What have we become? Why do people care if a game like Madworld is short? As long as the gameplay is good, then who cares. Two to three hours of great gameplay guarentee a purchase for me. Am I just too old-schooler or what? Metroid Prime and Super Metroid, you could beat them under two hours. Yet They're some of the best games I ever played if not the greatest.

Its because you don't want to waste $50 bucks for 3 hours of entretainment. Heavenly sword had the same problem. Awsome and beautiful game but it only lasted about 5 hours. However it was a really good game that blended cinematics with gameplay. Too bad the sequel was canceled.

Because games weren't always $60 :| and in the shape the world economies are in value matters. $50 for 3 hours of entertainment = fail to most people.

It's all about value.

Variation is also a big factor.

MadWorld don't have much variation in gameplay. It's 5h long and you do the same thing over and over and over again.

I don't know about everyone else, but i don't justify buying a game just because of the gameplay. Yes that sounds weird. But i have a limited budget for gaming, i can't buy every game in the world, and i wouldn't mind buying a long game, even though it doesn't have the same awesome gameplay. Lets say, hypothetically, that inFamous is a longer game than Prototype, and from everything we have seen they both seem to be pretty fun (gameplay), if we were to change the gameplay of Prototype to be better, it doesn't change the fact that i might still buy inFamous. It has, to me, great looking gameplay and, hypothetically, its a longer game. So more value for my purchase. And even developers agree, i dont know if its all of them, but Warhawk wasn't the normal retail price even though it only had an online portion to the game. Same, i think, went for SOCOM.

People disliked MadWorld's length mainly because, in addition to its short length, it had no replay value. Most gamers don't want to shell out $60 for a game that will last them 5 hours only.

I think that's one of the key reasons it sold so poorly. People say it sold poorly because wii owners don't buy hardcore/original games but a lot of my friends (including me) didn't buy the game once we found out how short it was.

For a short game, replayability, and quality are huge factors, as is pricing. Which is why a game like Gears of COD4 trades this off with multiplayer (COD4 also has arcade mode). Personally length doesnt fuss me, as long as its done well, and works well. Compared to a game like Fallout 3 which had a horrid, short main quest, compared to other RPGs like The Witcher out there, that sport epic lengthy ones. If anything Fallout 3 should be more like Gothic 3 in that respect.

It's a value thing. Games are hardly cheap. I dont want to spend all that money for a weekend of entertainment.

Although I much prefer a longer game, I would rather take a short game packed with fun over a long game that is repetitive or boring. For example, I enjoyed Silent Hill 2,3 and Portal a lot more than Oblivion with its thousand fetch-quests. Some games are fairly lengthy but get very repetitive after 4-5 hours. If the level design stays the same throughout the game and there are no variations of gameplay (when you feel you've been doing the same thing for hours and you can tell it's not gonna get better) and no interesting story to keep it going, it can get pretty boring. On the other hand, I think waiting for a price drop is smart if you buy a game that is short.

Madworld length 5 hours?? you have no idea,is thatwhat you've read in reviews XD

i have completed it in normal and hard mode and it tokes me about 10-11 hours to complete both, also hard mode is a completely different game

normal = boring

hard mode = hell yes!!

its true that the game is short, but BTW you have to spend 3 or 4 for hours to unlock the best part of the game so at least it have a replay value

the game worth it, thats all

Umm even old school games lasted longer then that and the only thing which should last 2-3 hours is a movie and that you pay muuuuuch less for then a game.

I don't really consider the length of a game. I just find it to be an arbitrary number. A game I enjoy will be replayed. Foxhound brought up SotC and that's also a great example for me. I've played through it about 8 times in total. The first time took 10 hours and most other runs are 4-5 hours. So that's about 38 hours right there. It's not a long game, but I love it to death. I think it's a mistake for gamers to only buy games with a certain length on the first play through- it's just going to encourage filler.

I Like short games, they dont overstay there welcome and make the campaign some grindfest just to finish it, on the other hand i dont want the SP to be 2 hours long, but i dont want it to be 50 eather.

Sometimes i wonder how the hell people can put 50+ hours into the singleplayer campaign of some games.
