If ME2 has multiplayer, i will destroy the OP's entire family. [QUOTE="JangoWuzHere"]

[QUOTE="EVOLV3"]

No. I want a 60+ hour RPG. Not a third-person shooter with multiplayer. They did enough to ruin the franchise already.

hurricaneMIKESW

All of the Mass Effect games clock in around 30-35 hours...

lmao what? ME2, even when I played on hard on my first playthrough, doing most everything, was about 16-18 hours. It is NOT a long game. Go back and check your game saves, bro. Game is incredible. But its not 30 hours. By a long shot. Unless you're clinically r-word.

I do not believe at all you finished the game in 16-18 hours. Everyone i've talked to has said it took them around 30 hours. It might take less if you don't do any of the loyalty missions or other things in the game. (but assume most people would do all of them). But I still couldn't see someone finishing it in 16-18 hours.

Could it have multiplayer?

Sure, as long as it's done right. Co-op could be fun if it works similarly to BG2, or evenPvP games if they are done well.

Should it have multiplayer?

Depends on if it will detract from the experience or not. Personally, I have faith in Bioware's abilities, since I love most of their games. I trust they will make the right choices when it comes to keeping or scrapping multiplayer.

"Should" as, it needs it? Not at all. The ME franchise has already proven twice that it's amazing as a single player experience.

A well-designed MP mode, that doesn't take ressources from BioWare or affects the SP (like a lot of shooters) could be something interesting.

In any case, what I want isanother great ME SP game, MP is completely secondary to me.

MP does not necessarily equal reuined SP. In MP-oriented franchises it's understandable that more focus is put into the MP, but in something like Mass Effect 2, it's not likely to happen, like it didn't with Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.

Bioware have made decent co-op modes for their RPGs in the past, and it would work well-ish in party-based RPGs like the Mass Effect series (it would have worked even better in Dragon Age, though - shame that they cut that out of the game)...but that's about the only way I can imagine multiplayer working in ME3.

mp does not necessarily mean a ruined sp but for the most part it does take away from the sp game as the dev need to give time and resources to the mp and so end up neglecting the sp, as for a co-op mode the entire game will have to be reworked so that their is less conversations (i know i wouldnt want to watch two guys talking for 20 mins) more action scenes and then the skills will have to gimped so that the game isnt too easy for 2-4 players

What single player franchise has in rencent time has suffered a quality loss because of the addition of MP? Those I can think of that added it -Brotherhood, Uncharted 2 even BioShock 2 (its criticism had nothing to do with its MP) - were unaffected.

well the story in both Brotherhood and bioshock 2 are lacking compared to the games that came before them (my opinion) , also uncharted2 as well as they other two games are very much action games wheras mass effect is meant to be an rpg (which generally do not have mp as it doesnt click with the genre)

Certainly not. I'd have no objection to a multiplayer-focused game set in the Mass Effect universe, but I don't want it in the main trilogy at all.

No it shouldn't. I wouldn't mind a FPS/TPS or even space combat spin-off set in the universe though; perhaps the first contact war or something.

No mass effect is meant to be played as a single player experience. Multiplayer is uneeded.

It doesn't need it and it's probably going to be an underdeveloped mess unless Bioware significant improves on the combat system. Given their current attitude to their games, however, which is basically "strip all the essential bits down and add unimportant new stuff half-assedly" I don't have high hopes for it.

Still, what's done is done and my opinion isn't going to affect their development process one bit.

If it could be implented well Co-op would be fun especially split-screen otherwise it is fine as is. Please Bioware don't make it into a GEOW clone.

Depends what kind of multiplayer they are talking about. If you are talking about some kind of MUD, hell yes. If you are talking about a Shooter, hell no. They better spend their time on better things.

I mentioned it before...

I am alright with multiplayer if it doesn't take away from my personal involvement of the main storyline. Which means, i complete the story my way, my party is mine, my stats are mine, my equipment is mine, my quests are mine.

What I wouldn't mind seeing is something similar to Fable 2 and Fable 3 in which everyone playing the game in the same region as you appears, and perhaps you are able to join up and participate in player driven quests that don't use your own party, and only perhaps benefit equipment junkies. But for the love of god, leave my story to me.

DarkLink77

Actually, all of Bioware's PC-exclusive RPGs had multiplayer long before they signed up with EA. Even Dragon Age was originally supposed to be multiplayer-focused, but they dropped that after it went multiplat, as far as I can tell.

Also, the multiplayer modes didn't hurt the Baldurs Gate series, which many consider to be Bioware's best games. So...I'd say that they can pull it off, as long as it's co-op and not deathmatch (or something silly like that).

I think you can differentiate between these types of games. games that innovate on story, cinematics, choices and consequences etc. And games that mainly innovate on gameplay. It doesn't mean games can't do both things but mass effect clearly has the former as its goal. And adding multiplayer would be just plain silly.

Am I the only one who thinks it would be fun to use the combat system (upgraded hopefully) could be fun for competetive multiplayer? You can choose from the six classes, each has their own abilities and without pausing the action when you switch weapons/use powers. Again, I think it could work. Much rather they focus on the single player alone.

He's actually right, finished mass effect in like 39h with only 2 sidequest missing and mass effect 2 in 36h with every sidequest + DLC done. Thats without skipping dialogue too.

I shouldn't have it, but I wouldn't mind it. In every series that gets a multiplayer it doesn't need, I seem to like it more than games that should. Bioshock 2, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, and Uncharted 2 are all great examples of this.
