Basically, I'm a hardcore fan of Fantasy RPG's, and I want to get another one for Christmas. I've already composed my Christmas Wish List (so don't bother advising something different from the two choices given), and I'm stuck between these two to finish it off. I'm afraid I'll never get by Dark Souls cuz of its difficulty, but I'm equally afraid that Dragon Dogma's overall quality and storyline isn't up to scratch. Help?

Im not going to say don't buy dragons dogma or anything, because I haven't played it

But you've gotta get Dark Souls. That game is just incredible. I was afraid of the difficulty as well.. while Some people complain that its too difficult, I think it is perfect. It forces you too be smart. Anytime I came across a boss that just seemed impossible initially, there was always some weakness you could exploit, or ryhtme to how they work that wasn't quite clear at first and onced you figured out how to overcome it things weren't that difficult. So its really only super hard if you don't have much patience. It is very intense and ultra rewarding.

hmm I would say I enjoyed Dark Souls compared to Dragon's Dogma but for different reasons. Both are good games though.

Dark Souls isn't really that hard if you're patient and act carefully. That said, the learning curve of that can be hard to master and some just won't enjoy that. The game only got a few true cheap moments so it's fair for the most part.

You won't experience that kind of learning curve for Dragon's Dogma. I actually find the game to be a bit too easy. The game is easier to get into and the combat is still pretty fun though quite different compared to Dark Souls. Not as refine imo but still fun. The story isn't really much either. The main appeal is just taking down big bosses and it's fun. Dark Souls will last you longer though. I just couldn't put as much time as I would've liked in DD since it gets pretty easy later on.

Just my two cents. Probably won't help much but I say get Dark Souls if you're willing to put the game to learn how the game works and other things.

Dragons Dogma easily, Dark Souls bloody sucks and is seriously over hyped IMO. According to DS fans here on GS, the reason I dont like it is because its too hard for me, its nothing to do with the game being annoying and repetetive or anything.

Coincidence. I was just thinking about getting rid of DD. I'm gonna use the store cred to buy DW6.

Well they are pretty much identical I think. If there is any noticiable difference it might be the controls, I heard some people had some issues with the 360 controls at some points, but thats what I played it on and they felt fine. So I would go with whatever console you prefer to play on or whatever controller feels more comfortable to you

The game runs pretty much exactly the same on both consoles.. I personally prefer the PS3 version because the controller just felt right. I did play Demon's Souls first though so that might be why. Either way you will be fine. Just pick the one with the controller you prefer. As you havent played Demon's Souls before im guessing you wont have any problems with any controller.. Enjoy! The game is fantastic.

Only played the demo of Dragon's Dogma, but Dark Souls is just too good to pass up. Then later down the road you can get DD.

No annoying pawns in Dark Souls, and a much, much more satisfying combat in Dark Souls too. But Dragon's Dogma is by no means a bad game though.

Dark Souls I've had the game since day one and I still haven't finished it. It's the only game I've played for the past year. I'm obsessed with the game. I'm 150 hours into it. I'm trying to upgrade all my weapons before I start new game because they carry over. I'm waiting till I start a new game before getting into the online aspect. I've played the online a little bit but not much.

If you get the game get the guide. Dark Souls isn't a easy game but it's not super hard or anything as long as you find the right upgrades. Theres tons of videos on youtube that helped me along the way. If you finish it you will have a PHD in gaming.

I have Dragons Dogma also but haven't played it yet. I'm too hooked on Dark Souls it's one of the best games I've played in years.

...You kill the same things over and over, traverse the same areas and die over and over. If thats not repetitive and annoying then what is it? ...Oh right, its the awesome Dark Souls gameplay!

Dragon's Dogma is a really good game, but definitely not as good as Dark Souls. Dark Souls is in the same big leagues as Skyrim, and DD is minor league. DD is a good game, but if you can only play one or the other, go with Dark Souls.

I had more fun in Dragon's Dogma. I beat Dark Souls and still don't know what the fuss is about...

All of these people heaping praise upon it...It was average, imo.

Its gameplay is rather dull when you actually think about it but the game is so expertly crafted. The huge connecting castle is very well laid out and designed and the game has enough lore in it for something like a trilogy. The lore just for that one game is so detailed and deep that you could make 3-4 games out of it and it's not thrown in your face all the time with constant cutscenes or anything like that. It's there for you to find and if you don't want to then you don't have to. It has a great atmosphere to it with a great soundtrack that only plays up in boss fights meaning that feeling of solidarity is greater cos you just have ambient noise.

These are some of the reasons I think it's terrific. It's such a well put together game with great level design, art style, enemy design etc.

I spend many hours of my day (damn near daily) reliving parts of Dark Souls in my imagination... It's like a song or a movie that I just cannot get out of my head, but truth is I'm perfectly content with that. Yes, IMO, it's that good. haha... Not sure what else I could post other than just get Dark Souls.

Dark Souls on PC with the graphical enhancement mods is truly a glorious thing. I usually play it with my Xbox 360 controller, but it's quite playable on a mouse and keyboard if you download the mouse fix and button icon replacements.

Yeah they completely transformed the game. The difference between what it is now and what it was at launch is night and day better. Maybe someday I will buy a PS3 and go back to play Demon's but because Dark Souls was the first souls game I played I doubt Demon's will have as big an impact on me as dark souls did. Same reason a lot of people prefer demon's over dark

Also your brain and the rest of your body is telling you to play Dark Souls, so if you are like that guy who had a fake heart and died 6 months later (liver disease, not because of the fake robot heart), then you can trust in your other body parts and their love of Dark Souls and I forgot where I was going with this, but the answer is Dark Souls.

[QUOTE="IAmNot_fun"]Give your hard-earned money to Crapcom, or actually get a good game with it. HMMMMM.

I get all the hate on Capcom, yes, but the game was good and was with the hard-earned money.

Dragon's Dogma felt like what Skyrim should've been. Basically do you want to travel with a party or go solo?

Didn't like Dark Souls at all, it pails in comparison to Demon's Souls. From what I have seen and heard of Dragon's Dogma I can't wait to pick it up. Looks like a much better game.

Does Dark Souls still have the LB/RB controls for shield/light attack on the 360? I had the game on PS3 (but ended up selling the PS3) and was going to get it for the 360 now, but the triggers and bumpers seemed switched around the wrong way and that was off-putting to me.

Im not a big fan of Dark Souls (way too over-hyped on here when it really isnt all that great, Demon's Souls was much better). I picked up Dragon's Dogma and havent been able to put it down though, have about 120 hours put into the game already across 3 play-throughs. I find the pawn system very unique, the story isnt mind-blowing but comes together quite well at the end, an there are quite a lot of things to do. If you want a challenge you could always play the games with a limited number of pawns or none at all. The game does suffer from really bad pop-in and slowdowns during checkpoint saving.

I played it this morning to get ready for the dlc tommorow and they still haven't changed it. That said I really don't have any problems with it, but I could see why someone would rather the triggers.

I have over 250 hours clocked into Dark Souls, I'm on NG+++ and still seeing new things and still acquiring rare loot. Buy it without hesitation it's just that good. Also, ignore the difficulty, if you like dark medieval fantasy this game is a must buy and you will forget all about how challenging the game is. Plus, the internet can help you past anything in the game though I advise against using help as the game is best when it's played without any help whatsoever.
