I know what you mean. i looked into it, then I realized the 40 gig isn't backwards compatible with ps2 games!!
The ps3 has good games, but then I looked at game for my 360, and i realized there was a lot of good stuff I would rather spend on that.
Man, in about a year, the ps3 to me will be worthwile, i thought about one too, then I did research, and I would get about 5 games for it. Thats pretty good, but most of those raren't online and also weren't game of teh year material

What a bummer! I wanted to buy all of the PS2 games I missed out on when I traded in my PS2 in '05. I guess I'll have to wait for Sony to release ANOTHER sku next year -_-
[QUOTE="Warp_2567"]depends
what kind of genre are you into?Choga
All kinds. Shooters and RPGs (JRPGs and WRPGs) mainly, then adventure and racing games. I also enjoy the occasional RTS.

I'm not paying $500 for a system.
You can't get a PC for $400 though. Can't even get one for $500. At least, not one that's any good. Even if you build your own computer, and salvage as much as you can from your old one, you're still looking at least $600 or so (this is assuming you're building a gaming rig, which if you're on GameSpot forums you probably are). For instance, a motherboard is already $100+. The best PS3 SKU so far is the $500 60GB one if you can find one. It is 100% backwards compatible, comes with everything else the 80GB version comes with, and doesn't come prepackaged with Motorstorm, which may or may not be good for you.
Personally, I'd suggest getting the 60GB one if at all. Otherwise, save up a few hundred more dollars, and pimp out your gaming computer with new processor, GPU, etc :).

Opalescent
Thats why I said I would either get the PS3 or save more money for the PC.
