Aside from attempted trolling lol, this is actually a good question. Valve have some tough questions to answer if they want to pursue Half-Life. That style of storytelling could look dated against some modern games like Last of Us, which are heavy on cutscenes and do it very well.
No. Half-Life is Half-Life. Why would you turn it into something we have an abundance of? Especially a game that people obviously enjoyed the way it was. Half-Life is a different style of shooter than the "modern" shooters you're referring to. Changing it to a "modern" style would be taking away what makes Half-Life.
I'll take health regen at least.
I really hope that doesn't happen.
IF Half-Life 3 is ever made, it should be whatever Valve wants it to be. As vague and noncommittal as that is, Valve has demonstrated they know what they are doing - especially with their flagship series.
I'd much rather see Left 4 dead 3. Couldn't care less about half life, left 4 dead is one of the very few fps games that i've had a lot of fun with.
It will be Half-Life. It will stand alone in that regard as that franchise always has, while being modernized where it needs to be.
Valve knows what they're doing. Let them do what they do.

But cutscenes are older than scripted story-telling. Halflife is renowned in the first place for popularizing the idea that you don't require cutscenes that take you out of the game.
Son, as someone with a Thief avatar, I'm very disappointment you would say something like this. It shows a lack of knowledge in the field of playing video games as a profession.
lol regening HP, like every motha fucka is wolverine out there
would wolverine gag from smelling you a mile away?
I wouldn't mind if Gordon Freeman was to chase terrorists and disarm nuclear weapons. Imagine if you could get an AC130 every 10 kill in the campaign. That alone is worth buying the game for.
@trugs26: what is believable about instant health via a small package? Games can be tense with health regen, the tension is usually per scenario rather than punishing you from what scenario to the next.
My friend, I disagree entirely. If at any point you have played "stalker" or "sir you are being hunted", it's usually the opposite that is true. having someone bleed out and actively be forced to stop this deterioration while in conflict or requiring rest room in some form, creates tension.
For the most part, Health Regen simply encourages people to turtle up. It also helps eradicate the concept of exploration and reward.
In essence, it is a casual mechanic that dumbs games down. Even arcade titles back in the day such as Quake, incredibly fast paced, encourages exploration of the maps.
This, thing, this thing the young console people like, two weapons, health regen, it's not good mate. It's not good at all. It's bad, actually.

Because picking up a first aid box and suddenly your bullet wounds are all better is more realistic?
I hope they go a chronicles of Riddick or Halo route - a combination of health regen and packs is my favorite route.

I must have played another game because the last of us was nowhere near what i would call heavy on cut scenes. Maybe you haven't played or seen MGS4 to know what heavy on cut scenes is. Or played SNES/PS1 JRPG's.

Not literally believable, but the universe as a whole (e.g the same way a cartoon can be "believable" - in the immersive sense). Half-Life conveys tension, which I find is part of how the health is distributed in the game. Yes, games can be tense with regen, but not how Half-Life does it. Usually regen encourages "action"-tense games. Half-Life almost feels like a survival horror at times, and regen will take this survival horror feel out of the equation.

Could do it like how it was done in Reach. Health is broken into three segments and each segment can regenerate to its maximum but that only applies to each individual segment.
Health packs recover 100% however.
Yes, health regen, 2 weapon limit and corridor levels please.
Seriously, at this point I hardly care about Half Life anymore. It can turn into a COD clone and I wouldn't care.

Same system that Resistance 1 and MoH: Airborne had: I liked that. You aren't out of luck when you are low on health because it regenerates some back and you still have to explore the levels a bit for health packs.
I wouldn't touch it if it was turned into COD. They should keep it half life with the exception of maybe iron sites and maybe regenarating health. Maybe.
Valve is a company that sets the standards. They'll do their own thing and be successful at making the entire gaming industry follow their example. It's that simple son.

the most important thing is that gordon freeman continues to keep his mouth closed.
some crazy debate about health packs vs regen health. i imagine they will choose whatever is appropriate or perhaps even a new type of mechanic instead of health.
for example, when gordon wears the new hazard suit of half-life 3, it could render him invulnerable. pretty smart really because then they can take all the health calculations out which would boost graphics immensely.

I'm asking because TF, DOTA, CS and I think Portal were not made by Valve but only bought.

And thus, because apart of Valve. making it, Valve.
If there's ever a Half-Life 3, I have a feeling that it will feel modern without copying every shooter on the market like Tomb Raider did. It might have new sprinting mechanics, a new health system, etc, but I don't think it will or that it should go all the way. MP with kill streaks and RPG elements just isn't very Half-Life.
Valve should make whatever they want. That goes for every other developer out there, as well. No one ever made a truly great game by copying everyone else.
