Should games be counted as 'NEW' if it has been taken out of the box?

Alot of complaints have happend with this, here is somthing that has happened to me...

I went into my local EB Games store and asked for a copy of Halo 3 i ask them for the game, there is CLEARLY a bunch of copies SEALED on the shelf behind them but no they went through there draw thing and pulled out the disc and manually and didnt even worry about figerprints they just picked it up checked it in the cover with the manual and said 'here you go' i payed full price for a game that had been tossed carlessy into the cover and was not sealed.

How can they justify this? and yes for anyone asking, I am really picky.

It's not a big deal, if the game is new, they have to gut games to put them on the floor, how else would people look thru the sections?

As far as your situation, if you asked or go back and ask for a sealed one, they will give you one no problem.

Other retailers seem to manage.

Some even skip on the glass, like Best Buy, and they seem to be fine.

If the content is used, then it's used. Simple as that.

Not every store has the ability to store sealed copies.

The best thing you can do is to check for scratches and other stuff before buying.

True, but other retailers don't have as large as a selection either.
Glass is out, that system doesn't work when dealing with so many games, but Best Buy's system would work, as long as Gamestop is willing to get rid of half or more of their games.

I don't even like Gamestop, but I understand the business side ofit.

when i worked i retail we had to 'dummy' games that when out on the shelf. (open them and shrink wrap the disk and instruction) otherwise the smackheads would steal them.

Just have a Gamestop employee pat down each customer at the door.

Or make customers get completely naked before entering the store so there's no place to hide stolen goods.

When I buy a game I want to be the one who tears it open ..... sorta like christmas.:D

I am hoping we get more digital distribution for console games, no worries about discs being damaged.

Unless the copy was sealed before they opened and showed the contents to you, then it doesn't count as new . To me at least... if my opinion counts for anything.:(

It's till new because you haven't bought it yet.

It's just like a car is still new even if you test drive it first. It's when you have signed the papers and turne the key for the first time that it's considered used.

I agree with those post... when i buy a new game I want to be the first to open and unwrap it since it left the production line. Gives you that extra feeling that someone handing you an already open product. New or not I'd ask to be given the one behind the glass and be on my way, if not I'll go purchase the game somewhere else.

Exactly! I been a gamer since the NES days and all the games from their till now have been shrinked wrapped and unopended and should stay that way... which is why I don't agree with the whole "digial game" generation people are talking about. It takes away from the whole collection building pride of a gamer.

why do companies not send a few empty cases to stores, so they can but them on display, and then they can sell just unsealed copies. I have never had a unsealed game given to me, but i do mostly buy from online shops.Mckenna1845

And as for stealing, does GameStop believe the Sensormatic they install at the front door won't work? If so, perhaps they could save money by having them taken down if they think it's worthless.

lol, sad but true... you could walk in there literally open a new game that you just bought in front of them and they'd buy it back from you at 5% the original price and then probably sell it as new to the next customer.

That happened to me in Gamestop with Little Big Planet I just gave the game back and demanded my money back bought a real sealed version at an unknown game shop.

If it's for security reasons, and there's no damage/marks on the disc at all, then I guess that I don't particularly mind if the case is sealed or not.

Then again, I usually buy games via digital distribution, or at cheaper local stores which (coincidentally) only sell sealed games, so it's never been an issue with me.

Also, I'd only consider it to be 'New' if it hasn't been played - the way the store packages the games means little to me.

I remember back in the day when you could trade in games and have enough to actually pay most of the new one off... now you could trade in like 5 games and not cover the taxes... sure I may be exaggerating * a little *.

Security my ass. The EBs near me don't gut all of their games, just PC games.
