Hey everyone,

so, recently, I have just lost my ps3 after 3 years of having it and not having any problems at all. My warranty gave up on me about 3 months ago and I contacted sony and they wouldn't bend the rules a bit, which blows! So now I am in a dilemma because I am a university student, going to class year round, and I don't have the cash to bust out 300 big ones for a new system. I know the repairs would cost from 150 to 250, this is what the person on the sony line told me and explained that I would probably be 250 or more.

So, this is the tricky part, Priar to my ps3, I had a 360 for about 11/2 years and it acquired the RROD, so I got it sent away and returned, only to get the RROD again after a month. So I traded in my 360 to get my ps3.

Both of these systems are blowing my mind on how much they break so easily.... I have a ps1 from the first launch back in 95 that still works and why don't these newer technologies work?

So, I am leaning on getting a xbox, but I would like to know if the RROD solution is fixed? because 199 is a lot better than 3 something, yah know.

Let me know what you guys and gals think... thanx!

An xbox costs more then 199, that's just the starter fee, if you've owned one you should know how the song goes. Imo the PS3 is the best console this gen by a fair margin.

Get a ps3. It's cheaper and better than the 360.

RROD is not fixed, as hardware failures in electronics are expected, no matter what that electronic equipment is. However it has been reduced considerably from what it was (newest chipsets haven't been out for a long enough period to draw a solid conclusion).

Whichever library you prefer, then that is the system for you.

Look at the Exclusives. keep in mind though that alot of times 360 still gets the better version of a Multiplatform game. Although, if you dont have the other console, youd wont notice any difference obviously.

you're not going to get a very balanced answer, this being cowspot and all. but id say 360. ive seen many people (the majority) that have both a ps3 and an xbox360 say they spend a lot more time on their 360. also ive had my xbox 360 almost 2 years and no rrod or any problems at all

If your worry is financial then go PS3, as you already have the games for it. The 360 Arcadeis only 199. That doesn't have a HDD. To get one with a HDD you'll be throwing out 299, same as a PS3. If you are the kind of guy that needs to play online, then you'll have to pay for that too. Financially, a PS3 makes sense for you.

If you have a gaming PC then get a PS3.

If you don't have a gaming PC then 360 blows the PS3 away

Personally I would recommend just sticking with PS3 because its cheaper in the long run (no shelling out $100 for necessary accessories etc) but what it really comes down to is...which console has your favorite exclusives? For me I like the diversity in Sony's exclusives but maybe you like top-notch shooters and ME or Fable. We can argue all day long about which consoles are more powerful or more reliable, but the only thing that matters is the games.

If you didnt break it intentionally/accidentally it would had been virtually unbreakable :P

I recall an article of someone having a tv fall on top of his snes, the tv died and the console is half broken aesthically, but still works.

I am more of a sony fan, but if this incident arises again, I don't want to dish out an extra 300 dollars everytime, and honestly, the customer service online and on the phone blew monkey balls! So, I don't want to waste my time again with that! yah know, where as the 360, were pretty good with the RROD situation and I got 2 new xbox's. So it pretty much comes down to the services they have with their company because I have had both systems.

get a 360 and you won't regret it, or wait for the E3 and then decide. sony's customer service is really bad.

The warranty extension for the ps3 is a high amount, when I got it, it was about 100 bucks extra for 3 years... that's it! My I-mac I just got before this situation came out to 1299, and the extra warranty for 5 years was 120 dollars.. I think somethings is wrong!

You sound like me, I have the worst luck with everything. I'd sell your old system on Ebay, probably get $80-100 for it and buy a new one. I don't like refurbs, if you do go the refurb route on your PS3 I'd also suggest getting a Squaretrade 3 year warranty which should run around $35. As far as the 360 is concerned, I'd lean more towards upgrading your PC if you want to play those games.

" EXCUSE ME "....The PS3 comes with a warranty but it's not the PS3's 3% failure rate that will force him to buy another PS3, it's the RROD 360's 70% failure rate that will force him to fix or replace it. The reason Microsoft fixes or replaces 360's under the warranty is because of that high failure rate in the first place.

360 failure rate 70% BS and TC look through both libraries of 360 and Ps3 to see which games you want and wait for E3

I own both console and it great to own them plus 360 is fine and so is ps3

They are fairly the same when it comes to games, other than some exclusives of course. Just check the exclusives and go from there.

I know for sure that the fee is set for sony so at around 160 so with tax at some places that still is only around 176 at most. This is cheaper than $300+ for a new system. Though I'm not too sure how reliable the refurbished units are once you get them back. Either way you will have to spend a lot more money buying a 360 since you already have games and accessories for your PS3. Now if it is library than that is solely your preference. Also, if you play solely or a lot online I can see where the 360 might be better but there is a fee attached to that and since you a college kid free might be the better choice. Since I don't really play online besides UC2 the PS3 would be my choice but really it depends on your interests.

PS3 ofcourse. You get more superior and more reliable console which has blue ray player, free online, built in wi-fi and 120 gig hard drive and unrestrected external USB drive access. Moreover, you'll get to play tons of great exclusive games like Uncharted 2, GOW3 and Demon Souls.
