTI-PLAYER. Though only a few shooter campaigns, like RFOM(NOT R2, I'm done after 1 play-through) and Gears, are fun playing through more than once. A great game should also have extra content to collect(though unfortunately for R2, intel isn't fun to collect after awhile).

Paying for a short game is no problem for me. On the other hand, Madworld is just a shallower version of God Hand, and God Hand is much cheaper than Madworld, so why don't I just play God Hand?

$50 for a 5-6 hour game, that I may play through like what, 2 times? That's one of the main purposes for renting a game. Game Length is an important factor when buying a game for alot.

I really don't care how long a game is.... however, I do care if there is no replayability to the title. JRPG's for instance, I rarely ever play 1 more than once, so I want the experience to be 40+ hours.

RE5 can be beaten in less than 1.5 hours, yet it's replayability is very high. So therefore it's worth it for me. Starfox 64 only took 30 min to beat, but I played through it probably 100x or so, just trying to beat my score.

That's not how you put sigs in your post, there is an option in your profile...You can read some threads about the use of it in the "welcome newbies" board to TC: yeah it scares...my wallet at least.... and I coul beat FO2 in under 15 minutes if I wanted...speeds runs don't count, only the whole experience

Actually, I like long games. Like Chrono Cross, Legend Of Dragoon, and Tales Of Symphonia. So, I now I just have one rule for the length a video game should be: A. It must be longer in hours than I am tall in feet, so where talking like 6 hours and 10 minutes. If you're wondering WTF is up with my logic: 1 hour = 1 foot; 5 minutes = 1 inch

It's mainly about money value. Some people don't mind short games as long as it gives them a great experience, while others feel like they were cheated if they pay $50 or $60 for a game that has just a few hours of gameplay, no matter how good it is. Personally, I'm in the middle. If I buy a great but short game, I'll be disappointed about the value, but will be very glad I played the game.

Short games are fine... as long as they have replay value. And from what I hear... Madworld is not only incredibly short (Yahtzee says its 3 hours of game spread out over 7 hours) but has little to no replay value.

The concept of "replay value" is stupid. If you like a game a lot, you would play it again, wouldn't you? Regardless of length? And if you didn't like a game, no amount of unlockable content will make you want to replay the game. So even if Madworld is only "3 hours of game spread over 7 hours", if you really liked the game, that's not a problem.

Short games don't scare people, it's just that most people feel that spending $60 on a short game with no replay value is a waste of money. It's ultimately about getting you money's worth.

For instance, I forked over $180 for Rock Band 2 and I feel it's worth it because I knew I'd be playing it for months, if not years. On the other hand I won't even spend $20 on a greatest hits game like Splinter Cell Double Agent because it has zero replay value for me. I'd guess that anyone who has to earn their money and has bills to pay pretty much feels the same way.

Old school games are different because that's all we had back then. Now a days we have more selections and genres to choose from. Games like Mad World, Resident Evil 5, Gears of War 2, Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, etc are not worth $50 to $60 imo so I rent them, play them, beat them, and then return them and save hundreds of dollars that go to buy games that I think are worth a purchase.

I honestly dont care about game length anymore, I make enough to basically buy a new game the l cant honestly think of the last time I went damn what a short game that was a waste. People complain about Killzone 2 or COD4 only being 5 hours long but both games have very enjoyable Multiplayer in addition people act like they're gonna go through the SP without dieing once. Some parts in Killzone 2 and COD4 took me hours and will for most gamers too. I can think of tons of games that would be considered short and were amazing Paper Mario TYD - beat it in 35 hours , some could easily in 28-30 Kingdom Hearts 2 - beat it in 36 hours, some could do it probably 30 God of War - beat in 8 hours, heard it done in 3 Max Payne 2 - beat in 10 hours, can be done in 5 yet all gave me more enjoyment than Tales of Symphonia which took me 60 but the last 20 hours was really drawn out.

A 5 hour game that you can replay 10-15 times and still enjoy it as much after the 15th time as you did the 1st time is FAR better than a 50-60 hour game that just drags on for too long and uses a ton of bland filler... and you may not even be able to finish it once.

A good example of this for me would be Shadow of the Colossus and Persona 3: FES. I've played Shadow at least 15 times, each time taking only 4-5 hours, but I enjoyed every second of it. I got about 65 hours into FES and had to stop because it was just getting so tedious with the level grinding and incredibly repetitive dungeon crawling. Despite having a desire to see the story through to the end, I just didn't feel like doing the work to see it... and I doubt I will ever finish it. I'd rather play Shadow again.

If its a single player only game I want at least 10 hours from it, although in the case of Madworld its alright its only about 5 hours long because it does have more than just the single player and that 5 hour single player is highly replayable, more so than others. So in the end it all comes to down to length to me, or replayablity, but I would never buy a single player only, or single player as it's component (Madworld) game with only a 6 hour or so single player if its replayablity sucks.

Well some of us are not die hard FPS fans and don't care about the multi player aspect of those games. I can still enjoy a FPS or TPS SP campaing from time to time but rarely ever want to replay them so spending $60 + tax for some of those games would be ridiculous in my case and be a total waste of money.

short games like mirrors edge are bad imo, because i thought that game had limited replay value and frustrating trial and error gameplay. combine that with a short campaign and that makes the game not worth buying imo On the other hand, a game with a short main story like fallout 3 is way different because it offers so much more to keep you playing. side quests, a huge wasteland to explore, as well as excellent gameplay. stuff like that makes it worthwhile and fun to play, despite the short main quest

Yep. Contrary to popular opinion I enjoy old school JRPGs like Blue Dragon even though most might find the game boring.

[QUOTE="Sonic_on_crack"]I honestly dont care about game length anymore, I make enough to basically buy a new game the l cant honestly think of the last time I went damn what a short game that was a waste. People complain about Killzone 2 or COD4 only being 5 hours long but both games have very enjoyable Multiplayer in addition people act like they're gonna go through the SP without dieing once. Some parts in Killzone 2 and COD4 took me hours and will for most gamers too. I can think of tons of games that would be considered short and were amazing Paper Mario TYD - beat it in 35 hours , some could easily in 28-30 Kingdom Hearts 2 - beat it in 36 hours, some could do it probably 30 God of War - beat in 8 hours, heard it done in 3 Max Payne 2 - beat in 10 hours, can be done in 5 yet all gave me more enjoyment than Tales of Symphonia which took me 60 but the last 20 hours was really drawn out.Bigboi500

Well some of us are not die hard FPS fans and don't care about the multi player aspect of those games. I can still enjoy a FPS or TPS SP campaing from time to time but rarely ever want to replay them so spending $60 + tax for some of those games would be ridiculous in my case and be a total waste of money.

I'm sorry did you miss that I listed Kingdom Hearts 2, Paper Mario TYD and God of War . 2 RPG and an Action game. All would probably be considered short by most gamers. And yet the scores they got reflect the high quality of the games despite their length. Length means nothing if its not enjoyable. If a game is truly thriller and superb , a 6 hour SP shouldnt be a problem

A game that costs $59.99 that lasts like 4 hours and has little re playability for the average user is not good. no doubt some people will play it again on Hard mode, but not everyone will. Its a lot of money to spend on a short amount of entertainment, the value isn't there. Most games this gen are like this, lasting around 10 hours.

[QUOTE="Sonic_on_crack"][QUOTE="Bigboi500"]Old school games are different because that's all we had back then. Now a days we have more selections and genres to choose from. Games like Mad World, Resident Evil 5, Gears of War 2, Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, etc are not worth $50 to $60 imo so I rent them, play them, beat them, and then return them and save hundreds of dollars that go to buy games that I think are worth a purchase.

its not just boring , but the voice acting is bad, the story is bad, the characters are terribly generic and dull as holy hell . Especially the Pirate chick Zora I think her name is. Its like they made a Next Gen Dragon Quest, then took everything good about Dragon Quest out. If you actually want a good Throwback RPG as Blue Dragon tried to be, Just play Dragon Quest 8. Spent 30 hours in Blue Dragon ... God what a waste.

Nope. My post was in response to your bit about shooters only and how they relate to me personally.

Well that's nice for you, but I enjoy it and disagree with your opinions about Blue Dragon. I also own DQVIII and love it, it's my favorite PS2 game.

short games like mirrors edge are bad imo, because i thought that game had limited replay value and frustrating trial and error gameplay. combine that with a short campaign and that makes the game not worth buying imo On the other hand, a game with a short main story like fallout 3 is way different because it offers so much more to keep you playing. side quests, a huge wasteland to explore, as well as excellent gameplay. stuff like that makes it worthwhile and fun to play, despite the short main questDoolz2024

Odd. I found my first play-through of ME to be worth te $67 I spent... and all the replays I did were just icing on the cake.

I only paid $29.99 for ME and when I try to play it I fall asleep. Hopefully one day I can finally get back into it before the sequel arrives.
