Well before you go out and buy a video card suggested by anyone here, you should be sure you know the type of slot your computer has for a video card ;)

Download EVEREST Free Edition here, install it and click on the motherboard tab and tell us the model of your motherboard. We can then look up what kind of graphics card your motherboard would support. :)

EDIT: Actually you can just tell us the model of your computer and we could look that up.

its a dell Dimension 8110, i has 2.80 ghz processor, 1 gb of Ram, a 128 mb vidoe card, and 160 gb hd

just save and get a new comp when u can, no point in trying to upgrade that, its already too old

Just checked, and it looks like you only have PCI slots :? That unfortuantly would require an entire new motherboard to get a new graphics card, which would also mean a new processor, new ram, and possibly a new powersupply if it was packed with an old one... you're probably better off getting a 360 unless you don't mind making quite a few upgrades.

if you have a decent pc, and it just needs some extra power, go for the video card. especially if you like rts like starcraft, and mmorpgs. pc really has the most variety, and the 360 will only last another 2 years or so, so video card would be better.

for me, i would get a 360, but just because my pc is, well, many years old.

Just because it has 512 MB's of RAM doesn't mean it's a good video card. Low-end video cards are often made with high amounts of RAM just to sucker people into thinking they are getting a good deal. Don't fall for it, because that is actually a very weak video card ;)

A 360. Most of the PC games are on the 360 and you can play exclusive 360 titles too.

the video card is a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 gs, its has 567 mhz core clock, shader model 4.0, DirectX 10 compatible, 900 mhz shader clock, its 64 bit interface, and a bunch of other things.nick31189

I'd say go with a X360, your graphic card is good enough for Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 since BLizzard always keep their games low requirement. Also they won't be out for quite a while.

X360 you can play Ninja Gaiden 2, Battlefield Bad Company, Fable 2, Gears 2, Castle Crashers, etc.

  • * Intel Celeron D 2.53GHz CPU
  • * 256MB RAM Memory
  • * 40GB IDE Hard Drive
  • * On-Board Video Card
  • * On-Board Sound Card
  • * On-Board NIC
  • * 4 External rear USB ports / 2 External Front USB ports
  • * CD-ROM Drive

That what I found about your PC, and if thats the case it wont work.

The cpu is weak and 1 gig of ram is a little low.

[QUOTE="BobHipJames"]No, you basically have to buy the box and then you get to stare at it while it sits in the corner and makes noise.robflores370

Kind of like he's going to do when he opens up that video card box eh? Except for the noise part of course. I didn't know the video card jumped out of the box and magically started playing games.

I never claimed the videocard was "no fuss."

That's the primary difference. The Xbox 360 is going to require a fair amount of junk if you hope to do anything with it.

Granted, given his situation he'd really be better off considering upgrading his entire PC or buying an Xbox 360. If it were a circumstance of slapping a video card into a preexisting PC, it would be hands down the better option.

Ouch, uhh ok then, if you really WANT gaming NOW, then go for a X360 or a PS3 or both.

Or you can wait and save up till 2009 when those good PC games are out and then buy a new PC, customed or prebuild, your choice.

Wow you really don't know what you are talking about do you? You probably don't even own a 360. You don't "require" anything to start playing. Let me make it simple for you kiddo, you buy the system (arcade, pro, or elite your choice) hook it up to your tv, insert game and start playing. Simple right? Everything else isn't "required" to start gaming. Considering the TC's knowledge of PC's since the beginning of this thread, the 360 is the way to go, this was obvious from the start considering the questions he was asking.

Insert game? Does it come from my thumb?

How does me do console? Now where to get console for? What console be to have me doing?

Thanks pops, for the advice and all, but I think I'm okay, seeing as I've cracked the big bad PC, the hobgoblin of system wars, so spooky and devilish that you have to be an antisocialite gremlin, a "hermit" to use one properly.

First of all, there are three models of Xbox 360, requiring a particular cable or adapter to hook up to your TV, HDTV, moniter, whatever. The other junk that comes in the box is basically easy plugs. But the Xbox Live sub card is essentially a must.

My only point is that it's not as simple as "walk into store, walk home, play." There isn't an "Xbox 360" Sku, to start with. There isn't one MSRP.

So I guess the video card is that simple huh?....You are really grasping for straws here. Like I said you probably don't even own a 360 because you clearly don't know what you are talking about.
