Hello friends,

So next bioshock is pretty much coming next year. First Bioshock had one of the best and unique setting ie underwater rapture but it actually was pretty much water down System shock 2. it was ok but still not system shock 2. and infinite was among the worst AAA FPS ever made. and it made bioshock 1 feel like system shock 2.

Prey on other hand was true System shock 2 successor. it follow and capture the spirite perfectly and become deepest immersive sim of our time. to me Prey was real Bioshock game.

So it make me wonder if they made next Bioshock like prey to be good? they should take inspiration from Prey rather than previous games?

what you think? lets discuss

It should be more like Deathloop. Deathloop has better mechanics than Prey. You even said that.

It should be what makes sense for Bioshock. I know the franchise isn't everyone's favorite FPS series, but Bioshock is Bioshock, and a next installment should be what feels natural for the IP.

I suspect a next installment could delve deeper into the story lore and the alternate realities thing.

Considering that prey scores a 7 here and bioshock 3 got a ten, I think! I and one of them won several goty awards and other one bomber horrible, I wouldn’t think so…

Maybe the gameplay. Bioshock could be a bit more like Prey 2017 in that regard.

Just leave Prey 2017's robotic writing and paper-thin atmosphere. System Shock 2 and Bioshock already got Prey 2017 beat on those.

Why does a sequel to a series need to emulate a different series?

because prey is more hardcore and difficult for average journalist while bioshock 3 is casual walking in straight line.

Considering 2K wants it to sell "BioShock"-level numbers and not like "Prey," it's pretty obvious the answer is "no."

I think the trilogy has said all it needs to say.

Its clear that all the inspiration of the series went towards the first Bioshock game. Andrew Ryan was a brilliant character.

The next Bioshock game that Ken Levine worked on was Bioshock Infinite. Father Comstock by comparison was a very dull and uninteresting antagonist. The story took a huge nosedive - though the gameplay improved. Ken Levine said that he was utterly miserable and basically living in hell during the development of the third Bioshock. In short he wont be involved with with any more Bioshock games and it doesn't look like the series even needs any more sequels anyways.

I definitely like Prey more than I liked Bioshock but I don't want to fault Bioshock like it did something wrong. It was definitely ahead of the competition compared to other games of its time. For its time Bioshock was pretty awesome, not many games had the same level of narrative quality, art direction, production value, or bothered to be as polished. Though with Infinite I was less impressed. It mainly felt to me it was just reusing the same formula. Hopefully a new entry doesn't feel that way.

As far as direction went, I'd say where the two differ greatly is how Prey gives players much more freedom in exploration and character progression, whereas Bioshock was much more structured in its progression. It was like a Metroidvania FPS.

I don't think the next Bioshock has to be more like Prey. Give me a good story, good combat, and an interesting setting. Let Prey be Prey, hopefully Arkane makes another.

Complex level design? Of course. Prey level design with more weapons, upgrades and perks, would make Bioshock insanely good.

Speaking of Prey, did they ever fix the terrible audio? I remember trying to start it a year ago and I thought my surround system was broken.

Thinking about starting on it to clear some games in my backlog

I would be happy for it to be similar to the first Bioshock game. I was not the biggest fan of part 2 and 3.

Eh, I would prefer it to be more like Bioshock 1 and Infinite. Really enjoyed those two. I don’t think 2 was a bad game but honestly it just didn’t seem that memorable. I played through the game but I’ll be damned if I can recall anything about it.
