Should Sony just... give up?

Cause 1 console run wasint as good as the other they should give up? Man people sure are crazy. Thats like asking nintendo to give up after the cube or even 64.

peole do know that in 07 and 08 combined PS3 outsold 360 world wide right? the only reason 360 has a lead is becuase of that year headstart they haven't been able to pull away from the 360 at all and also here's an even better question why the hell to we care about sales so much? if a game sells bad does that make it bad? the wii is selling the most right now does anyone in their right mind thinks it the best console out there right now? 360 and PS3 have great gamess and in my book they're 1 and 2 and the wii isn't even in the same catagory with them

As much you would love to see Sony pack up and give up TC but it aint gonna happen. We are talking about Sony here, they will continue doing their best, PS3 is not about the short-term, Sony has always thought long-term with each of their systems and PS3 is no exception. The cost of manufacturing PS3 had recently gone down and keep in mind that Sony arem aking profit on each PSP and PS2 sold, this offsets any loss they maybe taking on the PS3.Swift_Boss_A

I agree with laghing at fanboys. Hell your the one who actually made a topic about LO looking better then FF13 even after pretty much the WHOLE bord laughed at you and told you were wrong. If its not a 360 exclusive 95% of the time you will bash it.

have all of you notice something lemmings get all excited at the reports of sales or npd and cows get excited at all the 2009 exclusives guess 360 owners just bought their system for the npd not for games.

uuuh no? Nintendo lost in sales vs PSone AND PS2 but did they sell themselves to SONY? NO! that is so ridiculous

Sega lost sales to the PS2, and they gave up. Plus, Sony does other things besides gaming. If their gaming division is sucking it up, they can sell it to microsoft for profit and stick to Television and Video Player sales.

Sega produced a console that did poorly in one market (Saturn - USA), then another that did poorly in the other (Dreamcast - Japan), then was faced with Gamecube and Xbox on the horizon. They also had a smattering of other failures like the gamegear.

Thats what caused them to have to walk out of the race.

being 2 yrs just in this generation, sony is far far away from giving up, i would consider giving up after 2 more yrs wz no progressing or at leasting lessening the gap between x360 and PS3.... wii is just out of compitition... but i think sooner or later wii will old due to its weak hardware, but till then it is no.1.

Well, i do not see Nintendo fanboys claiming each of Wii exclusives as the end of all gaming on earth, why would i laugh at them ?

true wii sports is kinda a bad example but it can also go in reverse games like shadow of the collossus and ico never sold all that well should they be considered bad games? if i remember transformer the game sold 1 million+ does that mean it's a good game. sales simply mean what was bought more not which is better

Totally agree. But I'll also point out that Sony's decision to drop out has little to do with whether their games are good or not - it's about how much money they're making.

Even if Sony gave up making consoles, why would they sell to microsoft? What would microsoft want the ps3 for? Sony would just drop it.

First off its only been 2 years. SONY has a 10 year plan for the PS3 and actually made a current gen consol unlike its competitors. And yes I believe SONY when they say they have a 10 year plan for the PS3 cuz look at the PS2 its still around. If anybody should give up its M$. They should just stick to software and let the companies who actually know how to built reliable hardware do their thing.

They have to do a nintendo-move, they've lost a lot of money on the ps3 and it's finally caught up to their entire Net Income, which is now posting a loss. Blu-ray adoption slowed down to a crawl thanks in part to rising prices, regardles of reason, that was the worst possible outcome for Sony after winning with blu-ray. The recession also slowed down HD sets adoption, and people are no longer willing to pay for the Sony brand fee during bad economic times. They could make quality hardware, sale it at a good price and try to deffirintiate themselves in some way like Nintendo did in order to win, they obviously can't compete with MS in terms of price and if they continue they will be in deep trouble, they already are.

From a business standpoint, yes they lost bad this gen. But that doesn't mean they can't recover to a degree. They still have time to be competitive, especially in future generations. In what world would it make sense to sell out to the competition?
